    just a warning for early dates ive been watching japan travel info as I want to travel there and april is the earliest ive seen mention for opening up to tourist without quarantine and that depends on any more breakouts

      Where are you seeing April? Everything i've read says no one has any idea what the government plan is but they've just opened up to business travellers and international students. They're also down to 100 new cases/day so i'd expect earlier than April.

        they have opened to business travellers and students with visa and they still have to do 10 day quarantine . they just announced they will be doing there discount domestic travel thing again and will monitor the cases from those trips . the rumour is when they do start international travel next year it will be for fully monitored trips . so groups will fly in and picked up at airport and will be with a tour guide the whole time and staying away from locals with there hotel and restaurants . it wont be to spring until they allow travel with out quarantine . locals are saying it will most likely be after cherry blossum season as they wont want to effect domestic cash with another shutdown . there is a good reddit japan travel group that updates news every day

    Yeah currently you need to quarantine for 10 days on arrival

    Japan’s suspension on the entry of non-resident foreign nationals remains in place.

      Yes, currently you can’t. No one knows what the rules will be next year but at the same time I wouldn’t be booking for a holiday until there is more certainty.

      I’d love to go back again though.

    Also at this stage, to come back to Australia, you have to produce a negative PCR test prior to boarding any international flight. PCR test can cost as high as $300. And if you DO test positive then your return plans are in limbo as you may not be able to board the flight or have to go into quarantine.

    OP does this have free cancellation? it seems too risky to book a flight to Japan right now

      Depends on the search result, which agency you book through - each one has their own policies, so you'd have to check if it's mytrip, or flyfar or even ANA direct. Currently ANA direct has a notice about their policy, but obviously with covid, travel insurance is probably wise.

      Also a friend just went through 'quarantine' there, basically could stay in an airbnb and still go out to the supermarket etc if needed(!). Quite different to Aus/NZ quarantine!

        Ana let's you change without incurring a fee if the change is before 31 Dec 2021. No news as yet if the change is made after that date

        The above page only refers to changes/refunds only being permitted for travel prior to Oct 31 this year, so has already passed.

        However, there is this page which says there is currently no restriction, but who knows what will apply in future.

    So what happened if you got covid at the destination? Any insurance policy actually going to cover the cost of hospital + change of accommodation and flights?

    …what's considered a deal post-COVID sure is different.
    I just double-checked my direct flight ticket (that I had to cancel) with ANA for end of August 2020 was $680 return.
