Received an email from Shopback this morning, sharing it with fellow bubble tea lovers.

Looks like it is an app only deal so I can't link to the page directly, check your app and you should be able to see the deal. It is in selected store only and you have to go in store. Please check the terms and conditions in the app to make sure your purchase is eligible

How to see eligible stores (Thanks @codeXD for the instructions):

  1. Open shopback app
  2. tap on 'In-store' from the top menu (there is a beta logo next to it)
  3. Keep scrolling down and there'll be a section "Explore restaurants near you"

The app will ask for location permission somewhere in-between those steps.

Cashback Instructions from the Ad:
1. link a credit card with Shopback
2. click boost button on the selected store
3. use the credit card to purchase the bubble tea

  • huh, targeted ?

    • New In-store customer only.

Another than that I don't see it being targeted. Should be in the in-store deals on the landing page.

  • Sydney only?

    • Yeah currently only available in Sydney where we have our AU office.
We've only had in-store live for a few months now.
Hopefully, over the next year or two we'll be able to expand our team to cover more of Aus :)

      • -2

That doesn't make sense unless you're saying your team are actually providing the free bubble tea in-store…

        • +11

Our office is based in Sydney, so our team can't exactly go into stores based in VIC/QLD/WA/NT/etc from our Sydney office.
The In-Store team has to physically go into these venues to pitch the offering & sign contracts.

          • @gotyourback: Oh wow, ok I guess that does make sense then - thanks for the info. Although I am surprised that things can't all be done online.

            • @Cliche Guevara: While most can be done online, a lot of people would simply ignore an email from a company they don't know much about.
So it's more efficient for our team to go in for a face-to-face.

Maybe once we have enough traction in Sydney, venues in other states will take notice and would be more willing to sign up online :)

  • Damn only in NSW/ACT.

    Nice deal though.

  • Sydney only!!!!!!!

  • +1

Sydney and Canberra only. Going to grab Coco.

  • How to see eligible stores:

    Open shopback app
tap on 'In-store' from the top menu (there is a beta logo next to it)
Keep scrolling down and there'll be a section "Explore restaurants near you"

The app will ask for location permission somewhere in-between those steps.

  • When does the deal expire?

    • +2

it says valid until 6th of December

  • -6

100% discount still not high enough to get me to drink bubble tea

    • +5

:( 0% discount is still enough for me to drink bubble tea

  • does cashback work in all different stores?

    • Only in selected stores, you can see the list in the app

  • +2

Terms say its only valid for credit card payments, be careful.

    • When I open the app it shows the last 4 digits of all my cards saying they’re eligible. Only 1 is a CC

  • Is this deal for credit cards only?

On the individual store T&C’s, it says otherwise:
    https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/217669/92716/077ce4a7-…

    • Says there that it's only valid for credit cards and Apple/Google/Samsung Pay. Debits are not going to be rewarded cashback.

      • @gotyourback, could you please address this? Thanks!

        • +1

Confirming with the team (I'm still learning all the fine details for In-Store).

    • +4

I've received confirmation from the team:

To be rewarded In-Store Cashback, ensure your Credit Card is linked to your ShopBack account.
You are then required to click the "Boost" button for the store you wish to make your purchase at.
Finally, pay with your Credit Card (there cannot be an EFTOPS logo on the physical card) or your Android/Apple device.
We cannot track transactions through EFTPOS, however if you use a Debit Card through your phone's wallet it will go through as Credit which can be tracked.

      • Thanks for the quick confirmation.

      • Great thanks GYB!

        • Wait so we cant use debit cards?

          • @TechnoHC: From above:

We cannot track transactions through EFTPOS, however if you use a Debit Card through your phone's wallet it will go through as Credit which can be tracked.

            • @ilovefullprice: Usually tap n go is also tracked as credit, regardless if it’s a credit or debit card. GYB’s comments say only to use apple or Google pay though…

              • @ATangk: The key word here is “Usually tap n..”.

Best to follow GYB’s comments to ensure you get the cashback.

                • @ilovefullprice: Whilst I say tracked, tap n go is always counted as a credit transaction. The only savings transaction is when you swipe or insert the card, as thats also how you have to do transactions to avoid card surcharges.

                  • @ATangk: Tried tap with ING card - no tracking, 3 days
Had friend try with Google Pay - no tracking, today
Both boosted a couple minutes prior to ordering at Coco with linked cards….
                    edit: change to store name

                    • @kaimyu: Tracked instantly with Westpac debit card via Applepay.

  • enjoy

  • They do a lot of instore offers and stuff now, similar to groupon.

  • Shopback in-store is still in Beta
I wasnt able to find any stores in Melboure at all

    • +1

Hey @littlesoldier, yeah we've only had in-store live for a few months now.
Hopefully over the next year or two we'll be able to expand our team to cover more of Aus :)

      • +6

no need. australia is only NSW

        • LOL

  • I also have a $5 "welcome bonus" on the app. @gotyourback Will this stack together to make $11 cashback?

    • +1

      Yet it will :)

      • +1

I am a new In-store customer and also saw the $5 welcome bonus on the app. but after I boosted the $6 100% bubble tea cashback offer and then realised the bubble tea $5 welcome bonus became the $6 100% cashback offer and that says already boosted. So will I still get $11?
If not, will I get $5 when I next purchase other welcome offer?
or $5 welcome bonus will be forfeited if I use the $6 100% bubble tea cashback first?
or forfeited anyway as I have already boosted the $6 100% bubble tea cashback offer?

        • I have the same question too 🤔

        • when I asked the question bubble teas were under the treats bonus so I thought it will be a stacked cashback but now it's gone so doesn't look like it's possible to stack it anymore.
also I wonder if the welcome bonus comes after first use or with first use.

      • I bought $15 but I can only see $6 bonus cashback

  • I've never had bubble tea from any of the stores that are listed here. Whats the general recommended store?

    • +3

Most of them are pretty good. Koomi for yoghurt drinks, Coco for milk teas, Oh Matcha for green teas, Remicone for ice cream type drinks, Milk flower for mango sago, Bubble Nini for more tea fruit drinks … which is most stores.

      • Are you allowed to have different types of drinks such as yogurt or ice cream?

        • You just choose an item from the menu? Each store sells different items. Unless they can specifically pick out bubble tea from the payment code. My guess is it will be anything on the menu. I don't see anything specific in the T&C that refer to this deal.

        • +2

Absolutely, we do not track the actual item you purchase.
We just track a purchase being made after clicking "Boost".

So any item from their menu will do :)

    • +2

      Coco

    • Bubble nini has great pearls. Handmade.

  • They have these new Lipton bubble tea kits at Woolworths/Coles which I thought were pretty nice for anyone interested.

    https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/176937/lip…

    • +2

Lipton ones are alright. Avalanche is bad. Just avoid the Chatime one. The ratios are all wrong. And you don’t even get a straw.

      • +1

Oolong Cha Time is the one buy.

    • +1

The lipton bubble tea kits are made in China. Wouldn't recommend.

  • I'm confused about how to pay instore… like I use my physical card that was linked to shopback account? How are they able to confirm that I made the transaction?

    • yeah i think if you link your CBA card for example then you need to boost Coco first then pay with that CBA card at Coco, thats how they can see, am i right ? @gotyourback

    • Hey both, this is the information provided to me by our In-Store team:

To be rewarded In-Store Cashback, ensure your Credit Card is linked to your ShopBack account.
You are then required to click the "Boost" button for the store you wish to make your purchase at.
Finally, pay with your Credit Card (there cannot be an EFTPOS logo on the physical card) or your Android/Apple device.
We cannot track transactions through EFTPOS, however if you use a Debit Card through your phone's wallet it will go through as Credit which can be tracked.

  • ok so find the shop you want to go,
    press boost,
link credit card (if not already),
use the same card to make payment on that shop,
get $6 back (well most bubbles are more than $6 anyway)

thats it ? cap at $6 meaning kind of just one per SB account

    • $6 cap is per ShopBack account.

  • im confused about the bonus.. so its $5 for which shop ? any that we have boosted ?

  • +1

Is it max $6 cashback per store or per Shopback account? It seems like I can boost the offer at multiple stores?

    • Would like to know this too.

    • Per ShopBack account :)

      • So you can use only once for this promotion per shopback account right?

        • Yep that's correct!

  • I went to the store and buy using nominated credit card, is that it?

    • To be rewarded In-Store Cashback, ensure your Credit Card is linked to your ShopBack account.

  • Will debit card/prepaid MasterCard via Google Pay be declined?

    • +1

To be rewarded In-Store Cashback, ensure your Credit Card is linked to your ShopBack account.
You are then required to click the "Boost" button for the store you wish to make your purchase at.
Finally, pay with your Credit Card (there cannot be an EFTOPS logo on the physical card) or your Android/Apple device.
We cannot track transactions through EFTPOS, however if you use a Debit Card through your phone's wallet it will go through as Credit which can be tracked.

      • Can I still use the offer after I press the "Boost" button when I have a debit card but now I have added a credit card in the app and plan to use it?

        • Yeah absolutely :)

  • +2

how does shopback know what I've spent money on with my linked credit card? I'm wondering how this works so you track the purchase given I'm purchasing using physical card/apple wallet, using my linked card??

    • We have partnered with these stores to allow for Credit Card order tracking.
This will only allow us to receive information on orders made at the participating stores, and nothing else.

Above are the steps required to allow us to track the purchase with our "Boost" feature :)

      • Silly question. I've had credit cards "added" to shopback which I usually use to buy gift cards. Does that mean I have "linked" credit card? Or it's a separate matter? Thanks.

        • Not a silly question at all!
That card is classified as a "Linked" Card, so you do not need to add anything else :)

  • Would this work if I was to use Liven to pay in store? As long as I boost the offer in ShopBack and then switch to Liven to pay with a card linked to my ShopBack account, it should work right?

    • -2

geesus just use cc direct for this one time offer , why so addicted with liven

    • We won't be able to track the transaction if you use Liven.
The payment needs to go through their terminal, and any other third party transactions won't be tracked.

      Cheers!

      • Thanks, I’ll keep that in mind.

  • Is this one cashback claim per credit card only? Asking as my wife has another shopback account but she has no credit card to charge this against

    • per account. if per CC imagine some members here has 15 credit cards alone…… not counting his wife parents and brothers

  • A debit card tracks the same as a credit card I'm assuming. Good deal GYB :)

    • +1

Hey mate, just be sure to read the above comments where I covered the tracking between Credit/Debit Cards :)

  • +1

Thanks! Received tracking as soon as I tapped my card haha!

    • Awesome, enjoy!

  • Tracked very fast on my Visa, only few seconds

    • 💪💪

  • +1

Is this 1 per account, or will I be having bubble tea everyday this week? 😂

    • hahaha only 1 per account :P

  • +2

This swayed me to use In-Store for the first time. Claim came through right away. Kinda impressed.

Worked in ACT, even though the app page says "ShopBack In-Store isn't available in your area yet." Could be because there's only 1 store in ACT, but you might want to adjust that message.

@GYB, if you don't store full credit card details, what mechanism are you using to attribute an in-store card payment to a SB account?

    • We don't store full CC details for our users' own security, which is why this information is stored in a third-party PCI DSS-compliant partner vault.
For the attribution mechanism, I'm personally not too sure about the technical implementation, but I believe this is made possible through our direct partnership with Visa and Mastercard to enable order tracking :)
