    • It says Phoenix controller on the listing, would would suggest the original model if accurate. The newer revision model has a Elpis controller.

  • I too would like an answer to nuker's question. I might actually cancel the order if it's the new one and if what nuker said is true

  • Any suggestions for a good SSD enclosure?

    • Had the same question! I am looking for something that’s going to take advantage of the speed of this ssd with a usb c and something not so fragile. Anybody can help please ?

    • I have many, from Orico and Simplecom. Orico is cheap, but plastic. The drive does get hot. My Simplecom is aluminium, seems to transfer more heat to the case, but the USB-NVMe control chip is not the best. My favourite is very expensive though. It is the Asus ROG Arion enclosure. It is a clamshell design, so you can use slightly thicker thermal pads to ensure it is in contact with the chips on the drive, compared to the rest which slide in or have sliding covers that you can't get good contact with the thermal pad.

I have had problem drives that did not work properly with Orico and Simplecom. The Asus worked with it fine, allowing me to repartition and reformat. After that, the drive started working fine with the Orico and Simplecom enclosures.

      • Does it transfer like claimed? 3300mbps? .. I read 40gbps enclosures.. but does your Asus one fast enough for this 970 evo plus?

        • +3

No it doesn't, because all USB 3.1 Gen2 enclosures only go up to about 1000 MB/s (10 gbps ports). The Asus one is only USB 3.1 and also maxes out at 1000 MB/s.

To go full speed, you need a Thunderbolt enclosure, and a desktop/laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 (40 gbps) or newer port.

If you want full speed, then you should get a Thunderbolt enclosure, like these ones. Note that Thunderbolt enclosures are VERY EXPENSIVE.

          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/114702848493

If you find those USB C Thunderbolt 3 compatible enclosures which are cheaper at about $80-90, those only run at USB 3.1 speeds. So make sure you double check!

          • @Sleepycat3: Great tips! Thank you for taking time answering my questions. I know what to look for now to DIY portable SSD enclosure.

          • @Sleepycat3: There are also gen 2 × 2 enclosures which offer 2000MBps transfer speed.

  • Will either of this fit Alienware 17 R4 ?

    • From what I understand, it comes with 1x 2280 slot filled, and there is a second 2280 slot which you can use this drive in, and a third smaller 2230 slot which is not compatible with this drive.

So check how many drives you currently have in your laptop.

  • +1

Hi Rep, when will you have stock of SATA Samsung 970 EVO 2TB ?

  • +2

I was about to pull the trigger but saw how negligible the results are vs a SATA SSD (maybe a second or two max). Doesn't seem very bargain-worthy when essentially the same performance can be have for $100 cheaper. Primarily for gaming anyway…

Am I missing anything? Clearly if games utilised this tech then it would be a no-brainer for that instant loading gaming experience.

    • How much is a 2TB SATA SSD?

    • +1

SATA drives are fine for gaming today.

Clearly if games utilised this tech then it would be a no-brainer for that instant loading gaming experience.

PS5 and XBoxX both do this, and the tech is on it's way to PC gaming - so there might be a need for an NVMe drive at some point. But not yet…

    • Thanks turna, i was about to do the same. My use case was 4 x in raid0 in a primary custom built nas running vsphere. Trying to fill a aorus pro z590 with 4 x 2tb nvme ssds with 4x10gbit links. This information does make a bit of a difference, enough to seriously make me reconsider.

The spreadsheet @nuker linked (https://www.techpowerup.com/286008/et-tu-samsung-samsung-too…) , if it is correct, shows a huge drop in performance and time for largish transfers.

Be interested to hear if anyone else was thinking of doing something similar and has any real world experience.

Yeh they're consumer grade but gotta find the best within budget.

      • +1

        4 x 2tb nvme ssds with 4x10gbit links

I would stick to none-SLC-cached drives if you actually need massive performance. They do cost more, but not a huge amount.

shows a huge drop in performance and time for largish transfers.

Do you actually do gigantic transfers ? SLC cache works fine as long as you don't exhaust it…

interested to hear if anyone else was thinking of doing something similar

I use 3 x 4GB 860 QVO Samsung drives in RAID0 as a 12GB storage drive, and it works absolutely fine - it's nowhere close to NVMe performance, but it's more than OK for gaming and general use 👍

    • Prob the fact it's NVMe & that it's getting to be the de-facto in PC's/laptops.

      For the majority, you're correct.

    • You might have just saved me either wasting money or a decent second drive. I thought these were 2.5" sata ssds but if I can get a larger capacity sata drive for my empty 2280 slot thats definately the play. Cheers.

Bought the 2TB. Can't go past that price. I was looking at a 980 Pro but would I even notice it? Probably not.

    • +1

I have the 1TB 980 Pro for the main, and now the 2TB 970 Evo Plus will be secondary storage, this will keep me going for years.

  • +2

Good price on the 2TB Evo+👍
WTF is this? An actual deal on ozbargain?!@ 🤣

  • I've been holding back for a while on storage - bought 3! This is going to fix my local storage issues on two boxes, and make LanCache great again (forget it on mechanical drives)

  • Nice

  • Good price for 2TB. Bough another one.

    • Thanks :)

  • Any adapter to go with it? Need to clone my 500gb drive to that

  • Good price!

I own an Alienware M15 R5. Wanting to add a 2nd SSD. I noticed that the spare slot does not have the mount bracket and heatshield. Is this normal for Alienware laptops? I contacted Dell tech support, was told that it doesn't come with the laptop and will need to purchase from Dell or from a 3rd party. I would have thought that Dell would be happy to provide the missing part.

Appreciate it if anyone has purchased the mount and heatshield for an 80mm M2 drive, could you please share the model/part# and which online retailer you purchased from.

    Thank you!

  • +2

A bit surprised that after over 1000 clicks and 162 up votes, it’s still in stock. Just wondering how many they have and why they want to clear all of them quickly.

    • +2

Their entire 970 EVO Plus range is on sale, could be a 980 Evo product launching…

  • +1

Got a 2Tb. Thanks OP and Ozb. Been waiting for a deal like this.

    • +1

      Thank you too :)

  • Any suggestion for a pci express card to get for this? My motherboard only has one m.2 slot that's already taken

    • +2

Any PCIe to NVMe M.2 riser card will work with this. I used the cheapest one from eBay and it works.

Cheapest but requires a 4x electrical 16x physical length slot: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/124120521455
My preferred because it has slots to use in 4x electrical 4x physical slots. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/402752143156

      • Cheers, so the idea is that you leave your graphics card in the 16x and use one of these cards in the 8x or 4x. My understanding is that the graphics card will drop to the 8x?

  • @storerep… my problem is I did contact the store & customer service & was given a poor response…

Seems that BPC was more interested in New Sales & not a sale that had already been paid for…hence why I was told my pc would sit there for a week before you would look at it as you were busy with NEW Builds.

The PC Clearly was not tested properly by the builder before I collected personally from your store which is over an hour away.

You have lost my business as this was a present for my son.

    • Hi ThePunchingBag,

We really appreciate your reply to us.

My father bought most of my electronics when I was a kid, so I totally understand your frustration.

First plz let me know if the RGB Driver issue has been fixed or not? We gave you some recommendations under the other post, and we are happy to help if the RGB Sync still does not work.

But we still hope you could talk to our FB Team or through private chat and share your order number with us. Therefore we can look into your order, also prepare another gift for your son for free.

No matter how the future goes, we still want you and your son to be happy, and we are willing to try our best to achieve that.

      Sincerely,
      BPC Team

  • Cant see anything about the free shipping , when i take it to the cart to finalize it wants me to choose shipping fee … what am i doing wrong ?

    • +1

      Hi SOVIETIV,

There should be a free-shipping option once you input your detailed address.

      Regards
      BPC Team

      • +2

Yep. Free shipping option was there for me; one of the lower options on the list.

  • Bugga no Paypal option :(

  • When is the delivery time? 2 weeks?

    • +1

      Hi Ystraw,

We expect to deliver VIC orders within 3-5 business days.

As for other states, plz expect at least 5 business days.

      Regards
      BPC Team

      • Thanks, ordered

  • Can anyone confirm if either the 1TB or 2TB works with G15 5515 from this deal?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/658770

  • Hi OP.. Great deal. I ordered this morning (10ish) but i got an email around lunch saying it’s been cancelled.. I sent a query via email, yet I haven’t received a response from your end when i asked the reason for the cancellation.

  • Can anyone recommend a decent heatsink for this please? Thanks!

  • Thanks OP, my friends and I bought 2TB Evo. Great price.

  • Great deal, ordered, thanks!

  • +1

Ordered, hoping its dispatched to NSW soon and Australia Post get their S!@# into gear .

      • +2

my bad it is a good deal

  • 970 evo plus VS 980(posted below, not 980pro)?
    cheaper is better!!!

    • cheaper is better!!!

Nope… 970 EVO Plus is the superior drive, and also comes with Far Cry 6 (worth $40+).

  • I assume this are versions that have lower performance than the original due to part swaps?

    • Not lower performance at all if you are transferring files that are less than ~115 GB. Bit of a misconception about the part swaps for the average user

    • +1

The performance of both versions are absolutely fine for "normal" users.

  • Hello, I placed an order 2 days ago but have not received any email confirmation and upon making an account, not showing up in orders

    • Hi ThePriceIsNotRight ,

We expect the 3-5 business days shipment for VIC.

5-15 business days for other states.

      Regards,
      BPC Team

  • Also purchased yesterday yet still stuck at Processing any chance of being posted soon?

  • +1

Mine was just posted - but through Fastway so wish me luck!!

  • These guys are pretty good i had a couple of questions they weren't sure with. James took the time to check with his colleagues. They offer a decent return policy. Ordered 3 .

These guys deliver fast and have some good prices. burnt about 3k with them the last month.

    Thumbs up

  • +1

Did anyone get there shipped in NSW yet?

    • Just got the tracking and shipped by AusPost, lucky me

  • My order is being shipped by a courier called "SF Express".
Are these orders being shipped from outside Australia?

    • +2

      Hi Shoey,

SF Express recently launched in Mel & Syd Metro, BPC is their core partner.

They aim at providing express speed with standard cost.

      So not shipping overseas :)

      Regards
      BPC Team

    • Looks like its Chinese platform. But got my order arrived…
Only issue is with the packing. NUC was wrapped with
1 - single layer bubble wrap.
2 - thin layer of black plastic

Arrived and corners of the NUC already dented. Lucky that the intel box is study.

Good luck for those that ordered the SSD!

  • Dos this Drive have the Write Bug ?

  • +2

I just received my 2TB 970 EVO Plus. For anyone interested, I got an older model drive (horizontal packaging) with the Phoenix controller (Production date 2021-09-01).

I know there's a lot of scare around Samsung swapping components but IMO it's a bit of a non-issue for these drives. They could have called the Elpis drives the 975 EVO Plus or something but I genuinely believe only a tiny, tiny fraction of customers will be worse off with the newer drive, and the vast majority will either be better off or see no change.

The newer drives using the Elpis controller appear to have much more SLC cache (115 GB vs 48 GB on the 1TB model, the 2TB Phoenix model should therefore have <=96GB of SLC cache, unsure on the 2TB Elpis), which means faster sustained write speeds if writing within the cache. Where the 1TB Phoenix model will slow from ~2600 MB/s to ~1500 MB/s after 48GB of writes, the 1TB Elpis model will maintain that higher speed through until 115GB of writes.

If you run out of SLC cache, the native-to-TLC performance of the newer NAND flash on the Elpis model is worse due to it being higher density - the 1TB model loses around 45-50% of its write performance speed after running out of cache (Elpis ~800 MB/s vs Phoenix ~1500 MB/s). The 2TB model may not be affected by this as heavily due to needing more NAND flash chips to make up the capacity, which improves parallel write performance.

Put another way, the 1TB Elpis drive will almost always be faster if writing more than 48GB, but less than 115GB at once. The 1TB Phoenix drive will only be faster if your transfer is well in excess of 115GB, as you need a long while for the Phoenix drive's faster native TLC rate to catch up to the Elpis drive which has raced ahead with its larger SLC cache. It's entirely possible that the 2TB Elpis drive is a straight upgrade over the 2TB Phoenix drive, but that depends on cache size, and the above would still apply as a general rule of thumb regardless.

    • Everything’s fine except the controller’s temperature would reached 100.

"Put another way, the 1TB Elpis drive will almost always be faster if writing more than 48GB, but less than 115GB at once."
Note the cache is dynamic. The cache size is dependent on the amount of space used on the drive. The drive(s) will always have at least 6GB of cache.

You'd really want the phoenix controller unless you're using it for a boot drive and not in an airflow restricted space.

      • So using the Phoenix one in a laptop as my OS drive isn't going to be ideal…

  • Whats a Good alternative to this Drive in the Same Price Bracket ?

Anyone else getting an Invalid "SN/IMEI" when trying to redeem the Farcry 6 promo? I am using the SN on the physical SSD not the box which is missing one letter

    • Yep same here

    • +1

I didn't even get an invoice.

      • Same here I sent BPC an email about it and they replied with the invoice.

    • +2

I contacted Samsung and they said to email [email protected]

It seems to be a long-running issue with their promotions as I have found previous forum posts about similar issues.
      https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/computers-it/invalid-ser…

    • I had the same issue and contacted them on Saturday. I only got a response that they were looking at it late yesterday, but nothing yet on my end.

      • +1

For reference, after contacting [email protected], it took from the 6th of November until the 12th of November before I got a response back, so expect around a week before getting a response back. I did get a couple of response emails on the 9th and the 11th, just giving an update that they have seen the issue. Hopefully this info is helpful.

    • Hi Guys,

We would recommend you to contact Samsung support Line:1300362603.

We have already contacted Samsung regarding this issue. Hopefully, they can resolve this issue asap.

      Regards,
      BPC Team

      • They just got back to me and asked for the S/N and fixed the issue. The only thing is that customers aren't sent a clear invoice which states what they have purchased.

        • Good to know :)

If you haven't received your invoice, send your order number through private chat, and we will send one for you.

          Regards,
          BPC Team

  • Just got my 2TB today :)

Although I got no purchase receipt. Has anybody got a Receipt with their order either enclosed with the order or via email?

    • I just print to pdf the order confirmation and sent it along to Samsung so we'll see if they accept it

      • Yeah they accepted it just fine

    • I emailed BPC and they sent me a PDF one.

  • +1

Having the same issue with the, invalid S/N emailed then and how i get a reply soon. 2tb 970

  • Same issue invalid SN. Sent an email to [email protected] will see how long they take to come back to me.

  • I'm having issues trying to enter my product info for the Far Cry 6 promo, anyone else running into the same issue with the Serial Number being invalid?

  • I also had an invalid SN issue. Emailed Samsung's promo email that same night (two nights ago) and had a response yesterday morning to take a picture of the SN on the product or screenshot from Samsung Magician software. Did that and had acknowledgement the same afternoon and that they will be looking into it. Just waiting for them to get back to me now.
