NetGear Nighthawk M5 5G Mobile Router $545.88 (Was $695.88) Delivered When Purchased with a Plan @ Telstra

100

$150 off offer for the Nighthawk M5 5G Mobile Router when you buy it with a month-to-month data plan.

The discount did not show up at check out so I chatted online with Telstra. They said that the discount will be credited on the second bill.

As for 5G data plan, there is a $10/month discount for 12 months on Telstra top Large data plan. Effectively $75/month for 400GB, unlimited speed. People I know with Telstra 5G broadband, said they get around 500Mbps, that's 2.5 times faster than Superfast NBN!
Compare that to:

  • Optus 5G unlimited speed, unlimited data $89.
  • Vodafone 5G unlimited speed, unlimited data $85.

Consider that the average household internet usage is 344GB/month, Telstra 400GB limit should be more than enough. Those with too much data from the JB Hifi/TGG Telstra mobile plan deals, can combine their excess mobile data with their broadband plan on the same account.

  • Got mine for free on a 12 month $69 (less $10 so $59) pm Plan with 150gb from Telstra at JB. It's an awesome unit and so much better than NBN.

    • Is this with the 500 gift card promo currently running?

      • It was a similar deal. It is a data only plan where you either got $500 or the device.

    • what normal download and upload speeds do you get?

      • I'm hitting 250mbps download but it will depend on your area. I've had it as fast as 440mbps.

    • Got mine for free on a 12 month $69 (less $10 so $59) pm Plan with 150gb from Telstra at JB.

Are you sure it’s not a Telstra wifi Pro (ZTE)? I sometimes saw it included free via JB or TGG on their 150gb/$69pm 24 months contract plan.

OP is Netgear M5, no contract.

    • Don’t believe it is the very expensive m5

    • Is this stil available? In Vic?

Telstra is the only 5G provider to actually supply you with an IPv6 address.

Everyone else gives you IPv4 CGNAT.

    • does that mean you can port forward?

      • No incoming connections on IPv4 CGNAT or IPv6.

Use a VPN to get back or some other cloud based solution.

      • I believe you can get a public IP (for port forwarding etc..) with Telstra small business connections (which anyone with an ABN can get). The small business plans have the same data allowances and prices.

    Another private sector rip off.

Wasn’t tit mentioned somewhere that the recent job hifi deals couldn’t pool with other Telstra services?

Also the 400 go plan has until last week been $65 a month. I’m guessing that the $10 discount per month drops it from $75 to $65 pm?

    • I’ve been on the plan for 2 months, it was $85 per month back then, not $75. The promo on offer now is $75.

    • Also the 400 go plan has until last week been $65 a month

I have been looking at this plan for a while, have not seen it at $65pm before.

    • Edit sorry it was 180 gh, my Optus one at 65 was 400gb

    • Wasn’t tit mentioned somewhere that the recent job hifi deals couldn’t pool with other Telstra services?

No, JB plans cannot data share with normal Telstra plans (I was on a JB plan until few days ago, and I have other Telsra services)
The 400GB Telstra plan is normally $85, but right now you have $10 off making it $75, that $10 off promo comes every now and then, but I have never seen it at $65 (I am keeping an eye on that plan because I am currently on it).

Had this modem since early this year. IMHO its worth the features you get
    Pros

    • Unlocked and supports all local 3G, 4G and sub 6-5G bands (but need to enable some of the non-Telstra bands via telnet)
    • Can lock to specific bands (this is quite useful in congested or rural areas where certain bands, especially the lower frequency bands are more saturated than others)
    • Gigabit ethernet port (let you connect a mesh router/home network to extend the network connection beyond the built-in wifi radio)
    • Battery operated for mobility (but can run without the battery as a desktop modem and save the battery for when you need it )
    • Good speeds (I get 5~600Mbps on Telstra 5G at home but I've clocked 1Gbps next to my closest tower) and very stable.
    • Wifi 6
    • Good resale value (even the now few years old M2 is selling for over $200 on eBay)

    Cons

    • No mmWave support, but I don't think this is a concern for most suburban and rural customers because mmWave will take at least 5 more years (if at all ever) to expand beyond major CBDs.
    • IP passthrough mode has some bugs (but you can use the standard router mode to get full speed via the ethernet port, the only issue with this is you'll have another NAT, but then again all retail MBB connections are behind a CGNAT so one more NAT is not going to make a difference)
    • Need to use telnet/command prompt to access some of the advanced features
  • I can only see Backorder only?

    • Yes, looks like the deal has ended. I can only backorder as well, and price is now back to $696.

      • No, it has not ended and does not show on the normal product page or checkout. It shows up on the deals page per Op’s link. I chatted online with Telstra about it. They said that the discount will be credited on the second bill.
I’d take screen shot of the deals page for proof just in case.

  • Anyone heard of netgear releasing an mmWave version? Optus is releasing mmWave in Sydney (inner city suburbs)
