    Really difficult to decide:

$10 per month with 1.5gb of data and a free modem; or

$15 a month for 1.5gb of data plus $6 a month modem repayments

  • You forgot to mention that all these have minimum contract terms.

A better way to determine a deal is the av cost per month. or Total cost.

3 months 1/2 price off on a 6 month contract is a lot different to 3 months 1/2 price off on a 24 month contract

And as GeeWhizz points out the 1/2 price offer the 12mth 1.5Gb plan costs more ($225pa) vs the no free month plan ($120pa). I cant see the deal here. Or am I missing something?

  • The pre paid version of this was an awesome deal, $35.50 for the modem, and 3GB of data 30 days expiry. It may still be ableto be obtained for half price. Cant see much of a deal for this post paid special.

  • Seems a good deal if you don't have issues with Voda coverage. According to their site on a 12 month contract for $29.00 dollars, total cost is $348.00 with first 3 months at 1/2 rate and 6GB per month. When I spoke to them yasterday Pocketwifi can be unlocked for free after 1st week. (Better check with them again)

Might be wise. I got one a while ago on a 12 month $10 plan. I figured seeing as it was post paid, then in theory, it should be a free unlock, as with most phones on post paid. When I enquired I was told no, there was still a fee, $75 in the first six months (online) as with the pre paid ones.

Paid elsewhere for an unlock - hubby took it to Melbourne for a week and somehow managed to leave it behind. Needless to say, the hotel he had stayerd at could not find it.

(And they still want a fee for unlocking a wifi 1 that must be going on a couple of years old. This one was admittedly gotten prepaid, though)

  • excuse my ignorance but how do you unlock the wifi?

    • Do a search on here for threads involving pocket wifi 2 and you'll find an email address for a dude on gmail who will do it for $15. He's done 2 for us, and both times it took about 3 days.

Some people say the unlocker at Vodafone has given them the unlock for free, but most have to pay for it. As with phones, if it's on a plan, they're getting their money anyway, so it SHOULD be free.

  • sukhy, you forgot the most important number: the excess data charge.
It is not so bad: $20/GB , compared to the extortionate $500/GB on cap plans.

Still, prepaid has much more flexibility, and is a bargain for this modem, as mentioned above.
