REFURBISHED, but have past good experience for Dell refurbished monitors which I've bought years ago and still works very well.

  • I paid $445 for brand new, refurbished from Dell this seems like a good price. It's a very good monitor, the colours are oversaturated by default and HDR makes everything look washed out but with some tuning it's a great 165hz monitor using LGs technology. I use the two USB ports on the back to power some LED strip lights.

    • +4

How did you tune it? I agree with the whole HDR thing making the colours look washed out, so I've left it at SDR

    • Can send you my displaycal calibrated file if I can find it

      • +5

        https://easyupload.io/ifmyrv

DisplayCAL calibrated file. Note this is for my particular monitor calibrated with a SpyderX Pro. Each screen can vary

        • +1

Do you just Download DisplayCal and throw that file in the folder??

          • @Cliffy93: Yep, just load whatever profile you want/have. I think Rtings also have one uploaded too

        • hey mate, ive downloaded displaycal and installed your file, and ive noticed that my screen does look better for most part but my blacks has become more grey, how can i adjust this?, im not very knowledgeable in this area so im just trying to understand ahah, thanks in advanced mate!

          • +1

            @Toffcuz: @Toffcuz

I am not an expert as well and had the same issue you described when I used the screen on gaming mode. When watching youtube/movies the blacks would look just grey.

So I just switched back to standard mode and it's been like this ever since. I might give the DisplayCAL file when I get home later from work.

          • +1

@Toffcuz: Mine aren't like that it seems.

Brightness 75%, Contrast 75%, Smart HDR off, Dark Stabilizer 1 (play with this maybe?)
I can't remember if I ever changed anything pre calibrating. I've got mine set to Custom.

            Not backlight bleed?

    • Agreed. I just bought it brand new. The settings i find are very good for movies and games. Text in games can look a bit shit though.

Can regularly get it for $399 brand new. Not a deal for me personally

    • +1

Isn't there a really long wait on brand new models though? I assume these would be ready to ship.

      • +1

yeah this would be save 20 bucks and available. rather than wait for the new ones to be made and shipped.

      • +4

I bought one from their eBay store a month or two ago, and got it within a week. Ymmv though

        • Also just want to chuck in my experience - ordered 21st sep, was advised deliver 5th nov, received it 5th October.

          • +1

@chul00p4: Took me approx 2 weeks to receive mine, despite being told 4-8 weeks. The estimates seem to be very conservative.

            • @Schmiddler: Took about 3 weeks for mine to come around April, but a mate ordered one as well and he's been waiting for about 7 weeks now.

        • I bought a cheaper dell monitor (not this model) from ebay store on 4th sep. still waiting. 1.5months and still waiting. I contacted them and confirmed it was still 'in progress'

      • +3

Can't speak for others, but for me:
        Ordered 21/09
        ETA 05/11
        Delivered 30/09

      • +1

In the EOFY sale I ordered 30/05 and received 16/06. That was $359 brand new.

      • I bought a S3221QS from their outlet the other week and got it in 2 days through private courier so seems pretty good.

    • +3

Not a deal? That's a whole lotta monitor for the money, I think it might even be a historic low (or at least very near that, it may have dipped to like 365 at one point but that was very rare with stacked promos).

      To each their own 🚀

Are these 'fully' refurbished in a cosmetic sense in that, if the external casing has scratching it is replaced; or are they faulty units that have the internals repaired, keeping the same original casing?

    • +3

This is from the Dell site:

There are three types of products for you to choose from:
New & Unused Certified Refurbished Scratch & Dent

      These are refurb so:

Certified refurbished products are previously opened/used products. These products are submitted to a rigorous refurbishing process to achieve the highest quality and performance standards. Products may have some observable cosmetic blemishes that do not affect performance.

I bought one a while back, it was a refurb but looked brand new, YMMV. Dell have a pretty good rep for their refurbs.

      • Sounds alright, thank you.

    • Way back, a company I worked for gave me a work laptop that's Dell refurbished. It had an issue with the DVD Rom and the LCD screen had a slight issue. Based on that experience, I've decided not to purchase any Dell refurbished product.

I generally don't like refurbished products because there is too much luck involved. Even Apple ones aren't as good as people indicate. My mate's iPhone replacement unit had the battery expanded / breaking the back of the phone after close to 1 year (sure Apple did replace it again). The iPod Touch I had replaced years ago, while generally okay, had a firmware upgrade which slowed it down so much, if I had a choice, I would have kept my old one with a problematic home button.

  • Damn! I really want this monitor because I missed them on the last sale but very hard to justify buying a refurbished one for only $20 discount over that previous deal. Fingers crossed for another deal on brand new ones very soon!

  • My son got this one recently and it looks brand new got it within a week very good for the price given it is an IPS panel and refresh rate and also G sync via displayport and 3 year warranty

    • 3 years? Did this change recently? I remember it used to be 1 year for refurb.

      • 3Yr Advanced Exchange Service Warranty is advertised on this one.

  • +1

That's my ebay returned one after failing to turn on. Purchased from at $399. Expecting a replacement for the returned one.

  • +1

got mine for $379 brand new

  • Got one, thanks OP. Comes with a dell 3 years advanced exchange service which sealed it as a buy for me.

  • Bought 2 DGF monitors within the last 6 months and wanted to let you know that I had an issue with the monitors going to Deep Sleep mode on its own.

The blacklight goes off permanently and you need to do a hard reset of the monitors via the method below.

    https://www.dell.com/community/Monitors/S2716DG-black-screen…

    • It's all the USBs you've plugged in.

      • true had a monitor led plugged in.

        now removed!

  • Not a good deal.

Wait to get a brand new one for an extra $25.

Dell go on sale allll the time.

  • Got one, thanks OP!

Good experience hey? I bought a Dell S2722QC from here on an eBay deal and new too. Ever since changing to that monitor, my eyes have been straining. Sure, you have to look after your eyes taking the appropriate health advice but, comparing to my Samsung monitor I had no eye strain! FYI Dell raves about this model's strong capabilities to reduce eye strain! And I'm getting eye strain! Regardless reducing brightness and contrast, and room lighting and distance. Everything that my previous monitor already has.

    • why are you commenting about getting eye strain on a completely different model?

      • -2

Just an fyi. Buyer beware on eBay.

        • +1

but it's not really 'buyer beware' when it comes to eye strain right? some people get it, some people don't. it's a completely personal issue.

          • -3

@USH4NKA: Hmm..yeah im still confused tho. How come Dell model monitor but not my other Samsung? How come this one when it's the model that have the features equipped for eye strain?

            • @PeeDee:

Is it because your old monitor was not 4K reso @ 27" (S2722QC)?

What resolution + size is your Samsung?

My eyeballs got strained when I first moved from 720p (15") to 1080p (24"), then when moved to 1440p 25" they also got strained for around two weeks while my eyes adjusted (obviously because I'm a low resolution pleb)

They always get strained when I play on console on a 4K 65"~ TV (I'm not a console gamer normally)

you have to look after your eyes taking the appropriate health advice

Disclosure: I work for Dell EMC not Dell, and definitely am not an official Dell store rep, so I can't help anyone in an official capacity either (sort of like working for Big W but commenting on Woolworths posts)

              • -2

                @cwongtech: I've had the monitor since the start of September and it's still causing eye strain. Yep my Samsung wasn't 4k. It's a 24inch, 1920 x 1080, 60Hz monitor

Lol I talk like Glady? Haha

It's unusual cause the monitor features help with eye strain.

            • @PeeDee: again, this is not the same monitor you say you have. This is a 1440p gaming monitor, you say you have the 4k office monitor.

              • -3

@USH4NKA: Hey, yeah I'm aware. Just subtly sliding in and talking about my monitor.

            • @PeeDee: Which Samsung monitor?

For Dell S2722QC, is display scaling used? If yes, what's the scaling ratio used? I am quite interested to know more about the issue.

              • @netsurfer: Great! Glad I've caught someone's curiosity haha How come though? Hope you read all my comments. Do you have it too?

                Samsung SynsMaster BX2450

The Dell display is all default. To fit. Cant remember from memory cause my PC is stuffed atm. Just know setting is default should be online somewhere.

                • +1

@PeeDee: Okay, assuming it is Windows 10 or Windows 11, S2722QC defaults to 150% scaling mode (which is roughly 1440p like).

The reality is that 1080p at 24 inch is easier on the eyes than 1440p on 27 inch, even with the text smoothing due to scaling can achieve 'retina display' like. However, to me, that result is somewhat mixed. On slightly larger text, that smoothing is nice. On smaller text, that 1:1.5 ratio doesn't always work out to make it easier to read (I am comparing a 27 inch 2K vs 4K).

One way around it is to dial up the resolution scaling to 175%, but you lose some Windows workspace doing so. This is a slightly complicated issue. Looking at sharper, but smaller texts don't necessary translate to less eye strain, especially on slightly older people. For me, 2K resolution on 27 inch gives me sufficient workspace so it is more pleasant to work with, but 1080p easier on the eyes.

Thing is, a lot of OZBers are younger people and they have good eye sights, so they will probably prefer the retina look for now. As they get older, that will gradually change.

                  • @netsurfer: Hey, thanks. I think we gotta move our conversation over DM, cause someone's not liking me talking here lol it's getting out of topic 😅 touch base soon.

    • Blaming Dell for your genetically inferior eyesight?

      • We are troubleshooting we Dell, could be hardware problem? Not sure still troubleshooting. Like I say, it's unusual particularly coming from a model that has a feature on eye strain capabilities.

  • Cheers OP, i got the Dell 32 Curved Gaming Monitor - S3222DGM for $389.00

  • thanks OP!

  • Damn dell .. where are your decent 32" IPS monitors ?

  • Thanks, I'd grabbed one earlier today as I could not be bothered waiting for them to go on sale.

I wouldn't get reburbished from another outlet, but this seems safe.

    • Its all over the comments that its an IPS panel.
