Isn't that that word in the seinfeld season 1 episode when they're playing scrabble?

  • Has anyone tried putting this stuff into a spag bol? I'm thinking as long as the texture's not strange, I could get away with sneaking in a cheeky plant based meal into the family.

    • Assuming you're talking the meatballs or the mince, neither of them is plant-based. They both have egg, like most of Quorn products. And it's probably safe to assume it's not a happy egg.

      • Hmmmm that's a shame. Gradual steps I suppose, and least a step in the right direction.

    • Quorn mince has the mildest taste of all plant based mince alternatives that I've used.
If you're trying to sneak it into a meal like Spag Bog, you'll have more luck than with any other alternative I've tried.

      • My own experience is the opposite - not that I'm trying to sneak anything past anyone. IMO Quorn tastes worse than most other plant meat products - it's got a musty thing about it. The only good thing about Quorn is that it's pretty much always on special somewhere; I still don't buy it.

    • Done it a few times with the mince. Pretty good, people enjoy the meaty chunkiness of it

      • It's not bad, but it's too delicate and some textured soy/plant protein like in Huva Bolognaise Mix are better at pretending to be beef.

It works well in spag bol, it has the right texture, but next to no flavour at all. You really have to amp up the flavour with your sauce and extra garlic, herbs etc.
