    • Any known 'workarounds' for this?

I found this .on internet..but don't know if it works

PDAnet or any Wifi Direct sharing app

I just moved back from the USA and this is standard with all providers to limit hotspot (it was only 5Gig with TMobile my provider)so was expecting same here. Not aware of how to break it.

      • +1

Standard tethering on a phone won't work because it opens separate data stream which operator can limit.

You need USB modem that can change IMEI to your phone's and change TTL, basically you need USB modem look like a mobile phone to operator. The problem is unless you know exactly what you're doing just one misstep and your SIM is banned.

      • all work arounds are for andriod and as of ios13 even most of the hacks wont work now

but if your router can have the open router os and it the hardware supports it, you should be able to just Router/USB>iPhone and let all your toys plug via wifi to the router

        • thank you!

I'm on Felix, which runs under Vodafone, and they say it's not a home internet replacement, yet I've burned through 500 odd gig several months on hotspot. I'm sure they can check what you're doing somehow, but I don't think it's super enforced.

This is literally just the anecdotal experience and opinion of one person though so I mean, I wouldn't bank on it either.

2Mbps is great for browsing, social media and streaming music

What a bold faced lie by the telcos again. 2Mbps is bullshit and will piss off anyone trying to use it.

    Welcome.

how can they tell if u r using data on uour phone or hotspotting?

    • +1

As mentioned above, multiple TTLs on the packets is a give away.
As is seeing Windows Update/Apple xyz etc on an mobile device…
Or multiple streams of YouTube/Netflix etc

      • they can't unless they're on your phone. they only take you down by fair use policy.

        • It is possible to mask hotspot traffic. The degree of success varies. But if you don't make any attempt to do so, a carrier can use various methods to detect tethering.

          • @walaj: what if a device on a vpn or other security levels? however, isp cannot prove that a device being use as a hotspot without breaking the privacy law. they wont stop you, but they will sell/offer you a larger data or faster speed plan :)

Vodafone hasn't been bad for me past 2 months. Normally with Telstra but ported to Vodafone temporarily so i can get the next new customer / port in deal.

No real noticeable difference between my service with Telstra or Vodafone tbh.

  • Got a 500gb plan in a b818 modem for almost a year been perfect get about 50meg average in the gong. Streaming with no prob

    • +1

Same for me. 70Mbps, 15km from Sydney CBD, $55 per month.

    • Which provider? Any link? Thanks

  • I have been with them for 5 years with one bar signal… not bad, but, only one bar really?

    • +1

One bar signal but till gets you network, better thn optus

      • I don't know how it is fair, one bar for full price.

  • I’m on TPG unlimited fibre optic and it’s great.

    • +2

Okay? And what does that have to do with mobile deals?

      • Just bragging

  • I think Optus is providing unlimited data at 2mb/s once the monthly allowance has been reached.
