  • Switch pro or the 8bitdo controller??

    • +6

Switch Pro for one simple reason - you can’t turn the system on from the 8bitdo controller

      • +6

8bitdo is a way better controller though, considering you can just use your tv remote to turn the switch on just as easily.

        • +4

The only time I preferred the 8bit controller was when playing d-pad only games, eg 2d or Street Fighter etc. the Pro is way more comfortable when using the analogue stick, at least for me.

          • @The Almighty Dollar: Comepletely fair. I prefer the feel of the 8bitdo pro 2 or wahtever it, has the back paddles too. Controllers will always be subjective.

            • @ONEMariachi: pro if you like xbox stick layout, 8bitdo if you like PlayStation sticks layout.

        • +2

TV remote to turn on the switch…?

          How… does this work…?

          • @CodeXD: It's CEC, just going to the input your switch is attached to should automatically turn it on. Does for me at least.

            • +2

@ONEMariachi: I always thought that was the other way around. You turn on the switch and TV automatically turns on to the HDMI switch is plugged into.

              • @CodeXD: That happens too.

              • @CodeXD: My PS5 does both which is kinda annoying, turning PS5 on turns on TV (this is OK) but also TV turns on the PS5 (which then auto-switches to the PS5 home screen - not fine).

            • @ONEMariachi: CEC (Switch) only works for turning the TV off with my Samsung - PS5 is on and off. You sure you can turn the Switch on with your setup?

Edit - no mention of the TV turning on the Switch. https://ibb.co/q7qQqcY

              • @baratta: yeah, though i don't think it worked on my newer samsung(2018 q60) when i had it on that tv. It's on my really old samsung(2010 something) in my bedroom now. I'm definitely not getting out of bed to turn it on lol.

                • @ONEMariachi: Probably worth amending your 8bitdo comment above - I know I’d be annoyed to buy a controller that couldn’t turn on the system from the couch. I’d totally prefer it over the Pro if it had that functionality

                  • @baratta: Just tried it. It works on all 3 of my tvs. I was wrong about the Samsung 2018 tv not working. 3rd tv is a Sony x9000h

                    • @ONEMariachi: So when the Switch is asleep, you select its hdmi input and it wakes it up with your TV remote? Is the Switch recognised by the TV as a switch? Then settings/ general / external device manager for that input you have anynet+ (hdmi-cec) ticked? Anything else aside from match TV state on switch?

All I have read (and from my experience with a 2018 and a 2019 Samsung) is that the switch can turn off the TV, but the TV can’t turn on the switch. Enlighten me :)

Edit - Switch OLED here btw

        • -1

This, and I despise the analog placement in switch pro like xbox. Then again this is probably because I grew up playing playstation mostly

    • +1

If you game on the PC as well, I would go the 8Bitdo. Both connect but the 8Bitdo has proper digital triggers, Switch pro is analogue.

Handy for a lot of games - say Battlefield when jumping in a vehicle, any flight sims, whatever.

    • I have small hands and find the Pro controller a little uncomfortable to hold for longer periods of time. I have an 8bitdo adapter and use a PS4 controller instead.

  • +1

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl for $64 is the best deal around so far I think. Thanks

    • +7

      $64 each

  • +3

Hot wheels ps5/Xbox/switch for $39 is pretty good 👍 i

  • +1

Is echo show 5/ring bundle $149 a good deal? Too bad show 5 does not have zigbee.

  • +3

Ghost of Tsushima DC on PS4 for $49 can be upgraded for $15 on the PS store, making it by far the cheapest option for the definitive Ghost experience

    • +1

Where are you seeing $15 I see $30?

      • I think it is $15 to upgrade from PS4 version of DC to PS5, but $30 to upgrade from PS4 version of vanilla to PS5 DC?

        I'm guessing, though.

        • +1

It's $45 from vanilla PS4 to PS5 DC, $15 for the generation patch and $30 for the extra content.

          • @Joemomma: So is the generation patch something that appears once you have the game installed, because I can only find the $30 upgrade on the PS Store.

            • @eth32: I'm not sure, there might be more info online somewhere.

  • Fifa 22 for ps5 $49 is the cheapest yet. I might get it

  • Isn’t the echo/ring bundle just a rehash of the deal they had two weeks ago? We really don’t do Black Friday well here

    • +1

Well….considering Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving…

      • When is that?
We don't do Thanksgiving here haha

  • The air fryer is a decent price

  • Since the catalogue is showing $69 for demon’s souls, is it safe to assume that it won’t go back to the $49 that was up earlier in the week? I might just buy it from HN who have the next cheapest at $64.

    • I wouldn't say that.

Back 4 Blood is $59 in this catalogue, at the same time it will be $39 at JB.

      • I don't think the catalogue had demon's souls for sale though for black friday no?

        • It didn't. But my point is that just because this Big W catalogue has it for a price doesn't mean it won't be cheaper elsewhere, just as B4B will be cheaper elsewhere.

  • eShop card only available from the 26th it seems. Is it possible to get multiple and redeem to the same account?

    • Thanks for pointing out it's on the 26th, was planning to go on Tuesday!

But yes you can redeem as many as you want, it just adds funds to your wallet on the eShop.

      • So as it just adds fund to your wallet, the gift cards can then be used to purchase the 2xGame Vouchers for $134.95? Thanks.

        • +1

          Yes
I have done it before when previous gift cards were on special.

        • Think there is a max limit on your Nintendo account something like 300 or 500 can’t quite recall.

  • I bought Ghost's of Tsushima from Amazon for $59 on Friday.
Hopefully they price match so I can get a refund.

    • PS5 or PS4? This is the price for PS4 only.

      • It was for the PS4.

    • they didnt with me in past so i had to srnd back and rebuy it which is a waste but discourages price matchers.

    • Link please?

  • The Cricut Joy price is pretty good too. $229 , on page 13

    • The price is good, however it seems like the startup costs and ongoing costs are pretty expensive.

Unless there are cheaper options that I am unaware of?

  • +2

Looks like woolies also doing eshop cards 10% off. Anyone know if I can purchase eshop cards using wish gift cards?

    • Generally you can't use a gift card to purchase another gift card.

    • From today?

    • +1

You cannot do that. Woolworths (and BIG W) updated their checkout systems in late 2018 to stop you from doing that.

  • +2

Finally a deal on eShop cards! Been waiting to stock up, used up all my credit since the last deal.

  • Worth pointing out, Tsushima DC is $49 for the PS4 version. It is $79 for PS5.

There is no free upgrade path.

    • Still better off playing the PS4 version (which works on the PS5 anyway), then just pay for the upgrade… free trophies!

I did this with the campaign mode, but I feel I should play the new content on the PS5 version to enjoy the upgraded visuals.

  • Went shopping on Black Friday a few years back never have I seen customers trash retail stores, was like the apocalypse was brewing.

  • I'm looking for a deal on the base Nintendo Switch console. Should be reduced now the OLED is out. Dumb question - can I buy the console from the eshop?

  • Does Big W normally match their offers on their eBay store? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/124776707739

    • BIG W doesn’t actually have a price match policy or a price beat policy (except for some back-to-school items sold during their back-to-school sales early in the calendar year).

You may get lucky and find a staff member who will be willing to price match, but don’t get your hopes up.

      • +1

I've price matched for years and never had a problem. Never knew they didn't have a policy for it.

        • +1

Sorry, my question was whether they will update their eBay listing to reflect their online price, not if they will pricematch :)

          Thank you though!

          • @MiCCAS: Oops.

I think it is eBay policy that if the price of an item on a retailer’s regular website changes, the retailer must update the price for the same item on their eBay store to match the regular website.

However, for BIG W, the most likely scenario is that they’ll take down the listing for the item if they change the price on their regular online store, particularly if it ends up being a really good deal.

    • +1

      They updated the price!

      • Thanks!!!!!

  • Made me pull the trigger on Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, thanks OP. Love 20% off on a Tuesday morning

    • Where is this 20% off?

  • Has anyone seen any OLED deals recently? Doesn't have to be a mind blowing deal but anything less than RRP will make it feel decent. I saw some $50 off deals early on, bit hoped there would be something for black Friday.

I want it for long flights mostly so would benefit from a nice screen. Have a 16 hour flight coming up in December so would like to get it before then.

  • +1

Worked with $20 off $50 Spend at BIG W @ CBA x Little Birdie - got the switch pro controller for $59 pick up instore

    • Same :)

    • Thanks for sharing this!!!

  • For anyone who has afterpay check if you have pulse rewards. I had $10 off 50 for big w. Got fifa 22 plus $1 item for $40

  • +1

For those without a nearby BigW, Amazon appear to have price matched their switch game prices.

  • +1

So I can confirm this is by far the cheapest way to get the Ghost of Tsushima Directors Cut PS5 edition. Once you get the PS4 game you must install it, get through the intro before going back into the main menu. In the top right corner there will be a prompt to purchase the PS5 upgrade for $15. This will bring the total cost to $64.

  • I tried to buy nintendo eshop gift card with a Big W gift card but no luck. Has anyone been successful or is it not ever possible to do this?

    • +1

You haven’t been able to use gift cards issued by Woolworths Group (including BIG W gift cards) to purchase any gift cards for at least three years.

If you’re looking to purchase gift cards using gift cards, it should work at JB Hi-Fi or EB Games.
