I've been waiting for a deal on this printer, this seems like a pretty darn good price for AU stock.

They are not literally countless…
@jv: Depends on how good at counting you are I guess
What are people 3D printing? I always think they are awesome but can never think of anything to print to justify buying one

Spend a few hours learning fusion360 and you can design your own solutions pretty quickly
This is a pretty cool thread.
I have experience in sketchup, can that be used in place of fusion360?[edit] No, it cannot. I checked
if you're already familiar with sketchup, it shouldn't take you too long to pick up fusion360 or Onshape
both are free for hobbyists
I print anything I can think of. Since I got into 3D printing I got into 3D modelling as well. Can now design a part from scratch and have it printed all in the same day. Great for small projects. The other day I needed a small bracket for a door sensor so I modelled it within a few minutes and printed it in another twenty.
I've only just started to getting into maker hobbies. But I am remaking this using addressable RGB's and 3D printing the case.

Plan on making other little electronics projects and gifts for family etc.
Would this be a nice gift for a 10 year old kid :)
Not if they're expecting a PS5
Great gift for a 10yo. Thingiverse is a great place to get free designs to learn the printing aspect. Cura is a great free program to slice those designs for printing. If they're not already learning cad in primary school then tinkercad is a perfect free web based program to start designing.
I would say 'no', unless they're an exceptional 10 year old with an exceptional amount of focus.. I mean like autistic level of focus.
I can remember being 10, and no way would I have had the patience to do things like test prints. Like with toy microscopes and $20 telescopes, there's the initial excitement at the possibilities of doing things only seen on TV, but the reality of 4 hours of tinkering because it's not working just right kills the joy and replaces it with boredom.
Worse, it acts as a disincentive to try again when theyre older, because 'I tried that before, x is shit'Something like this would require an adult to do most of the heavy lifting, so the kids can just pick things to print. And then maybe you ease them into the tinkering side of things with small upgrades here and there.
With the amount of troubleshoot you have to do to get an acceptable print, I don't think so unless you do all the printing part yourself which defeats the purpose of a gift. Better get your child a 3D pen, it's much more fun for kid.
I'd say no, at least not without adult supervision. Involves a lot of tinkering, and heating elements that can be dangerous especially if there's a hardware or firmware fault.
I think 16 would be the minimum, just due to the tinkering it requires to get it right. There are some better (more expensive) ones that are a bit more set and forget that would be better suited to under 16. But even then, 10 is too young imho.
Been waiting for this to go on sale. Thank you, OP.
Where's our resident 3D printer guru? Calling @pinchies
Is this a good deal?Is this a good deal?
Yes
I've been doing a lot of research recently and literally just setup an alert for this printer a few days ago. This is absolutely the best price I've see around. Always rates really high on best budget 3D printers.
Yes. I bought it at $320 6 months ago, and that was a fantastic price for it.
This is either the cheapest, or within 5% of being the cheapest.
ca1ypso has previously done a breakdown of the different models.
The only major differences between the V1 Ender 3 and Ender 3 Pro are that the pro includes;
- A magnetic bed (meaning that it's 'easier' to remove prints.)
- A meanwell power supply (this is a name brand power supply which usually means it 'can be' safer, and is quieter - compared to the regular generic unit)The Ender 3 V2 was essentially an update that put all the community modifications people made to the V1 and had them come stock, from the factory. This is mostly a time saving/ease of use factor and includes upgrades such as;
A 32bit mainboard that runs quieter and more efficiently compared to the previous 8bit mainboard. This also comes with other benefits such as the ability to update firmware easier
A 'fancy' colour screen
A glass bed
Belt tensionersOverall, this means that the Ender 3 V2 is usually a more enjoyable out of box experience. However, if you're someone that dosen't mind tinkering (upgrading your printer is half the hobby) then I would say that the V1 is a better option. This is because it is cheaper, and you can buy the upgrades as you see fit. I've included some examples below.
SKR Mini E3 (A 32bit plug-in replacement mainboard that is arguably better than the one in the V2)
You can buy the 'official' glassbed seperately yourself
Printable upgrades (Tool box, belt tensioners, extruder knob etc)
BL-Touch (A probe that you can install and it will level your bed for you, instead of you doing it manually every print)Also, all recent Ender 3 Pro ship with a 32 bit board, 4.2.2. Its not silent like the V2's 4.2.7, but much better than the old 8bit it use to ship with.
also consider changing to a 0.8mm nozzle after getting familiar with your printer
larger prints take half the time, you will just have larger layer lines around 0.6mm compared to 0.2mm
I literally just setup an alert for this the other day thinking I was going to have to wait forever for a deal to pop up and then here you are! Thanks @Jooniar!
Of course the day after mine arrives, this deal comes out. Oh well.
However after one night of setting it up and running the test print, my entire family are stupidly excited about what they can do. I know when I go home today I'm going to be presented with a rather large list of things they want printed. Took a little while to put together (carefully) however you do get an appreciation and better understanding of how it works by piecing it together
Also grab yourself a 1kg filament roll asap if you're buying this too - it'll help if you're presented with a big list like I am, the 60gms or so that comes with it won't last too long..
Terrifchoice has decent pricing on Sunlu PLA+ $27.50 for 1kg roll
not too many colours in stock at the moment, but order 3 rolls of any colour and get 25% off the third, so $25 a roll.

or the current Flashforge deal
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/650479Get yourself one of the metal extruder asap 🙂
Heh, I got bitten by that one, I was getting this annoying wall separation, looked like under extrusion, but everything was calibrated, couldn't figure it out until I noticed the blue extruder knob stopping intermittently - cracked plastic arm in extruder.
With no real research or knowledge on this, is the Ender 5 from same seller an better option, any drawbacks? Approx $30 more.
I can see you get another 8cm of height. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/254021373521PS: For anyone that missed out, their other listing is still in stock
it's also o/s now
Looks like they pulled stock, was 10 available at time of commenting.
No it's not.
Very happy that i missed this deal, i don’t need one but like other deals it was very tempting. I always end up buying so many things my FOMO, waiting for pandemic to be over and someone can build a vaccine for FOMO, will be first in line to get vaccinated.
Anybody have tips to level the bed? I also got the BLTouch, but finding it really hard to sort it out.
i just started myself , get cheps levelling gcode off hes channel and it easy as. i was going to get a bltouch and wont now.
Great starter printer. Heaps of resources and groups available online for support, including some great guides on YouTube channels.
Might not be the best machine, but still very capable and good to 'learn the ropes' on.
