Don't be turned off by the $35 setup fee - it's like bug repellent for the leechers - it's small price to pay which means the rest of us get a solid, uncongested network. I should also add that the $35 setup fee does actually contribute to actual staff costs as the configuration of this connection is done by hand in this small company.

FBB resell a TPG/AAPT Business product, which means high reliability and significant available bandwidth at 'premium' residential prices. Static routed IPv4 included which means limited downtime with no dependency on a DHCP servers to get your IP address.

How is their Service difference from Superloop or ABB

      • -1

I've been with them a couple of years now. The internet service is on a par with Aussie but you do get a Routed Static IP and the option to move to cheaper plans if you can live with a data plan (being able to bank unused data each month makes is way easier to do). Most top notch internet ISP's all charge about the same price now days so its the inclusions that make this attractive for some.

  • Anyone on a NBN 1000/50 Flatrate Data in St Kilda Vic and have any feedback of the service?

    Cheers

    Positive experience with FBB

Been with them for just over a year now, moved over from TPG (Residential). I'm on HFC in Brisbane. Other than NBN network issues (which are outside of their control and would affect every provider), I've never had to contact them. I was sold by being cheaper than TPG (I prepay and get a 7.5% discount) and having a static IP.

The negative is that they are based in WA and support only work weekday business hours over there. To be honest, the one time I did contact them, they just acknowledged what I knew (that it was an NBN network issue) and that they would put in the report.

  • Can anyone speak to their experience with 12/1 Nbn? Or should I shell out a bit more for at least 25/5?

Other than just basic web surfing, I do quite frequent zoom meetings, and basic media consumption like Netflix, YouTube, a little bit of mobile games. Am thinking about getting a PS5 to play some PvP games like COD though, if that matters.

If anyone has any cost-effective suggestions, let me know. I’m also considering other things like mobile broadband potentially.

12/1 Is more than enough to stream HD (if it is always at least 8/1+), but for streaming 4K, zoom meetings and online gaming you will need 25/5 (or 25/10 if zoom is in 4k).

    • Not sure about NBN, I currently on Telstra cable, persistent speed is 114/5. There is sometimes straggling to smothly stream on Youtube 1080p video. Maybe NBN is more reliable?

Playing CoD will be fine, as will all the other tasks you mentioned. Downloading CoD will take days. My experience with mobile data while gaming is that there's a minor ping hit, but the real problem is the packet loss. Fixed line is much more stable.

    • Yeah when you get 3+ people trying to watch youtube at 1080p it buffers quite a lot at NBN 12

Why not go with Superloop at 54.95$ for 6 months then change to something else for another 6 months? Works out cheaper.

Edited: ahh has phone included. Who uses home phone these days?

    • It also includes a Routed Static IP which is handy if you run a server or some games, security camera network etc.

    NBN 12/1 – $50 for the first 12 months [Decent price $40-45]
NBN 25/10 $60 for the first 12 months [Decent price ~$45-50]
NBN 50/20 $75 for the first 12 months [Decent price $45-55]
NBN 100/40 $100 for the first 12 months [Decent price $60-80]

and + extra $35 setup cost

What ??? you calling it a deal? its a clear no deal.

Currently on Exetel NBN 50 for $50/month for 6 months.

Have left the prices I'd be willing to pay after discounts etc on my new NBN connections with any promo deals (anything above that is a clear no deal, just a standard or hyped up price)

No need of phone connection nowadays everything is on sims/esims and you relying on Cable phones to bundle up and pay extra for NBN? not worth it

  • Here is my experience with Future:

We signed up to NBN (FW) with an nbn install date booked 4 wks ahead. When it was time for our connection day, I contacted future to ask if we needed to do anything, have anything ready etc. They informed us that no date was in the system for the install and blamed nbn for not booking the timeslot.

We then had to re-book and wait another 4 wks. The nbn installer came that day to discover no signal (despite all other residents of our st having nbn). He couldn't connect us. We contacted future to advise them and they said we didn't need to do anything, that the nbn would mark the order 'rejected' and future would follow up and process a refund within a day or 2, providing email confirmation. 3 wks later we had not received the email or refund. I contacted future who advised our account was marked for clean up work. They stated they would process it the following day. It ended up taking a further week till it was sorted.

We wanted to support a small business and did our research beforehand, believing some discounts they offer would level out the costs of the setup fee. I appreciate that, through their 'chat' feature, I was able to contact them during their hours. I'm sure that if we had been connected, we would not of had any problems once set up. However, I was disappointed at the lack of communication and follow up. It seemed we had to contact future to find out what was happening or follow up as they were a little slack on that part.

    • When it comes to connecting to FW, FBB seems to a accept whatever information NBN gives them. It's important for the customer to pay close attention to what's happening via the order tracking facility on the website. As soon as I knew our tower was active and the NBN address checker was showing we could apply for a service, I contacted FBB to activate our pre-order. We got an appointment for the morning of the 8th of November, this being the first day NBN was doing installations in our area. Early Monday morning, we received a text from NBN saying the appointment was cancelled due to a system outage. However, the same afternoon NBN was doing installations in the area.

Two days later, on the Wednesday, we were informed by FBB that NBN had placed our order 'on hold' due to an NBN infrastructure shortfall (?) with a Planned Date of 21-12-2021, some 6 weeks away. This advice knocked us for six. FBB seemed to accept this advice from NBN and did not do anything to challenge it. As installations were happening all around us, I wasn't going to take this lying down. I emailed the Head of NBN Regional Affairs in WA and explained the situation. She managed to get us off held and score an appointment for the 17th of November, Wednesday next week. If we had not been proactive, we may well have had to wait till after Xmas to get connected. I accept that FBB only has a small team and may not have the resources to challenge the NBN when customers are being treated unfairly. I also don't know if another ISP would have performed any better in this situation. I suspect not.

At our other place, we have been customers of FBB for over 3 years and the service has been faultless. The ability to prepay 6 months for a 7.5% discount saves us some money as well as the databanking plan. No point in paying for unlimited when we only use 500GB or less. I am confident that once we are connected to FW, the service will be equally solid as long as our tower does not get congested.

  • $100/month + $35 setup for 100/40 if i only need NBN (don't have home phone) - 12 months contract?
    $90/month + $0 setup for 100/20 - 6 months contract?

    • Month-to-month but with 30 days notice to cancel, the discount is what lasts 6-12 months.

      • FBB only requires two weeks to cancel.

        • Right. Performance nbn (100/40) is 14 days notice
but for home nbn (100/20) 30 days notice is required to cancel the service.

  • Currently with exetel and considering these guys for my next provider

Things I like is the fact you can bank data and there's a setup fee so hopefully they are paying their support and sales staff proper wages

Things I'm less sure about is that the conditions are a little complex for some readers. I think I understand, but others might not.

Finally, just asking for why peeps might choose this vs excetel vs tpg (who I actually never had an issue with, they just couldn't match the speed plan that exetel successfully delivered on)

    Any and all input appreciated
