      Hello friend

Works quite well. Synchronisation very fast and reliable. Syncs with my phone from 50m away. Battery life good too.

Hope to see this at $250 again

  • meh, garmin can (profanity) off. i am happy with amazfit bip which is a better all day watch. i charge it about once a month and it gps my runs just fine when i need to.

    • +1 - Never again after the piece of shit that was a vivoactive 3.

      • +3

Garmin do running watches like this Forerunner 245 very well. Sounds like no so well on the smart watches (Vivoactive)

        • I have the vivoactive 3 and haven’t been disappointed. Works perfectly for what I want.

          • @jjjaar: Same here, happy with the Vivoactive 3. Interested to here @knk perspective.

            • +1

@danielpenna: So I got rid of mine a few years ago now. I don't think the va3 would be considered a smart watch, but anyway it tracked runs just fine. That was one thing I didn't have an issue with.

It was meant to automatically track exercise / reps etc from memory. This worked 0 times, not a huge deal i guess.

Main thing was the battery went to shit after 13 months and couldn't be worn overnight without having to charge it so no sleep tracking available.

2 broken straps while in the warranty period, they sent me new ones to be fair and warranty process was good.

For a watch that was so expensive when it was new I found it quite disappointing. I moved to a bip S afterwards and honestly didn't miss any functionality except the sleep tracking on the VA3 was better when the battery wasn't terrible.

Watches were rendered useless and the app wouldn't even open when the whole garmin hack happened.

Now using an amazfit t-rex that I'm happy enough with but it's not very old so longevity is still up in the air. For $130aud if it lasts a year only I won't be too mad though.

I do resistance training daily and maybe 20-30 minutes of cardio a day, generally indoors but sometimes a run. Realistically it's all a wank. We're tracking HR, steps and GPS to get a gauge on overall movement / health - even the cheapest of watches do this.

I think if you're really into running or some other specific sport and very accurate cadence / other running metrics are important then you're probably better off with a decent brand that you have the option of connecting a chest strap to.

If you're a gym rat like me, it doesn't make a tangible difference. I just want a reasonably accurate heart rate / sleep / GPS tracker + notifications then a cheaper more basic watch is more than enough.
I also don't see myself consistently putting on a chest strap as much as I'd like a more accurate measurement during resistance training. The option would be nice though.

          • @jjjaar: commented below, good you had better luck than me!

it depends man. for just general fitness prob amazfit. If serious and athlete then Garmin

      • I agree but i also have tried both. I had a vivoactive3 and i returned it because it was ridiculous how quickly it would churn thru the battery. if it's going to live in my dresser draw unless i want to go for the weekly run, it's just not worth the effort to keep two watches. my amazfit bip can easily track all my runs (approx 10km a week) and i have no need for the garbage garmin bloatware on my phone. I can't stress how much i hate the software as much as the teh shitty battery life on these things which still cost so much money.

        • pique someone's curiosity… How much battery would you have on your 10k weekly runs?

I just want to see if the amazed fit still have enough battery for a 40 km per week run, would be wearing the watch every night to track sleep

          • @PeeDee: The weekly 10km probably takes maybe 10-20% off battery, i never really pay attention because it doesn't really need charging often. i went thru a 5-10km a day phase with the bip, was probably charging every 2 weeks or so. But from memory i was doing half of that volume on the treadmill so it wasn't gps tracked. I don't know much about sleep tracking, if i had it on or not, i may have, but can't remember. Anyway if it matters i'd get both, use the garmin for running and chuck the piece of shit in the draw when not running because charging a watch every other day or every couple of days is just stupid and useless for an always on-you watch you depend on for notifications etc.

            • @magnitude: I can see that if after just simple fitness watch then amazefit could be the go to. I can see below the GForerunner 245 can be offered lower than the amazefit, I would get that in a heartbeat. I value customer service and know Garmin is very good and hear amazefit can be bad so just be ready if you are after a refund or have technical prob.

              • @PeeDee: i just feel it's not worth the price. When i go on the road i don't have to worry about charging my watch, i know it wil last me thru the trip. etc. It's one less thing to worry about. I dont like being glued to a phone, i will put it in a bag or in my pocket and only check it if my watch buzzes and i care about the notification. Garmin do have decent hardware albeit with the worst of the class battery performance and also worst in the class software. So it''s not really a premium product, very flawed overall. but i would get one as a dumb gps watch, i still want a 235 lol, they were pretty decent for that.

just bought recently from rebel $289-$45 shopback cb = $244

  • +28

Can also get it for $224 total at The Iconic by adding $10 worth of items and using the coupon “beICONIC75” as a new user (new email).

Should be able to stack with cashback also.

    • Thank you for this, just bought one and a pair of socks.

    • Even better deal, thank you.

    • Thanks Doweyy. Grabbed one to replace my brand new Fitbit Charge 5 that doesn't seem to want to have working GPS.

    • Couldnt resist at that price

    • That code shouldn’t stack with cashback as it’s unlisted on ShopBack or CashRewards

      • +1

No harm in trying, but I have previously been paid out using new user codes on The Iconic, it doesn't seem like they care too much.

        • Thanks - will give it a go!

    • now that's a very good price!

    • Thanks. Only seemed t have the white 245 so went for the fenix 6 for $425. Cheapest I have seen it.

      • The Fenix 6 range have a lot of variables. I'd double check the features you desire before it ships. Pretty sure if you want onboard music you need to get the Fenix 6 Pro for example.

        • Correct
          F6 - no music
F6 Pro/Sapphire/Solar - in built Spotify playlist storage

  • It’s been a great watch but need something with a longer battery life. Hope there is a new forerunner range out soon.

    • +1

The battery on my one lasts about a week

      • -2

        Not during an activity.
Went from 100% to 20-odd% during a run yesterday and that is with reduced GPS settings

        • +1

It definitely shouldn't be dropping that low during one run, especially if it is within a couple of yrs old. If it is still within warranty, I would make a claim. I have this exact model. I recharge mine once a week. I do not have any settings permanently turned off to save the battery. I do a 1hr run every day. I am very happy with the watch and believe the battery life to be exceptional compared to the alternatives I was considering which needed to be charged every day or 2.

          • @RoosterBooster: I was out for over 12 hours. Cronos would be fine but Garmin have their limits. I don’t really want to switch brands though.

I’d love a 245m upgrade with Garmin pay, altimeter, better battery and map navigation

            • @JelIyfish: GPS tracking for 12 hours is going to consume the battery of a watch designed primarily for running.

          • -1

@RoosterBooster: Lol not sure why I’m being downvoted for posting fact… oh well!

            • -1

@JelIyfish: Def wasn't me!. Can I just say though, I am in a running club. Nearly everyone has a Garmin. Most of us own the 245m. Noone has mentioned the battery ever being a problem. I suspect you may have a faulty unit if you are getting significant battery drops like that.

              • @RoosterBooster: Lol.. someone trigger happy with the voting as though it actually means something!
Yes it’s been a great watch, don’t get me wrong. I guess my needs have changed rather than the watch not being good enough.

                • +1

@JelIyfish: Sounds to be the case. For me, the 245 has everything I need and none of the things I don't need. I don't miss not having altimeter, garmin pay etc. I got mine 12 mths ago for the same price as this deal. Have been more than happy enough with it for my needs, including battery life.

    • -1

Turn of the auto HR function… Most people don't need their heart rate tracked all day. Extends battery life a lot!

      • +3

        Yeah but pretty graphs!

      • -1

I need heart rate tracking during an activity

        • Same. I turn it on for running.

          • -1

@Nils: I’m only talking about battery life during an activity. It isn’t enough.

Outside of an activity it is fine with standard settings.

  • $279 at Amazon and free delivery if you have Prime

  • +2

Still reeling that I paid $420 for mine last year!! Nonetheless, it’s still an awesome watch, definitely worth every penny

    • Probably too late for you but that's why I have price protection on my credit card. It's the best thing ever.

  • I don't need any sporting features but just want to listen to MP3 on the go. Is this still a good choice?

    • It links to your music streaming service and you save items to the watch. Yes this is a great feature and pretty easy to setup.
I’m not sure if you can put your own mp3 files into the watch

  • Was keen to see this deal yesterday, but noticed that I could get a Forerunner 945 for $449 - on sale for $499 at Rebel Sport, plus 10% off their gift cards at RewardsGateway.

  • How long does the battery last? With HR on and off?
