I’m posting this deal and I know it is not the lowest price in the market; however, I recently bought many mats from different sellers (during the multiple lockdowns 😊 ), including a couple from this company. Considering the PU leather quality and the edge stitching, I think this is a good deal for the price and the size (80cmx40cm).
Moreover, I liked the fact this OZ company donates 10% of their profit to the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation, which is, for me, enough reason to support them

Important note
These mats are made of artificial/Vegan leather (PU leather), not natural leather. Natural leather price is usually five times more ($70-$90).

What is PU leather? (Copied from a google search)
PU leather is split leather that has been laminated with a polyurethane coating to make it look like top grain leather. Usually, these leathers have a glossy surface and an antique look. PU leather is used for cars interior, furniture and shoes.

Mod note: What is PU leather? (A more accurate explanation)
PU leather, or polyurethane leather, is an artificial leather made of thermoplastic polymer used for making furniture or shoes. 100% PU leather is completely artificial and is considered vegan. There are some types of PU leather called bicast leather that have actual leather but has a polyurethane coating on top. This type of PU leather takes the fibrous part of cowhide that are leftover from making genuine leather and put a layer of polyurethane on top of it.

    Desk Mat $15.99 (Was $21.99) + Delivery

Are these the same ones that have been selling for $12.99 ?

Also when I read PU leather, I understand it to be completely plastic, no leather component at all.

    • Yes, but it's made in such a way to be a similar texture to leather, a replacement for it.

Just like how plant based meat doesn't actually have any meat in it ;)

Agreed, I was just commenting in subtle rebuttle to the definition OP included in post - no split leather to be seen in PU "leather"

So much misleading advertisement these days.

It’s like coke cola , I can tell you after snorting that stuff there is no coke in it .

      • it's highly diluted, you've gotta try a few cans in a row

      Pretty Ugly Leather…

      • Pee? Ew.

      • I agree, however, I think the main reason some people go for the synthetic leather is the lower cost compared to genuine leather.
If I can afford the actual leather cost, I would most probably choose it over the PU leather

Same as more premium brands calling it “vegan” leather instead of cheap plastic. Just a marketing strategy.

        I am sorry… I am new to all this…
Does it taste like vegan food too?

        • +1

Bought it anyway. Let's give it a try.

          • @SickDmith: Hey SickDmith
            Did you receive it?
            What do you think?

            • @[Deactivated]: It looks Ok for the price.
Some minor defects on edges (the cut is not clean) but in general is the quality is OK - will be using for now - it will protect my desk from scratches and hot cup. :)

I haven't tried this specific product, but every time i hear PU, i just imagine sooner or later this thing is going to start peeling and making a godawful mess.

It's the stuff they coat crappy sofas in. They look fine when new, but soon look like an animal has attacked them savagely.

Is the PU polyester based? If so, that's a carcinogenic! Philips got in to a huge trouble recently : https://www.tga.gov.au/alert/philips-recall-action-cpap-bi-l…

    • +1

That's an issue with CPAP parts breaking up and being inhaled into the lungs in microscopic pieces. Probably less of an issue with a desk mat (I'd hope!)

      • It seems like PE-PUR off gases for its life. If its a desk mat its probably close enough to inhale the gases? Or to be in contact with such gases. I am not an expert - but I am not risking my life for a desk mat.

Can someone explain why we need a desk mat? It looks good, just wondering if I need it.

    • I don't personally have a use for one, but this post explains the rationale

    • softer surface, protects your table, also protects your stuff from dirty covid tables in public, nice workplace for your MacBook and custom keyboard.

i bought 2 days ago, received yesterday. i like it, it feels durable, stitched edges.

    • I use it for comfort, it gives a bit of cushion when typing on the keyboard and use the mouse. Furthermore, I can put hot food while working - does not damage the bamboo updowndesk I have

    • In addition to what was said. I personally like it is portable, so I can use it over a desk at a shared workplace if it's not practical to sanitise it
I think many people use it to protect the surface of their furniture

Did you try using a computer mouse on it? How does it feel?
Tempted to get one but just wondering if the mouse movement feels natural.

  • +1

I got mine delivered today using it under my PC.

    Seems good quality.
