  • What are these points worth in terms of gift cards

  • Alright ! Second time round for me on this card.

I'll have over 500k points, unfortunately, cant use them for Int'l travel just yet.

    • Application approved.

Turnaround time = 7 calendar days from submission of documents.

  • I saw this deal a few weeks ago but didn’t post because IMO the spend requirement is pretty high.

Love the card though. Virgin Money updated their app earlier this year and it’s pretty good to use also.

  • Did citi operate this card?

    • Yes from memory

  • This was posted last month… but for some reason moved into an Expired offer. No idea why, since it was valid then.

    • Yeah, honestly wouldn't of posted it if it wasn't expired.

      The mysterious ways of Ozbargain.

  • Yes, operated by Citi.
I picked up one of these and got the points added for my first month - trouble free so far.

  • More commentary from the expired deal from earlier in the year. Got the card in October, spend period for the first month for me was from approval date, so had to spend $1500 in 10 days. 25k Points credited same day as first statement. It’s a good card considering the low annual fee and the virgin credit, but not so great on spend earn rate. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/622594

  • $6k spend is not easy given the large amount of purchases/merchants that are excluded.

Unless you have some large purchases or travel planned.

    • Totally agree, i have car rego and a few bills coming up so will likely just get 50,000 points then cancel, unless big sudden bills come up.

      • Rego is excluded…

They have a clause about "government" or "semi-government" merchants being excluded. Can't even use on public transport.

        • Ah well played.
          Well this will be interesting.

        • +1

To be clear, you can use the card for these but the purchases won't count.towards the $6K or earn points.

        • The CTP and other insurances are eligible spends.
          Include that in your calculations.

Also, servicing costs (if you are taking the car for a service with the safety check).

$1,500 / month is easy when you have a family to support (ouch).

      • Why don’t you just buy gift cards to make the spend up?

    • Is mortgage payments excluded?

      • Definitely not, go for it! Easy way to meet the $1500

        • That would make it simple to achieve for me. Cheers

  • For anyone interested, "eligible transactions" are defined on page 4 in here:

    https://virginmoney.com.au/content/dam/virginmoney/vma-downl…

    • for anyone interested but can't be bothered going to page four, just look below

      • You missed an important past - I didn't paste it all here in the first place because it's quite a lot.

"Please note that whether or not a transaction is an
Eligible Transaction will be determined based on
information provided either by the merchant or the
        relevant financial institution (including information
about the type of business conducted by the
merchant). This means that, for example, spend with
certain merchants may be characterised as spend
with a government related entity and therefore not
an Eligible Transaction, even if that merchant is not in
        fact a government related entity."

So Virgin/Citi get to decide after you have made a spend as to whether the merchant is government or "semi-government".

        • -1

pointless pasting it, I already did, and you could take out some carriage returns to make it a bit neater.. anyway
          maybe next time

          • @bohn: No you didn't paste it - read it again.

            • @gadgetguy: Yeah, mine mentions Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi–government entities as well as what is eligible
Your paste doesn't help any further
Also, learn to format posts https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/128793

No point saying 'guys, look at page 4 of a pdf for what is eligible' when you can just post it for everyone to see. But , put it as a 'quote' in ozbargain, and remove excess spacing and so on.

              • @bohn: You are clearly wrong - I said you missed an important part. Can't you see the additional text is very relevant and is in addition to what you posted? It's a very important point.

You quoted it and missed the most important part!. I already said I didn't quote in the first place because there's a lot of text.

Not sure why you keep arguing.

                • @gadgetguy: You must be new to citi credit cards - same conditions on all the citi backed deals - and they always have the gov or semi-gov condition , of which my quote says 'for example but not limited to'. So some transactions might be in doubt - which is why their conditions are so crap.

You can see how ruthless they are by what they specifically exclude: council, parking, tolls, public transport.

                • @gadgetguy:

I already said I didn't quote in the first place because there's a lot of text

On this point, I really can't believe I'm having to tell someone (again) who has been around since 2009. Learn to format. Use the quote function on ozbargain ">" and take out the carriage returns. Compare your paste above with mine and you should see what I am talking about. My goodness.

                  • @bohn: Now you've changed from saying you posted it all to now wittering on about how it looks. No one cares except you. I did the work to locate the relevant rules and posted a link.

You pasted (with lovely formatting) half of the text.

                    • @gadgetguy:

I already said I didn't quote in the first place because there's a lot of text
to now wittering on about how it looks

Wake up, gadgetguy. I'm trying to help you! If you format things properly, you will be able to quote text properly next time, rather than saying you can't because there's a lot of text ;)

FYI Google shows 8 results on ozbargain for the text you quoted, vs 30 for mine.
Guess that shows which Ozbargain values the most, eh? Yet you say it's the most important part.

Anyway, if this is your first credit card, I wish you luck. Enjoy.

                      • @bohn: I think people would rather have correct and complete quotes rather than incomplete and misleading quotes.

                        Have a nice day.

  • I hate a spend requirement each month for many months.. much better to just let us choose how we spend. Haven't done these sort of ones for awhile now.

Eligible Transaction means any purchase excluding (but not limited to) Cash Advances, Balance Transfers, Special Promotions, BPAY payments, purchases of foreign currency and travellers cheques, transactions made in operating a business, bank fees and charges such as interest and ATM charges and government related transactions. Government related transactions include transactions with government or semi–government entities, or relating to services provided by or in connection with government (for example but not limited to transactions made at Australia Post, payments to the Australian Taxation Office, council rates, motor registries, tolls, parking stations and meters, fares on public transport, fines and court related costs).

  • Regarding spend exemptions, has anyone tried the beemit BPAY loophole to pay bills to ensure they're eligible?
