This or the U6-lite?
U6-lite has wifi 6, while this probably has better range, and is much cheaper.
I don't have any devices supporting wifi 6 yet, so personally don't see the need for the moment.
I'm waiting on them to get the 6 lite back in stock on eBay, and drop the udm pro back to $545 plus a new voucher code.
I’d get the U6 Lite myself.
Excellent price! Came to $104.90 delivered.
I believe the pro is physically much larger than the lite. Something to be aware of!
can confirm
These work great in most environments unless you need absolute maximum speed in which case I would always try to work out physical cabling if possible.
Have installed heaps and never an issue. Make sure you update firmware etc upon installation.
Do they work well as a mesh system? Or are they totally independent? Ie are the handoffs good or is that device dependent?
I have a two storey house and wifi upstairs is limited. Would like a unit on each level but I don't want my phone to hang onto the downstairs unit after walking upstairs and give bad reception when a better access point is closer.
they can work as mesh system but you need to manage using software.
i've got two ac-lites in a mesh between the house and the backyard studio, probably about 15m apart. There is a very small delay while it switches if I walk between the house and studio the middle of a teams call. Haven't turned on the 802.11r fast roaming stuff yet though as I was worried it might not work that well with some of the less advanced 2.4 stuff I'm running.
You do need the controller software to be running somewhere to manage them as a mesh… e.g a NAS, small server or something.
This unit needs to be installed and placed on the ceiling right?
you can install on wall as well
I have just installed UDM to USW-16-POE to these APs at a number of sites. Damn its a good system, especially running off FTTP, no crappy modem/router from the internet retailer either. Rock solid, fast WiFi, really effective remote monitoring, super flexible, easy to upgrade to WiFi 6e in the future. Just great gear for super cheap.
Ethernet only 10/100 Mbps ?
10/100/1000
got one, thanks OP
I can't seem to make a successful payment through the website, have tried PayPal a few times, tells me to contact the vendor, tried credit card direct as well, still no luck, guess I don't really need one… :(
Also had this issue. I had to use cc via a computer
I got same error with paypal as well
I have one of these from a previous deal. I find it locks up about once a week, and I need to power cycle it to get Wi-Fi back. SSID is being broadcast, but there is no LAN or internet access on it.
Initially, I tried to set up various wVLANS (with a smart switch and opnSense), but even bringing it back to stock settings, it still struggles to function for more than a week or so.
I've installed a few of these for friends, never had an issue. Sounds like you may have an IP conflict.
I have a similar issue. I have a 1.5 yo Pro AC which locks up around once per week too. I can't see what is happening in the logs but when it happens it continues to function with some wifi clients but new ones can't connect. When it occurs I can't ssh to it.
Quite disappointing - Ive otherwise loved having Ubiquiti gear for nearly 10 years now
Oos
