I saw the 14 day trial, am aware of vocus; previous providers used them and it wasn't terrible; am located in Perth, but that was a few years ago, been exetel for a few years now, but the issues in the last couple weeks have started to annoy me (drop outs last week over 3 days lasting half a day, though that was apparently all weather related on optus lines) and massive slow downs over the 2 months prior to that for hours on end, not on peak, so have started looking elsewhere.

        Other budget providers you recommend?

        Thanks for your reply!

Mate and Superloop are worth a look.

  • Is it worth calling ABB and threatening to leave unless they price match with Mate?

    • Aussie BB don't price match. Use the promo or change to Mate.

  • +2

surely superloop is better $74.95 for 6 months & 3 month free upgrade to 250/25 https://superloop.com/consumer/home-broadband/nbn.html
Though good deal to move to if already with superloop & not on a discount deal

    • +1

That is a good deal for those on HFC and FTTP.

  • For the people who jumps between NBN providers (FTTP) every 6 months. What's your current modem/ or router do you use for all the NBN providers? I have existing Exetel NBN modem but am unsure if I can use this for ABB /Superloop /Mate NBN.

    • FTTP uses the nbn NTD + a router. There is no modem modulation involved. The ZTE router from Exetel is compatible with all three ISPs with some configuration changes.

      • +1

Thanks for the information. Just wondering where can I find these configuration changes?

        • +1

ZTE instructions for Aussie BB and Superloop who use DHCP. Mate uses PPPoE with your Mate account username and password. You can use just about any router on FTTP if you want a new faster one.

          • +1

@Twix: Thanks for the link. Appreciate it!

    • +1

Also keep in mind with FTTP you can have 4 active connections at one time.
When a new ISP provisions your service they will use the next available port on the NTD.
So you will need to connect your router from the current connection to the one that is being provisioned with the new ISP.

      • Yeah don't forget to cancel or you will end up with a nice fat bill from multiple ISPs.

  • Went to sign up, got this error:

This Promo Code is not valid for this billing company.

    Then read T&Cs:

a discount cannot be applied to an address within 180 days of any other discount being applied, unless you can prove you are a new owner/rental tenant (not flatmate) of that address

    Wowwww :(

    • nbn set the 6 month date. You have to swap ISP to get a similar offer.

      • Wait sorry, ignore my comment. I got mind blank and thought 180 days was not 6 months lol. That's weird tho because the last time I was with ABB it was last October, so not sure why I'm getting this error

        • +1

A handful of others reported that error. Call up and tell them the code over the phone.

  • ABB isn’t what it used to be. Packetloss and jitter 7-1030pm most nights made me try Superloop. Similar issues with superloop but might have been slightly better.

I’m with Launtel now and it was pretty rough at first, lots of packetloss issues but after they upgraded the CVC it’s improved but still get the odd jitter affecting gaming during peak hours.

My next ISP to test will be Future Broadband

    • Packet loss from all 3 suggest the problem lies elsewhere. Any game in particular? Have you ruled out your router and Wi-Fi?

      • Looking at their CVC graph when I’d get packetloss or jitter, it would show usage above 80-90%. No packetloss and ping would stabilise when utilisation was below 80%.

I tried many tests, cables, routers, directly connected to NTD etc I’d only experience issues when my POI was getting hammered

Oh I might add all gaming is done via Ethernet. PC next to my console so I could perform tests on it while gaming and I could see latency and packetloss issues to google and cloud flare dns. Game servers wouldn’t respond to ping

ABB, SL, Launtel are great ISP’s if your POI has enough CVC capacity

        • CVC is only one part of the problem. If Future BB doesn't help something else is up. Is this on HFC?

          • @Twix: FTTP. New apartment complex, everything was fine up until ~Oct last year. Was with ABB for 2 years no issues then started experience packetloss etc later in the year.

I think I’ll sign up to future tomorrow and monitor it closely

            • @johnnytran: Maybe something is wrong with your NTD. Keep us posted about Future BB.

    • I'm with Superloop atm, very good and fast all times of the day

      • Yes my connection was fast at all times as well, don’t think I saw it below 90Mbps on my 100Mbps plan but I’m referring to latency and packetloss issues which would impact my online gaming experience.

  • Can anyone reccomend a good router for this plan? i currently have the TG789 (junk box) with internode. would this work?
Would it be better to get something like Google Nest to get a stronger wifi connection in my place???

    • +1

TG789 is compatible with Aussie BB and will do 100/20 easy. For stronger Wi-Fi yeah Nest Wi-Fi will help. Deco M5 by TP-Link is an OzBargain favourite as it is just as good and cheaper.

      • +1

Thanks Twix, this is helpful! i find the TG789 barely covers our ground floor in our townhouse, so looking at other options. Would the Deco wifi range be better?

        • For a townhouse a 2 pack of either Nest Wi-Fi or Deco should suffice with one on each level. A difference is the Deco M5 has two Ethernet connections on both (4 total) and the Nest Wi-Fi has two Ethernet connections only on the main base. Do you have FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP, HFC?

          • +1

@Twix: I'm on Internodes NBN FTTP Gold 500

            • @punkel: Loving life on FTTP ;-)

When plugging in the router to the NTD the Deco is compatible with all ISPs. Nest Wi-Fi is compatible with Aussie BB but isn't compatible with Internode because it doesn't support VLAN 802.1Q. For even better Wi-Fi performance get a router with Wi-Fi 6 assuming your phone, computers and so on has support for it.

              • +1

@Twix: Thanks mate for your help. ill look into the Deco M5 :)
Amazon currently have 2 pack for $170 ;)

                • @punkel: Good price. Deco M9 and Deco X20 are also worth a look.

                  • +1

@Twix: As i have FTTP, would i be able to remove the TG789 and totally replace it with Deco M5 by plugging it straight into the NTD?

                    • +2

@punkel: Yeah that's recommended. One Deco to the NTD and the second Deco on the other level.

  • +1

Thanks, OP, connected to ABB within 1 hr. Great timing as well as my Superloop billing period ends tomorrow.

    • edit: all good

  • I am coming from superloop and put in request on early friday with the order submitted by ABB on the same day, but still hasn't churned yet.
I have churned couple of times and never took more than few hours.
    What gives?

    • I requested a callback and got a callback about few hours later. Disconnections: 1800 101 210. Cancelled on the same day. Their staff is based in Adelaide and many were not available to work according to my CSA

  • +1

Can confirm this promo still works in August!

    Thanks OP!

  • Went to sign up, appears the code is no longer working unfortunately.

    • Code is still valid for 100/20 unlimited only.
