  • Any specials on the dome ones

    • Are they better?

      • I want to add to my eves, so I think the dome is better suited. I also prefer the look

        • so functionally they are the same?

          • @jv: I assume so, but who knows. Maybe the rep can answer.

            • @pformag:

Don't hold your breath. They just did a "Post and run…"

            • @pformag: Dome ones suit the ceiling and the bullet ones suit both ceiling and wall.

  • Just thinking wether to go with this or 4K ANNKE camera https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/233932921469?var=533580852347

    • Are they better than the 4K reolink ones?

Night performance with the reolink isn't the best I've found. Colour night vision is the way to go but new models are out of stock or coming soon. I suggest watching some reviews like https://youtu.be/LZJX8CKR5KI (The Hook Up does a really good job at comparing cameras and systems) to get a bit of an idea. I have the Reolink NVR and a single RLC-820A. I wish I had gone with an Annke system just so I could use the NC800 cam they have. Hopefully reolink comes out with a competitive night vision cam soon so I can upgrade to better night recordings.

      • You can use any onvif camera with the Reo nvr

  • I’ve just installed this. Happy with resolution, low light, and general performance. Good system for the price.

The NVR software definitely feels like it was designed a decade ago. If you’re expecting a modern interface like the new wireless systems, newer features (like “encryption”) then forget it. But it’s a solid system once it’s working.

There are many similar NVRs with similar model numbers. Some notes online suggest you can fit two hard drives internally.. not mine. I swapped the drive for more space.

I’ve turned down the recording rate (10fps, 4mb/s max) and resolution/quality is still good. 30fps and 6mbps is a bit overkill.

Backing up video to the cloud isn’t supported: FTP (unencrypted) is the only option. I don’t believe this model has the cameras that support AI car/person detection but I didn’t care since I’m recording 24/7 - turning these on would definitely reduce recording space/bandwidth but the tech seems flimsy still. Motion detection in general is supported and works fine (but picks up sun changes, pets, etc)

    • picks up sun changes

Since when does the sun change?

    • 10fps is actually pretty bad, you won't know till you need it, there's no real advantage of turning it down at all on a 24/7 NVR. If you say the quality is good looking at the live feed, its not true to what's been recorded on the NVR, download a file and see if 10fps is still good enough, you'd still get a out a weeks worth of recording which is generally enough. The new modern UI is the one with AI. The motion detection on these is pretty bad if you have alot of shadows in the FOV. Imo better off getting the AI version for not much more and with domes as it's less prone to spider webbing

      • I’ve downloaded a few clips and the quality is fine. The bitrate will make a larger difference. A few large manufacturers suggest changing to 15fps, so it seems to be a pretty common practice.

A question to Reolink rep: are there any discounts for 4k systems?

We will arrange it next month!

      • thanks!
