    Who names this stuff?

  • Never heard about this…

  • Thank you OP

  • Good deal! My 1-month trial expired a few weeks ago. Now I can get another 3 months trial with another email :)

Would recommend moving to Argentina (via VPN) and getting Tidal:)

    • How would would that cost?

      • Around $2.94

        • What about the VPN? Does it need to be connected all the time to use after sign up?

I shifted to Tidal, teying their 3 months free was an eye opener. I still can't play master quality on my avr for some reason, it's not showing my avr.

I need to get it after 3 months expires. It's worth it.

          • @sqheaven: Vpn only when you sign up. Do you have a dac?

            • @wilnor: For headphones! Yes. Chord Mojo.

AVR Marantz SR7011, has a decent DAC.

I'll buy Tidal from Argentina 🇦🇷 😂 thanks mate.

          • @sqheaven: I just joined up for a family plan in Argentina for my wife and I. PM me if you want me to adopt you for 13 months for $10 as I got one month free. 4 spots left

    • Yes, this works great been using it for ages :)
Also have a few free spots on Tidal Hi-Fi.

I take it Qubuz doesn't work for VPN / Argentina etc? Apparently they were checking the country of origin on the ccard payments after a quick google.

Keen to try Qubuz anyway and see what all the fuss is about, and what 192kHz sounds like. Supposedly the nyquist frequency of 48kHz, 96kHz and 192kHz audio is above the limit of human hearing so it's probably a flog but interesting none the same.

Found some sample files here, don't think Foobar would be able to play highres http://www.2l.no/hires/

      • I did a trial and Qobuz sounds better, but can't justify the price difference. I'm yet to find a cheap Qobuz source.

        • No worries, Just checked the country offerings but none seem cheap.

Qobuz is currently available in 18 countries
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States.

May not be worth bothering with the trial but I may still have a look. It's good they are lowering their prices but agree it's still a lot. Tidal may get more legitimate subs if they made it more reasonable. Just like Plex, wouldn't pay for that (nor use it).

          • @G-rig: I picked up a lifetime Plex pass years back cheap. Plexamp is awesome. Mind you now that I have cheap Tidal, Plexamp isn't used as much, I mainly have it on Linux PCs.

            • @mostlygordon: Yes would have been good back then, and if you have a nas and stream all own files

        • Downloaded the 3 month trial, will see what all the fuss is about :P
Keen to hear what 24 bit music is like, what's better ASIO or Wasapi?
Wasn't sure if the Zen Dac would go up to 24 bit but does :P
Interesting the players volume still takes affect
192kHz seems to take a while to buffer to be practical, unless the player is buggy.

Would be interesting if people could hear a difference between 192kHz and 96 (or 44.1 for that matter)
The quality and mastering of the recording makes the most difference.
Got some Jazz on that sounds pretty good though. A lot of old recording have a lot of hiss but good knowing it's the best you can possibly get :D

I really don’t know how the likes of Qobuz, Tidal, Deezer etc are going to survive now that Apple Music (Spotify as well I think) offer lossless streaming at no additional cost across their entire catalogue.

Their main pull was hi res lossless at a higher price point which you can now get through the big players at a cheaper price.

How can you output hi res audio on an apple device?

    • You’ll need a DAC

Oh my god, this is amazing.

This is 2X better than Tidal HIFI.

    Goodbye Tidal, Hello Qobuz.

    • Oh right how much is Qobuz a month after trial?

      • A duck and 3 lemons a month.

        • looked it up , $20-30 a month depending on single of family.
Slightly cheaper than Tidal (or heaps more if you got a vpn)

Just wondering where muximus59 plucked '2X' better from..

          • @G-rig: I didn't say anything about the price

            I meant the quality

            • @muximus59: No worries, may test it out.
              How's it 2X better? 2 x 96 kHz = 192 kHz

              • @G-rig: I have been listening with TIDAL for 3 months, today I began trying out Qobuz and I was absolutely amazed at how much more clearer the sound was.

I didn't actually mean it is 2x better. I was just so excited at the time of posting that comment that I have found a way to upgrade my audio.

              • @G-rig: What made the sound so much better was WASAPI Exclusive Mode in Qobuz

                • @muximus59: All good was being a bit factious too, sounds interesting though defo keep to test it on the trial

I have ASIO setup in foobar output, no idea of real world difference but good knowing one's sound is the best it can be.
Shame they didn't develop that more into a user friendly app etc, still use it sometimes when playing my own ripped cds on the PC :)

Just did a google and found this, will have a read, 8 pages of goodness. All those forums come back to people saying MP3s sound as good half the time lol.

  • But what streaming? MUSIC.

  • Perfect timing! My Spotify subscription runs out in a couple of days. I switch between Tidal and Spotify depending who has the best deal/free trial. As much as I like the size of the music library on Spotify, it makes me appreciate the sound quality even more after switching back to Tidal after a few months.

After spending a couple hours listening through 24/192 in exclusive WASAPI, I'm impressed by the sound quality of Qobuz compared to Tidal. The interface on the Windows client could do with a bit of work to get it up to speed, it's the worst of the 3.

  • If anyone is keen on joining a Family sub PM me. It will be a good saving after the trial.

  • It's only showing up as 1 month for me. Can anyone tell me how to get the 3 months rather than just 1?

    • Click on "Sign in" button, not the "Register here" link.

  • "In our opinion, Qobuz sounds better than Amazon Music HD and Deezer with more details and nuances pulled out from every track. Compared to Tidal's MQA-integrated technology, Qobuz holds up very well, although Tidal might take the edge. Some songs had more depth with Tidal while a few sounded warmer through Qobuz.27 July 2021"

    • Qobuz does sound good with super high res offerings (192kHz), not much of a library really or much to listen to ..
Tidal seems the best overall but annoying you have to upgrade your gear from MQA. Most new DACs etc should include the decoder/unfolder now but no doubt drives the price up.
