The recent deals of 980 for $1799 is hard to beat and worth the extra $$ IMHO; auto grind, auto tamp, auto milk froth, dual boiler, steam/brew same time, least possible mess, wheel stopper, easy menu & ability to manual brew, etc..
Great comment - completely agree (having upgraded from a Sunbeam EM7000 dual boiler to The Breville Oracle).
That said, the OP's "Breville The Barista Touch" deal for $1099 may suit someone whom:
- Really didn't want to spend more than a grand
- Has limited kitchen bench space
- Wants a pretty looking machine with a colour screen interface
- Only uses it a few days a week when working from home etcEven if you use it daily this machine is fine,
Where it falls short is multi shots in comparison to the higher 9 series
Hey,
I got the same machine few months now. No matter how much I try, I can't get the brewing start between 8-12sec. It is always less than 8sec. Tried many different coffees. Using Matow tamper, weighing ~19g ground coffee etc. etc. Still no luck.
I'm not using single basket, it gives very bad coffee as the pouring would start within 3-4sec. Even for a single coffee, I'm suing the double basket.
Are you using woolworths shelf coffee?
I tried Campos, Veneziano, Lime Blue etc. All the same with timing. I think I like Lime Blue out of the lot I tested.
I've pulled 1000 shots and yes it starts about 6-7 seconds if you want a good coffee with a decent flow (not slow or fast)
Well then I'm not alone. I was thinking could there be better taste if I could get the brewing after 8 sec. Also, I'm still struggling to get the consistency. I leave grinding at 5 or 6 settings, which gives me about the 6-7sec brewing start time. But sometimes pour is so thin and slow.
With Barista Pro non touch (cheaper too), you can brew manually to have your desired pre-infusion time, I reckon better option / control rather than touch screen which prone to expensive repair if something goes wrong.
The touch is manual as well, the screen is purely there to save preferences which is really useful if you have multiple people in the house that have different preferences including adjusting milk temp and texture between types of milk.
The Pro only has a manual steam wand where the Touch can also do it automatically.
Same with me. I have had Breville look at it and they said it was totally fine. My pour usually starts at 7 seconds.
I can still pour a 60ml double shot within the 30 second pour time. If its pouring more than reduce the time.
I find with a single I can pull a decent shot if I tamp it less and set the pour time to 20 seconds. That’s good info. I should give a try with single bucket
Quite the sweet spot, since it has the ability to dial in more accurately with the binder clip, as well as has the improved automated milk frothing. If only it was 58mm, would be perfect.
Not a bad price! I just picked this exact machine up a few weeks ago at David Jones for $999, but this is a solid deal. Also worth noting you can get a $320 coffee giftpack through redemption at Breville when you purchase this.

I have this exact machine (10 months now) and its a great machine, you have to love the process of making coffee to enjoy these types of machines.
just be mindful for this colour when you wash the drip tray NO MATTER how careful you are the black paint on the bottom rail beam will scratch/come off over time making the finish/look less appealing.
You can select the silver colour as well.
I've got the stainless steel version of this machine and I highly recommend it! I would of gone the dual boiler but the auto heating milk is great for my wife. I heat my milk manually and can get decent art out of it. I use oak or almond milk with no issues. I came from a Jura J9.3 Super Automatic. If you can go a dual boiler but it would require a separate grinder. I am already messy enough with an inbuilt grinder.
