    Damn.. these bonuses are crazy

    • +56

      The rrp's are also crazy

  • Can't see $800 trade in bonus, only said $300

    EDIT:
    Saw it now

  • What's the go about returning the trade-in device? I haven't been following the previous threads but I vaguely remember reading in the comments that Samsung didn't care if you returned the device in the end or not?

    • +9

No one got charged the bonus value for not returning the phone.

        • +31

Rubbish. The contract is very clear that you will only be charged the trade-in value.

In my case it was $35 for my s8.

          Stop spreading misinformation on ozbargain!

          • +8

@clandestino: sorry i meant got charged the trade in value not the bonus.

          • @clandestino: Did you also get charged another $60 fee for not sending in your phone (admin fee)?

            • @Trishool: There wasn't any $60 admin fees when I got charged for trade-in value of a phone.

          • @clandestino: My s8 is apparently ineligible? Did you have to do anything special for it?

          • @clandestino: What if you cancel your credit card before they charge you?

          • @clandestino: Actually, if you read the T&Cs it clearly sets out the following:

            5.6(a) If you fail to return your Existing Device to us within seven days after the date on which You receive your New Samsung Device, You may be charged a Device Non-Return fee in accordance with clause 6.2(a) below;

            6.2(a) …you authorise us to charge Your credit card a Device Non-Return Fee if You do not return Your Existing Device to us within seven days after the date on which You receive your New Samsung Device;

            13 . Definitions
Device Non-Return Fee means a fee which is equal to the amount of the discount You received when Your unique Trading ID was applied at the point of sale when You purchased Your New Samsung Device Online in accordance with clause 5.2 of these Terms and Conditions.

It may be the case that Asurion is not always bothering to report the non-returns to Samsung to clawback the bonuses, but that doesn't mean that it's not set out as their contractual right (though i think there is contention as to whether the 'discount' is the trade-in amount or the overall discount applied - it isn't crystal clear) - it doesn't make sense to downvote and dismiss someone who is stating that this right may have been exercised with some customers.

        • Charged the full bonus discount amount.. or just the trade in value and non return fee?

        • +6

Yes they got charged for the value of the phone they didnt trade in, not the bonus value.

          • @11112007: Ok so if my phone is worth nothing and only bonus value. Then I don't need to send in my phone?? Something doesn't sound right

        • +1

Didn't return mine, didn't get charged bonus. Neither did my mate. We did however get charged the tradein value which was peanuts so I then sold it privately for much more.

        • This guys is saying something totally different

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/612845?page=25#comment

"My wife rang to confirm $500 promo as well in case we want to keep old phone and was told that Asurian will charge handset fee and it makes you ineligible for Samsung and then samsung charges $500 back later. She put her on hold and said this is confirmed hy support team. They also said we are sorry if someone else said on chat that you still get it but that is in TnC as a must requirment."

    • +1

Correct. Samsung didn't care if you returned the device or not, that part was handled by Asurion. I didn't return 2 phones but was charged only the trade-in values ($235 and $185).

      • Do you know how long until they actually charge you for not returning?

      • Do you know what this guy is on about?

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/612845?page=25#comment

    • They only charge you the trade in value, I didn't return my S10 128gb for $110 and they charged me that.

The terms and conditions state you may get charged extra fees like non-return fee and such, but they never do.

      • What if you state that your screen is cracked so the trade in value is even lower? Wouldn't it be better to have a lower trade in value so you get charged even less when you don't return it?

        • Yup, I didn't think of that lol. I'm an idiot.

          Should have done that

        • You would get the message saying not eligible for trade up.

        • It doesn't matter, the net effect will be $0 because you will be getting less discount in the first place.

      • What if you cancel your credit card before they charge you?

        • They charge you approx 2 weeks after the sale been made and they send you 2 reminders to send it back. Though, I wonder if someone ever put a pre-paid debit card to avoid such direct debit.

Maybe they will send an invoice to manually pay it and if you don't, you might get a default.

          • @hasher22: Yeh I was too wondering about the prepaid credit cards. Another $135 savings would've been nice

            • +1

@Homr: Do it, order the phone under a different name and account. When they delivered my phone, that didn't ask for ID, they didn't even let me sign for it. He just gave it to me

              • @hasher22: They have no added ID in the app so your ID name has to match the name you are purchasing the phone with. Also added a $60 administration fee. I didnt return my phone when I bought a Fold and was charged $60 plus the trade-in credit

                • @whyohwhy23: they're now asking for KYC, been asked to upload an ID when I tried it on the trade-up app a couple of days ago. previously they didn't ask

Mx Apple, "Don't think about good values, just give us the money & we will give you a badge" - with much less value :( "Don't even think about needed accessories"

    • +3

I was looking at the Apple trade in program today and wishing they offered the same bonuses as Samsung. Being loyal to an ecosystem is costly.

      • -5

Easier to go from Android to Apple than the other way.

  • +24

    What does this even mean?

  • +1

Cant access the trade in pard. When entered in Trade-In ID, it says, service unavailable.

    • May be like last time you have to put in your Credit Card.

      • Right after I type Trade in ID, then when I hit continue, the message"Sorry, Due to an error, this service cannot be accessed". No chance of entering card or ahipping details

        • +1

No chance of entering card or ahipping details

Have to add your credit card on the trade in app before the ID will work.

This "duplicate" post suddenly came back.

    • I have the same issues. Cannot add my credit card to get a Trade-Up ID but thought someone else will be able to take advantage of this deal. I am sure it will stack with other discounts from live chat.

    • +1

Yup… I tried last time for a couple of hours, same issue. It's like the trade-in webservice isn't even being called.
Sorry, due to an error, trade-in service is unavailable at the moment

That's all I've ever got from 5 different computers.

      • 5 different computers.

You have to enter Credit card onto the phone trade in app.

        • I did, late last week. They charged me the dollar, days later I still get "Sorry, due to an error, trade-in service is unavailable at the moment".
          No phone for me!

          • @flumpf: This is insane - I don't understand how this error can persist for almost a week without it being fixed.

I've tried three browsers with the trade-in code given last week. Every time I get that error. Tried it on my phone, same deal. Thought I'd try the trade-in app again, but now that I have a code that throws that error I'm apparently stuck with it. Already given them my credit card, so…

Maybe they're discounting so heavily as they're not selling any, because nobody can get this flipping trade-in code to work? ;)

Thanks for wasting my time, foul Samsung temptresses, I'll live with my current phone.

            Harumph.

          • @flumpf: I had the same error, I put the code in anyway and after a minute the error went away.

    • Do the entire process through the trade up app, enter in CC details in the trade up app then proceed to online store. Worked for me.

      EDS eProm Team Outdated Phone

      What..!?

    • Can you still get a chat code now?

    • how to get chat code without having to email samsung?

      • You don't, the codes are individual.

        • What do you mean individual? Can one ask the chat team for a code?

        • I meant when i have asked lately they want a photo of phone and all this other stuff rather than just giving you the code straight away

    • Has your order been dispatched yet or is it still waiting for approval?

      • How long did your order take to change status from awaiting approval? Mines still stuck at awaiting approval since yesterday.

        • A few days, I ended up giving them a call and they moved it along. Received the phone Wednesday last week.

    S21 Ultra Mobile

Who still uses the term mobile to describe 'Phone'

    • Since the phone is almost a by-product of having a mobile computer in your hand?

  • +10

Wow. 6 months after release so cheap. People should never buy Samsung phones at launch.

    • +1

      same deal 3 months ago

      • +5

Its cheaper than last year's iPhone. lol

    • +1

released more than 8 months ago

    • +7

should never buy ANY phones at launch?

      • -5

Buying an iPhone at launch is the best time to buy. Price stays the same till the next model.

        • Not for non pro models.
Apple is changing strategy and offers more discount on non pro models.
There was almost $300-400 discount for 12 mini and 12.

      • +2

Thats my moto. Never buy anything at launch.

    • +1

There was good deals at release too… Vodafone were doing bonus $500 trade in value + you got the free pre order bonuses i.e galaxy buds Pro… Plus you've had the phone for 8+ months already.

It wasn't all bad getting it on release 🙂

    • +1

All android phones are the same.

You should never buy a flagship at release. Always wait 6-8 months at best price points while still relatively new.

  • +4

How to ask for a chat code??
Just say hi can i get a chat code?

    • +2

Im talking to an agent right now, when they ask whether you need the code for buying a new phone or if your current phone has damages, make sure to tell them that it's due to damages, they won't give you the code if you tell them its for a new device

      • +1

They ask for pics & imei of the phone how you get around that?

        • I didn't :( still going to buy the s21 since $430 is still an alright price

        • Damn, same boat here. Wouldnt risk faking a crack screen only to find my phone doesnt work with trade in anymore…

          • +3

@Bargainjustifier: Some agents asks for more info, some don't. Just say you have old Samsung phone and you want to upgrade to new s21 Ultra 5g or whatever phone U want to buy and they asks which email you are using for it and they give you the code. The code is for specific model I think so make sure you mention the model you want to buy. Just bought the s21 Ultra 5g 256GB for $944 after $50 sign up code , $100 chat discount code and the bonus trade up code all up discount of $1005

            • +1

@roshanrbb: Damn, did u put up an oblivious act? Or just blatantly ask for a code?

Also im not seeing my $50 code, been like 1 2 hours since

              • +1

@Bargainjustifier: No I said oh my friend said there's $100 discount for upgrading from old Samsung to new Samsung phone and the agent asked for my email address and gave me the code.

      • They request you send photos of the IMEI number if you do this now - presuming they blacklist it for trade in.

        • So no chat code any more and I never receive $50 newsletter code.

May be try later tonight, last last deal, seem people getting it with their night shift.

        • +1

I have a cracked screen S7, will that work?
          Thanks.

          • +1

@Averell: if you can take a photo of the imei, itll work. I did it with my cracked note

      • +2

i just said to the agent that i'm interested in buying the s21 ultra "now" and wondering if i can get any discount. I also said that i've heard they were offering loyalty reward. Agent didnt ask me for anything else and just gave me a code. I think you just have to tell them you're buying now and wanted a bit of discount and they will give you the code.

      • -1

Or be smart and tell them your phone has some internal issues. Like I said it's shuts off randomly. Then they ask have you tried any steps to fix it. You say yes I did factory reset. Then he or she will ask you to take a picture anyways of back and front and IMIE number.

    • you need to say the magic words
