Another decent deal from BingLee.

250 nits is a bit of a meh on the screen, but at this price and specs, I feel it's pretty hard to complain. Around $100 cheaper than recent deals.

Those who liked the recent Acer Nitro deal but had reservations about supporting Harvey Norman might find some value in this plus you get a nice upgrade on the RAM and GPU.

FTX 1650ti machine for only 1039 is a bargain IMO, buy as many as you can to sell at 3x price when nvidia launches the FTX lineup next year

    Grafic card is 4GB

    • +8

Yeah and the machine costs 1039$

same on Amazon (free shipping possibly?)…

      Nice find

Yup, free delivery and I think you can still get 3% off GCs.

    • ignore

OOS on the amazon site now

  • Get this and an external graphic box?

    • +6

You need a thunderbolt port to use an eGPU. I guess that's one of the few advantages Intel has over AMD

    • +6

Can't say I'd recommend that setup to be honest boss.

I've tried to EGPU thing, it just isn't worth the money, even when paired with an ultra-portable like a Blade Stealth. With this, it makes even less sense, if you have a bit of extra cash to burn on an EGPU solution, jump on Lenovo's site and grab a Legion 5 Pro with a RTX 3060.

      • +1

Which is why these companies (all of them) need to stop being swine's and start making the gpu's modular for laptops…just like a PC. Should be a common thing by now.

        • +2

Lol. As much as I'd like that it's not feasible. There's too much difference between manufacturers and the cooling systems are custom fitted to the laptop chassis.

There's no benefit to the manufacturers. Why would they have an upgradable laptop when they could sell you a new one?

          • +1

@Caped Baldy: There's still a market in it, and they already have this with normal PCs. I don't see why it couldn't be adapted more commonly to laptops.

A place where capitalism is failing unfortunately.

        • +2

Sounds good in theory but it's really difficult in practice.
You'd have to have bulkier designs to get this to work so not all manufacturer's would be able to implement it (e.g. Razer)
Nvidia and AMD would need to release a new standard of swappable laptop GPUs components so manufacturer's would have to work around that design.
I believe there used to be a standard form factor but has been abandoned probably due to not many manufactuer's making use of it
Alienware tried releasing their own upgradeable GPU laptop (Alienware 51M) but disappointed many by only being able to use GPUs from the same lineup.
The cooling and power delivery would need to be standardised as well to ensure it meets specifications.

It would be nice to see a few upgradeable laptops, even if the majority can't.
Maybe if the "Framework" upgradeable laptops are successful they might eventually release upgradeable gaming laptops

I do really hope the company succeeds. Products like this are better for the consumers and reducing ewaste

eGPU box = GPU + Power Supply + PCIe Riser Cable. Using eGPU means your PCIe throughput will be a lot less, effectively creating a bottleneck, making high end GPU about 10~30% slower than inside an actual PC.

It's not much cheaper either than building a gaming computer and having a more portable laptop. A eGPU box itself is about $550, for that money you could've get a 10400f ($219)+cheap b560m (pro vdh for $119) + 16G 3200 RAM ($115) + cheap SSD(mx500 500G $78) + 550w bronze PSU ($60) total $591, use an old 10yr old computer case in your garage(if you have one lol) and it would be so much better to throw in any GPU than to an eGPU box. Consider laptop CPU also have worse cooling and lower power limit.

    FTX? it's GTX 1650

but seriously, don't buy 1650 in 2021 folks. 1650 laptops cost that much 12 months ago (actually even less)

    wait for good 3060 deals

    • We won't see any 3060 deals around this price anytime soon.
Also 1650 is entry level gaming GPU so the equivalent current gen GPU would be the RTX 3050
It's not unlikely to see 3050/3050Ti laptops near this price so probably best to wait on a deal for that

      • +6

I bought an Acer Nitro 5 with 3060 for $1149 a week ago. refurbished (like new) from Acer direct. I used to have a 1650 based Dell, and 3060 runs circles around 1650.

people posted other 3060 models around $1200 not long ago.

wait and shop around, deals will come up again.

        • +1

Well it's last gen entry level GPU vs current gen mid range GPU so you'd expect the 3060 to destroy the 1650.
I agree you shouldn't be getting a 1650 Ti for this price but you'll need to increase your budget to get a 3060 or else settle for a 3050/3050 Ti which is more likely in this price range

        • Actually been looking at the Acer site since I saw your post,
https://online.acer.com.au/acer/store/gaming/gaming-laptops/… is what caught my eye, but trying to find out more about the wattage for the gpu.

        • Currently waiting for the same model can you provide any feedback how's the laptop performing for you? Have you changed settings to fix the overheating problem?

Did yours come with and upgraded bios firmware to enable a higher GPU wattage?

          • +1

            @Mattcom:

            • working really well, no complaints so far
            • I haven't changed any settings, running defaults (auto in Nitro Sense)
            • can get rather loud, but in a headset I can't hear it
            • came with the 2.03 BIOS installed, which is the latest (the one that increased TGP to 95W)
            • but the graphics card firmware wasn't updated to the latest (link below)

I updated graphics card firmware to the latest, but I didn't play anything prior to the upgrade of the firmware so can't comment if it did anything

            https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/8305?b…

under "BIOS/Firmware" section it's the last entry, called "Update Nvidia discrete VGA VBIOS and improve performance", it's not BIOS but specifically graphics card firmware, and it wasn't updated on my unit out of the box.

            • @shabaka: Thanks mate, glad it's working well for you can't wait for mine to arrive!

              • +1

@Mattcom: also make sure you install another RAM plank to get dual channel setup. I got Crucial ddr4-3200 cl22 and it matches timings of the one installed out of the box

also there are 1 NVMe and one 2.5 SATA slot available inside for storage expansion, which is awesome. I already have 1tb NVMe and one 2.5 1tb spinning drive in there

      • 3050 is unable to mine eth so much easier to find a deal..

        • anyway to increase the power limit of 3050 ?

  • Hi Guys,

Is this laptop good for office use? I won't be using it for gaming.

    Thanks

    • +3

Yes easy. I have the pretty much the same thing and it does an excellent job. Can be hooked up to 2 x 4K screens at 60hz with HDMI and USB-C connection.

    • +3

No way, too heavy and a big power brick. My recommendation would be to get a lap with a good keyboard like a Thinkpad or Thinkbook if you're using the laptop's own keyboard a lot. If you're using an external keyboard you have lots of cheaper and lighter options.

      • Ohh but I will be using an external keyboard more and its ryzen 7 so should be fast enough?

    • +2

Funnily enough, the office is all that this is good for. The anemic performance of the 1650 will only be good for SFW games in 2021.

The money you saved can go towards your casual gacha purchases.

      • Thanks alot!

      • +4

The anemic performance of the 1650 will only be good for SFW games in 2021.

I'm not saying that the 1650Ti is EXCELLENT for gaming, but you severely underestimate the performance of this GPU. As someone who was stuck with integrated laptop graphics until a couple months ago, I can tell you the GTX 1650Ti is definitely a decent gaming card even tho it's not going to be the go-to choice

        GTX 1650Ti Gaming Benchmarks:
        GTA V | Ultra Graphics 1080P: 105FPS+

        Hitman 3 | Low/Medium Graphics 1080P: ~65FPS

        COD Warzone | Low/Medium Graphics 1080P: ~65FPS

Even something like VALORANT is definitely playable on this laptop and manages ~145FPS on low graphics — Low graphics since this is a competitive game and FPS > Visuals

Hope I made my point clear for anyone wanting this laptop for office use but also want to play some casual gaming on the side

    • Surely it is good for office use as in hardware performance wise.

      Just some cons:
      - High noise level and sometimes high pitch fan noise
      - No integrated webcam
      - Heavy weight (2.5kg for laptop and around 400g for adaptor)
      - No PD charge support (2021 model supports PD charge, but not 2020 model)

      • Thank you. Although it does show a camera in specifications.

        • Sorry, my bad. This is the 60Wh battery version, with sata and camera, but 120Hz monitor.

The 80Wh battery will not have camera option.

          Thanks for correction.h

Play World of Warcraft some time, haven't been able to use medium-high setting with my current computer.

    • +1

Not much difference. Maybe 5-10% better performance with the Ti

  • GTX1650 has been replaced with RTX3050, so buy the latter for the same price!

    • -3

It’s not the same price though it’s higher

      3050 tax

Both are pretty useless for games may as well save a couple of hundred

  • Uncommon case design, hinges are forward of the rear of the laptop. Not sure if this is more stable/etc. but i certainly don't see this much.

    • +1

Bad design. Makes the screen smaller or laptop bigger to compensate.
