  • Are these any good and durable?

    • +1

I think they are okay for the price. I prefer SCA stuff to the bargain bin Bunnings brands.

    • +4

Yep for this price you can't go wrong. I've had this set for about 4 years, used daily at work and it's been good. The ratchets have held up well and I haven't exactly been gentle with them. Be aware that it's pretty damn heavy if you need to carry it around, but mine just sits on the top of my toolbox so no problems there. It's got a ton of stuff I never use, 90% of the imperial stuff I have never needed. The spanners are a bit meh compared to some other sets I have. There are definitely nicer tools out there but not in this price range. It's probably worth considering what sockets and spanners you actually will use as you might not use a lot of the stuff in this set ever.

    • ToolPro is really good, way better than the SCA brand and other generic brands - comparable to sidchrome imo

      • not sure why you got negged ….. much of the toolpro range is made in taiwan, same as sidchrome and kinchrome vs the SCA budget range which is made in china …..

sidchrome is owned by stanley black and decker ….. amongst a few other brands such as mac tools ……

think this clearance is because supercheap have a new toolpro range out where the open end spanners have an extra “torque” grip so they will make space for the new range ….new range seems to have a green coloured theme to the boxes , BUT made in china from the stock i saw, some of the old toolpro stock was made in taiwan, not sure how much weight country of origin has now ….. also check if din or ansi when buying tools …..din is euro standard and tighter tolerances than ansi …..

  • Looking for my first socket set, how would this be compared to STHOR 58691?

    • +2

I don't own either set, there are more reviews on SCA website. The toolpro one has a 'lifetime warranty' which the amazon one does not which is probably more appealing, you may be able to get discounted gift cards/cashback.
The sockets in the amazon are 6 point compared to the 12 point on toolpro, people usually prefer 6 point (to do with contact area and less likelihood of rounding nuts, others factors include the finish and fit of socket, user technique). There are more pces on the amazon one, with torx bits, depending on application ymmv. Previous posts have further comments https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/625137

    • Pick up this instead: https://www.bunnings.com.au/sidchrome-1-2-drive-socket-set-5…

      Much better quality.

    • well come to the tool money pit …the amazon set looks good on paper but until you see a set it’s hard to know the finish …..if they skimp on finish it will be the open end of the spanners not the shine of the sockets ….6 pt is better but the amazon set is just metric, the toolpro also has imperial ….not used on newer cars much until you have a rounded metric nut and imperial is a better fit ……or you are working with coach bolts from bunnings which are imperial …..either set will pay for itself in the first use ….but SCA have a new toolpro-x range at the front of the store so this old style might be clearance i’d say as they only keep one toolpro range and a cheaper SCA range and the old toolpro range looks different packaging and open end spanners are different design, sockets are anti slip, etc.

  • -1

I would want 2 x 10mm sockets to pull the trigger

    • +1

You're in luck. There are a total of 3.
      1 x 1/4" 10mm
      1 x 3/8" 10mm
      1 x 3/8" 10mm Deep Socket

    • +1

Is that because 10mm sockets seem to just disappear somewhere. I call them the single sock socket

  • Made in Taiwan or China?

    • +3

      It’s chynah

      • -1

        sad

        • +1

          Sad times ahead

    • taiwan ….picked one up today …..

if you are chinese then it’s china …..

      • Ahh nice Taiwan, might not be too bad.

  • Price aside (as both these sets occasionally go half price) but which is a better set to throw in the boot for road trips
The one in this deal or this one? I can't help but feel you need some pliers, cutters etc but the one in this deal does have a wider range of spanners.

    • +1

Yep, I feel pretty similar but also wanted the range of spanners and also ratchet spanners. In the end I bought the kit in the post and replaced the imperial spanners for metric ratchet spanners. I just have to carry separate pliers and allen/torx keys.

  • Are sockets 6 or 12 point ones?

    • 12 mostly

  • +2

    Lost me at imperial sockets

    • Yep agreed.

  • Why no cable ties anymore ?????

  • Hopefully there'll be a metric car tool kit with 6 point sockets on sale somewhere during black friday. There's gotta be. Everyone keep your eyes peeled.

  • yeah 6 pt sockets are the way to go if you can only have one set …..
this toolpro is kit is good for people who might only have 1 tool set or a first one …..i have one from a few years ago and mine was made in taiwan, not sure if that has changed to china…… some of the stanley ones are 6 pt but don’t include spanners …..

it’s a great starter set at this price …

im curious if they will have the new toolpro-x on boxing day promo ….anti slip open end spanners and 6pt anti slip sockets but unfortunately bright chrome instead of satin chrome finish ……guess you need something different as repco now have mechpro, and bunnings sell stanley which leads to price match issues.
