Same batch of stock, key difference is that this over the phone only, so no bots can order.

I just ordered one so others can too

      • +24

fxxk bots!!! ruined us manual scalpers ' business!!!!

        • +5

Bots have feelings too u know… :( just doing what they are told…

        • -1

          Noobed

      • +3

should someone tell online stores about this new technology called CAPTCHA?

        • +1

Captcha is useless and is only useful for useless bots. Easily defeated

          • +1

@jmel: Damn, can you call Cloudflare and tell them this news? Also shoot Google an email, I'm sure they'd love to know that their reCAPTCHA doesn't actually work.

            • +1

@SierraSC: Why don’t you call the banks, ebay, super, Amazon and even gmail telling them they are dumb for not using captcha?

              • +1

@jmel: I sent them a fax, turns out they do use captcha when they suspect bot activity, most often when failing multiple login attempts. Huh, strange hey?

  • hurry up, 25 mins to go!

  • +14

Last time I pre order a PS5 with them was 18/09/2020, ended up cancelling after 7 months of waiting.

  • -1

    Quick!

If you don’t own one you will not be hip!

  • +2

They just need to limit one per address problem solved 🙄🤦‍♂️

    • I heard bots have multiple addresses, I am sure the coders thought of all the ways to get one

      • +2

True or one per mobile number would weasel them out ? It can't really be that hard but I doubt retailers really even care let alone Sony

  • +1

    Don’t need 1

    • +5

      2 then?

      • +3

        Then you'll have a Playstation 10

  • Thanks ordered 1 late october

  • So they ask for card details over the phone for the deposit then?

    • +1

Yes as need to make payment

      • +1

Such an outdated way of doing business for a next gen console. Interesting times we live in….

        • +3

it's the same way you ask for a price match with officeworks.

        • +2

a very good way to combat scalpers though. But still doesn't stop someone calling up multiple stores

          • +5

@Sammyboy: Rather that then bots going online though.

Also, if EB was smart, all their systems are connected and can only take 1 order per credit card and match the last 4 digits with the expiry date. Or 1 address, or 1 name etc…. yeah it doesn't fix the problem but greatly reduces dodgyness

    • +11

No, you hand-draw them an IOU note and fax it to their head office.

      • +1

Thinking paying over the phone is outdated? Amazing.

        • +1

Handing all your card details over to a complete stranger, what could go wrong…

          • @Red Pandas: That means the card way is also outdated.

            • -2

@VestMogen: There’s a reason PayPal exist and is used worldwide. I’d trust them more than some 18year old kid with a man bun at the local EB

          • +4

@Red Pandas: You must be new to cyber fraud? Check your T&C's of your credit card, you don't authorise it, you don't pay for it.

You familiar with the amount of phishing scams etc that go on? Jo blow on the phone just wants to get through his shift.

            • @Pootie Tang: It’s funny that you think the card holder must first give authorisation before a transaction can be made. Give your card to Jo blow on the street and see if that rule holds up

The bank gives you back your money, for them to do that money has to be taken first. This isn’t a charity

              • +1

@Red Pandas: If you don't authorise the transaction, you don't pay. Nothing to do with the transaction going through, hence disputed transactions - source - worked in fraud for WBC.

        • Yep - "card-not-present" (CNP) transactions are still an important part of each scheme's (MasterCard, Visa, AMEX et al) rules and consumer rights are enshrined under the ePayments Code.

          • @[Deactivated]: In this case MOTO to be specific

            • @davidl820: True! Thank you financial services and/or retail geek ;-)

  • +11

    Pretty smart move by EB.
Taking customer money 2-3months early to pump this quarter's financials.

    • +3

      $GME

    • +1

      Its a win-win situation.

As a customer I would get a “guarantee” of getting PS5 console after putting $200 deposit.

EB games got the money from customers and good for their financial papers.

    • To the moon….

  • +1

Thanks, managed to get in just in time! Couldn't get through to my local store or Melbourne Central but got through to Docklands just fine

    • +9

At this stage it's looking like a deal since you can't get it anyways! LOL!

    • +1

Can't argue with the upvotes which indicates it is a deal

    • -1

There are always people downvoting this kind of posts when it comes to XBox or PS5 but they somehow allow all those GPU posts that are way above so called RRP, dual standards aye ;)

    • -1

man why you taking my neg votes … p.s. it's a deal if the item fukin dissapears after 30seconds of hitting online world wide.

    • Same for many many many other deals here. It is not the relative price vs RRP.
It depends on th DEAL, BARGAIN. And if you know about RTX3080 at 10% above RRP I would upvote your deal 100x if I could as I would consider it a great deal!

  • Called. Probably not going to get it since it is a pre-order that will arrive around end of NOV to early DEC… :/

  • Season 5 cod cya there

  • +2

Thanks OP. Pre-ordered. Rather wait than competing with scalpers.

  • -1

SO you could buy an Xbox Series X or PS5 for the same price as a Mid range graphics card that has less performance.. lol

    • but you spend $$$ buying games or subscribing to a pass, so it's a win for console manufacturer

selling you a console is just locking you into their storefront, and the money will keep flowing

PC gaming is in general cheaper, and you can do so much more on a PC

      • -1

I'm not talking about PC… i'm talking about a graphics card… you could use a laptop or basic desktop for most anything but if you want the best graphics you either want a PS5/Xbox series X or 3070/6700XT or faster.

anything else and its SLOWER then the GPU in these consoles.

    • Yeah it makes no sense, but these consoles are a loooot cheaper than PC hardware at the moment.
I was going to upgrade my PC but I'll just use a PS5 for now.

  • is digital or CD better?

    • +8

Disk lets you sell games when yer done / share with friends

    • +4

CD imo. Good for used/discounted bargain games.

    • +3

CD games are much cheaper and you can resell, so you'll make back the initial extra cost fairly quickly.

    • +2

Digital games are like $30 more than disc ones at launch and don't go on sale as often. Better off buying the disc model if you can find it.

    • +1

      CD. You'll also get a 4K player.

    • +1

It actually annoys me that they make the digital games more expensive. It makes literally no sense.
You have to print a CD, package it, print a cover, ship it to a store, at wholesale price, pay commissions and what not and receive what’s left over. OR - sell games on your website, offload all the software acquisition costs onto customer and have no physical logistics to deal with, no delays on payments either - and charge MORE?!? Then I can’t sell the game ?!

      Madness ladies and gentleman.

      • Its not about the customers - its about the vendor screwing over customers that have no other choice. Pricing is about what people are prepared to pay, rarely ever about costs.

        • Costs is definitely the starting point and it would go up from there. Break even, then screw.

      • It is also to keep retail happy and not feel they are competing directly with Sony on price and as a consequence being priced out. Sony still very much relies on retail to shift consoles and accessories etc, so it's in their best interest to keep them happy.

Jb Hi-fi has store allocated stock that you can preorder as well.

    • Can I ask which store can take order?

      • sunny coast.

follow the stock alerts on twitter, youll be first to know

  • -8

Called a few… most said it was closed at 10am.

    • most said it was closed at 10am

So I assume the few that said they didn't close preorders at 10am you ended up with a pre-order?

      • Na. The few had disconnected their phone. Seem shit luck for me

  • +3

Called up and they said I had to come in!
Got there in time and got a preorder down.
Late October they are guessing but who knows.
    Thanks OP!

  • +2

I bought $200 worth of EBGames Gift Cards and used that as the deposit over the phone here in WA. Unfortunately they can't take CC payments over the phone

    • They had taken my CC payment over the phone in VIC. Beats me if its different in WA

    • Same… I went to pick a a pre-order in store and the manager gave me two options.

      1. Call them over the phone and provide CC detail (yes, I was literally standing right outside the store).
      2. Allow them to take a photo of my debit card and CVV before processing the order on the spot.

      All contactless….

  • +3

I'm puzzled why console deals are posted as "pre-orders", while everything else are "back orders".
This things been out for almost a year, it ain't a pre order anymore.

    • Maybe the way EB sees is that they are not ordering units for people, it is more like they are going to get certain number of units allocated to them and they are pre-allocating those to people. I know when EB notified my pre-order was available last year, the store basically told me it can only reserve that unit for me for a short period of time, if I don't pick it up soon, the store will re-allocate that to someone else (and mine wasn't the launch day batch).

  • Vodafone has both consoles on backorder for the end of August delivery if you have an eligible service with them.

  • +2

Actually managed to get a preorder in just before 5pm.
Strangest thing. Was resigned to giving up to 2022.
Might have one for the kids for Xmas sorted..

  • +3

Picked mine up today. They seem to be coming in early.

    • Really? My order is still processing. When did you put in your order?

  • Received a call to say stock received in today

  • Off to pick up mine now.

  • +1

Be aware if you have put in deposit, getting a refund is rather difficult should you want to cancel this “pre-order”.

I had received mine from Amazon and would like to cancel - they said have to wait till lockdown ends. Happy to take money from the phone - not so much for the refund.l!

    In VIC

    • +1

Lol, when lockdown ends in Vic. PS6 might be out by the time that happens.

  • +2

Went in the store that I selected to tried if I get lucky to bring one home with me.

It turned out that they actually have stocks in store but they can't give me one because the pre-orders we did online were actually loaded to system 2 days later so we are actually behind the people who walked in to place the order, which sux…

Guess we'll just have to wait a bit more longer.

    • +1

Picked up mine yesterday and it's the updated model CFI-1102A.

  • +1

    Got mine today

  • +1

    Got mine today

  • -2

    Got mine in feb

  • +2

Just rang the store and they had stock so I paid the remaining amount. The stock was from preorders that were waiting for more than a week and no one responded to them.
