As subscriptions are console-wide, you can just create a new account, pay $1 for a month, then turn off auto-renew.
Only thing you miss out on is the Gamepass quests. Plus you'll have to set that Xbox as your home console for the new account, to avoid having to stay logged in on it while playing on your main account.

Whether or not DLC is included varies heavily, it often isn't likely because the publisher is hoping people will buy them instead.

No, that's not how it works. Firstly they will not be taken off the Microsoft store, they just get removed from GamePass. If you have a game still installed after it is removed from GamePass it will be unplayable, you'll get a prompt telling you to buy it. You can only play the game while it's actively on GamePass. One thing of note however is that games published by Microsoft are unlikely to ever be removed from GamePass (eg. DOOM Eternal, Age of Empires 4, MS Flight Simulator).

Battlefield V is on game pass, but not BF2042. It's a newly released game by EA, they're not going to put a $60~80 title on Game Pass or EA play that soon.

This is what I did after purchasing $1/3mth sub…
Click the bargain link - Gamepass (top of screen) - overview - show all plans
Ultimate section said $1 for 1mth, then reverts to $15.95.
When purchased It converted over the whole 3mths sub to ultimate.
Then I went back to settings and turned off recurring subscription. ;)
@Pred8r: This is exactly what happened to me, I got the 3 months for $1, It then said 1 month Ultimate at $1 and then charged $15 going forward, but when I pay that $1 to upgrade to Ultimate it said the whole 3 months is now Ultimate.
Its telling me expiration date is 3/2/2022, I assume that is the American M/D/Y format and I have until the 2nd of March before this runs out?

Mine also expires on 2/1/22 but looking at some of my previously expired subscriptions (example 8/13/21) Indicates it's in US date format so it most likely really expires 1/2/22 which is 3 months.

I followed the steps in this guide however as I was an expired user and it would have cost me $15.95 to upgrade my live gold to game pass, I claimed this promo for $1 first before upgrading my live gold to GPU. That gave me three months of game pass regular and then when I upgraded my live gold to GPU for $15.95 it upgraded the 3 months game pass regular to ultimate too hence me getting 1yr+3 months of GPU.
I bought my Live gold from CDKeys using £GBP and the promo code 'BRAINS'. Dunno if it's the best price (there are a lot of options listed in the thread) but I am familiar with CDKeys hence my choice.
Only thing I am not sure about is how a new user would treat this promo. It costs $1/15.95 to upgrade your 1-3 years of live gold to ultimate based on whether you are a new or expired user, would getting this 3 month promo disqualify you as a new user? honestly don't know haha

I can never get these deals. My gamepass runs out on November 4th, I click the above link and it just wants to extend for 10.95 a month.
Cancel your sub, I just did and I was able to renew for $1 and the sub expires on the 8th of Feb.
On top of that, it even gave me a refund of $10.95 for the current month.
Almost as if you're a current member so why would they give you deals for inactive members? Check again in a few days.
