Iherb has KN95 masks (which offer much better protection to the user than regular medical masks) for 20c/mask in USD. However they are nearly 1 pound/pack in weight and the free shipping offer is only available upto 10 pounds.

Even highly vaccinated nations like Israel still have the virus circulating, so I thought it's not a bad idea to buy some being so cheap and all.

This article explains a study supporting the use of N and KN95 masks

      https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/npptl/respirators/testing/results/…

Of the sample they had: "The maximum and minimum filter efficiency was 99.30% and 31.70%, respectively. Seventeen
respirators measured more than 95%. Thirteen respirators measured less than 95%."

YMMV, of course and I have no idea how good any other masks really are, either…

    • So I found this extremely interesting read while browsing reddit addressing the Israel issue. The Simpson paradox is very fascinating.

Stats can be deceiving unless you really dig into it.

      https://www.covid-datascience.com/post/israeli-data-how-can-…

      • Thanks it's a good article but I'm still left to wonder if that's quite right, Israel have 60% the rate of daily hospitalisations now as during their highest peak in Jan with a similar (slightly lower) number of cases compared to their Jan peak.

        • +1

I tend to believe the maths behind it but it's just me. The stats make a lot of sense.

        • think of seasons too, because of dry air, humidity…
…and how this airborne aerosols need that kind of
          'air environment' to be transmissible.

Surprised reddit quoted that site. Covid Datascience is very much non partisan, something reddit generally doesn't agree to

    • Did u get charged shipping? It’s like 50 bucks for shipping lol

      • Keep the order under 10 pounds and over $60AU and it will be free - switch from DHL to Australia post at checkout.

        • how did you get it under 10 pounds? I have selected 13 it says weight over by 0.3kg , but if i get it down to 12, it's below the weight limit but I need to pay $17 for shipping AusPost.

          • @sauce2k: So basically I bought 10 packs (8.2 pounds) then bought some vitamins etc.. that I wanted to get it upto $60.

  • Getting some bulk Cumin I like it on lamb and beef. Any other bulk spices I should get?

Nothing seems cheap on there anymore, even vitamins seem cheaper via sales locally.

    15%+7% CB is still alright.

    • Cashback is ineligible when using codes not listed on Cashrewards.

I didn't see it listed so just the 15% here.

Or if you're a new customer, they have the 20% code listed there.

    • +2

Agree 100% - I was ordering from iherb over a decade ago and the prices were amazing (and delivery cheap too). They're certainly not the no brainer they used to be.

      • +10

Same, although I find some of their brands are just better than Australian brands for me - e.g. Blackmores fillers disagree with me. Plus Melatonin is easy to get from iHerb and for that matter, so is D3 10,000iu. Everything I buy is at a better price than here although I can get close on somethings but have to shop around for individual things and then physically go there to purchase.

I also always go through CR and add the code VALUE60 which gives up to 10% off, depending on the current item price - has been working for over a year I've been using it - obviously don't use it when other codes are better…

    • +1

Yep, I've found iHerb have jacked their prices when they have specials.

      • +2

And let's not forget the Harvey tax

      • Not saying it's not true, but I've never noticed this: I've always found their prices very consistent and I've been buying from them for over 10 years

    • I bought 1kg Org Star Anise from Ebay for 39AUD..

I guess they are sold out because of rumours they help remove the Spike protein..

  • Come on Cashrewards add the code….

Xylitol? They have Epic Dental mints and gum which are good. My daughter likes the mints and they are good for your teeth.

      • Yes, those too!

    Quercetin, Zinc & Melatonin 👍

  • Your local Asian store is a good source of bulk herbs and spices. The big Indian store in Osborne Park is the best in Perth.

  • Has anyone had experience buying caffeine pills from iHerb? Australia has clamped down on the sale of them and my usual source myprotein stopped selling them here.

    • I haven't but if they let you add the items and check out then you probably should be okay receiving them - they do prevent you from purchasing some things (funnily enough not melatonin, though).

  • Does anyone have any melatonin recommendations?

    • +1

      https://www.iherb.com/pr/21st-century-quick-dissolve-melaton…

This knocks me out, but I also take a magnesium supplement and 5HTP before bed.

    • +1

Went to link you in some of the ones we regulary buy but they are all out of stock. To be honest, we buy the gummies and havent had a problem with any of them on iherb, they all do the job.

    • +1

I use Life Extension Melatonin 3mg and they work well. I also have the timed release 300mg ones as well which also work. I've also got Now Foods Melatonin 3mg which work well as well.

    • +3

Oh - in case you haven't used Melatonin before, sometimes less is more - if you have too much (for you) it can have the opposite affect and you won't sleep well. So perhaps don't start with the 10mg offerings. Just a suggestion, not medical advice, blah blah blah 😊

      • So true!
I've used the 10mg for a while that I bought from iHerb. It has an immediate effect by putting you to sleep within 30min. However, I would then wake up half-way through a normal sleep session as if the effects of Melatonin have worn out. A "slow release" Melatonin pill would be a much better option.
In this case, less is more. Need to test if taking half tablet to see if it works better (i.e. 5mg).

    • I use time release 3mg or 5mg, and take 2x100mg htp as well.

If i take more than 200mg with melatonin i will often have weird dreams that i remember. Not ideal. More htp is usually OK if by itself though.

Didn’t realise so many people actually bought herbs for cooking here. I just use it for vitamins and supplements, the prices used to be a lot better than they are now, but I still find it worthwhile compared to the major Aussie brands here, especially for finding things with higher IUs.

  • +1

Tried to buy some masks using the code but it says can’t stack discount code for something already discounted

    • Yep - same for me although the code worked on everything else I purchased (which weren't already discounted)

      • Also I’m getting shipping charge….spent over 40

        • The minimum is usually AU55, or so - but I've found this isn't always too accurate - I suspect it has everything in US$ and the conversion isn't amazingly accurate for the free shipping so you just need to add something more until you get the free shipping.
