  • Can existing telstra customers use this deal??

    • +8

you can, just port in with a new number from other than Telstra network's providers (like Voda, Optus, etc), then contact Telstra to cancel current plan and transfer old number onto new plan to replace that new number

      • This. Done it plenty of times.

  • I have no luck, existing number with boost. Decided to opt for new number this morning…had a chat with Telstra online, unable to port my number over to replace my new number. Any advice on this? Thank you in advance…

    • +8

Ask again with a different rep…

      • Cheers bud!

    • +4

keep asking, eventually there would be a helpful rep :)

      • Thanks mate! Will keep trying…

    • +1

Pretty sure Telstra have stopped allowing this to happen since early October.
Many friends have encountered point blank rejections and store staff told him a new policy was implemented

      • Someone said this worked for them recently on the jb thread… (sorry i dont know how to link comments)

      • +1

Worked for me. Just did it

        • Worked for me. Just did it

but can we remember to do it again?

Edit: Thought I would try again just to make sure I can repeat and had to read over instructions again,

hopefully after doing a few times will become second nature.

    • +3

Port your current number to a $2 Optus sim and then ask them to port it to Telstra. Can't confirm in your situation but moving from Boost to Telstra before this was the simplest option and I did it all in two hours with the port in to and out of Optus.

  • Is definitely do-able aye? Was advised unless I terminate my new contract…doesnt sound right to me.

    • +1

it is doable, and no, you don't have to cancel new contract except old one and keep old number to replace new one

  • How does the $30 credit work? do you basically pay $69 a month?

    • Yes indeed, did it with Jb this arvo.. 69 per month

    • +2

automatically, reason for them to do this is to charge you more in case of early termination :)

      • How much is early termination usually?

        • +1

Depends how early you want to terminate

        • +1

now way of charging is Telstra plan cost per month x remaining months + bonus you get x remaining months = heaps. if you decide to sign this promo, better not do ET lol

      • +2

Also to catch people out at the end of 12 months when it goes back up to $99 per month. You’ve got to change plans very promptly or you’ll get stung

  • OK so I got a 20 FE with $89 per month 12 months all up 150 GB.
The above plan is ok but I am waiting for the release of the 22s when this might hit again.
I got my phone last Nov fwiw @ JB.

    • +3

plan like this always comes and goes, just wait for what is right for you :)

      • +1

I hope the 22's would have expandable storage. Thought they would have learned after removing it from the S6 and then reintroducing it with the S7

  • Anyone know if the data is shareable?

    • Apparently its not

  • So to confirm is this like paying $328 for 150gb data per month for a year?

    • +4

Only if you value a $500 TGG gift card as cash.

      • 500 takes 5% off sounds right.
        353 for 12 months
        ~30 a month

        • +2

If I had the choice of either getting $450 in cash or a $500 gift card, I would have gone for the cash straight away.

          • @bozbargain: Me too but they would t let you have a Choice hahah

          • +1

@bozbargain: There is a site voucha.com.au that buys gift cards… Never used them though

  • Does anybody know when the promotion ends?

  • Did that instore yesterday, since I have no need for a new phone (can't justify replacing my S20 Plus 5G). And my fridge and washing machine are on their way out :D.

Still waiting for the port to be completed but already got the welcome message from Telstra.

Do we know how long it took for Telstra to complete the porting process from Vodafone?

  • -1

Hey is it 150gb for the year… Or $150gb each month?

    • +1

      Per month

  • +1

Currently with Telstra from last years $69/m + $500 GC deal, thinking of porting to Aldi and then back to Telstra again.

I did this last year and was blocked from doing it on the same day, I had to wait an entire month until my last bill was processed. What's the go? Do I have to wait a whole month again?

I have a $50 early termination charge for exiting today but I feel it's worth it to not miss this deal again.

    • +1

It's hit and miss. You could try another tgg or JB store.

    • +1

Me to, I've already pre-paid my final month which finishes on 20th Nov.
I think you usually have to have been away for 30 days though so I'm planning on switching to Amaysim a couple days before it expires and hopefully this deal will pop up at JBHiFi before Christmas. If I could get it as an existing customer they'd have a ready made sale.

    • Aldi is telstra MVNO, do keep that in mind.

  • +1

Do we reckon the $59 will come back

    • It appears as though they've stopped doing the $10 credit automatically although many people are having success getting it applied via Telstra chat. I've been keeping an eye out but I'd pay the extra $10 to increase my data from 80GB to 150GB per month. I prefer watching HD video anyway lol

      • +1

Hd "video".. Yes I understand 🤔😉😉

  • I took up one of these plans from JB about a year ago and bought my iphone 12 handset outright in store with the vouchers. I have my doubts but can I re-contract with Telstra per their New Phone Feeling policy and pick up an iphone 13? Normally if you're a Telstra customer under contract, you can pay a fee of around $150 to hand in your existing handset after a year and get the latest one, but the only catch is that you have to start a new 2 year contract. Just wondering if there might be different eligibility rules for handset replacement if you take up one of these plans?

  • +2

Has anyone ported out and then ported back in on the same day this year with success? I know it's possible in the past, but not sure if it is anymore. Will go through it today if possible.

  • Anyone know if it's all for use inside Australia? No international call or data credit? Can I at least receive calls and texts overseas?

    • For such an expensive plan it's ridiculous it doesn't have international calling. Even my $20 Optus plan had free calls to NZ at least.

Charge a lot for roaming too.

      • I agree it’s ridiculous - these plans only exist because of the vouchers they give on top. It’s a great plan to expense claim though and 5G is nice to have. Even my amaysim 6 month expiry plan (that cost me $25 after cashback) had international calls included to 40+ countries.

    • Telstra VoLTE and Wifi calling does work overseas. So you can still make/receive calls and send/receive texts to/from Australia numbers.

      • You will be be charged International Roaming rates even if you were connected to Wifi Calling

A possible workaround might be to connect to a Wifi with AU VPN)

        • Don't think so, they say it's free. Even Telstra prepaid can do it, as well as Boost (basically prepaid).

          • +1

@hawkeye93: I tried with Boost in June 2020 and Wifi Calling did not not work overseas.

Unless Telstra changed it this year but my comments are based on my experience last year.

            • +1

@utsc: Not sure when it changed but some guys on Whirlpool confirmed that while being in USA this year.

  • +1

Anybody tried this on phone instead of in-store?

    • +1

If it's still the same as last year you can usually do this over the phone with JBHiFi but you can't with TGGs I'm not sure who TGGs don't offer it on the phone but that's the way it was last year when I was trying to sign up. Try calling JB and see if they are currently offering the same deal (I'm pretty sure they are at least they were yesterday)

  • Good, but still not as good as the $600 (5G modem) + 300GB for $69 PM for 12 months JB deal .. Will JB do it again? 🤔

    • Was that data only or calls too

  • 99$ with 30$ credit…meanings it's actually 69$/month?

  • i will wait for next year, hopefully they have that deal again for $1200 gift card for a year contract for $99 a month.

    • $1200 off a phone or $1200 GC? Has never seen that deal posted here.

    • Don't think that deal has ever existed? I thought all the 1200 GC were for 24m contracts

  • Yes I am hoping this deal comes back again before the end of the year https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/641157?page=2
