Hi guys,

Before someone says it, they're all Snapdragon 865 models.

    • It's that good or bad?

      • +6

        its the best

    • +1

I thought 4G was not? Is there a new version?

Edit: dunno why I am being down voted for asking a genuine question. I just noticed there was a version 2 of the phone on gsmarena. That's good to know.

  • Better to wait until S21 FE comes out soon

  • +1

The S20 FE 5G was $699 from eBay Plus a while ago
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/626607

  • 5G is currently $729 on Samsung EPP, 4G is $636

    • Can get it $749 Gov EPP.

      • Oops, so it does

    • shows 999 for me. Am i seeing something wrong.

    • Which portal? Gov is 749. Education also 749

      • Yeah sorry, typo

        • Ah, damn, was hoping then it was dropping again, matched OW with amazon 5g $695 2 weeks ago but only got the other half one, want one myself now,

I'd be holding out for something like this.

    • You can get $678 via ebay now with Afterpay code

      • Yea :) I want one so I can mastercard price protection.

  • Does the S20FE 5G support dual sim? Thanks.

    • +1

      Nope. 5G is Single.

      • Does it support eSim?

        • +1

          No

  • +3

S21 was like $500 or something with the trade-in offer

    • yep and as cheap as $349 if you got in early back in March!

    • +1

With the Samsung trade up and loyalty bonuses I could have got the S21+ 5G for $729, but that included trading in my 10e for only $120. Still valid to 30 June I believe.

Found Samsung trade up on ozbargain.

  • This is not dual sim right? Need a dual sim.

  • Guys I have JB eGift Card for $800 so reached out to JB Guys & they are happy to price match for the 5G Variant.

Big question is do I fork out the remaining dollars & get the S21 5G or go with the S20 FE 5G?

Plan is to us Boost/Coles/Koan Mobile (PrePaid plans) so 5G is not a mandatory at this stage but dont want to buy the 4G to limit myself for future

There is a considerable size difference between those 2 phones. I've had S20 FE 5g since it first came out (pre-ordered) and I'm still not used to the size of the phone in my pocket. Came from S7 before this.

These are the worse phones ever! They overheat and the buttons on the side break. I sent mine back to Officeworks for a full refund. I just bought it during Black Friday!

    • Black Friday last year?

    • +7

      wierd.. had mine since release.

Been one of the best phones I've had

      128 5G Navy owner

      • Really, that's great. I had a friend who bought around the same time, same problems. I had look online and youtube, it seems to be a common problem with that phone.

        • +1

          damn…

          5G?

      • Same, 5G cloud red and best phone I've ever had too. So much so I'd consider buying another one heavily discounted later in the year.

      • I wonder if the discrepancy is due to the Exynos vs Snapdragon processor. The reviews on Bing Lee's website for the Exynos report the same issues and absolutely roast the phone for overheating/battery life.

        • all the 5gs should have snapdragon though…

        • +1

          No pun intended..

    • Doing anything in particular that caused the phone to overheat? Are you talking about the 4G Exynos or 5G version?

I've also had a 5G version since last year and haven't experienced any issues.

    • I have the 4G Exynos version. No issues, let alone with buttons.

Better off buying a second hand iPhone 6 or galaxy s7 and using it for tradeup

    • +1

Tradeup in JB or Samung? Looked at Samsung & price is $999 & iPhone 8 Trade Up showing $129 max so not sure if its worth

    • buying a second hand iPhone 6 or galaxy s7 and using it for tradeup

no need, I asked a family member to run the samsung "trade up" app on her samsung phone, got the code and ordered. Of course me/her will not be trading that phone in :)

      • +1

So how much did you get for the trade in? You do realise they will deduct the amount through the credit card details you provided in the app or in this case your friends credit card if you don't send the phone to them.

        • come on man, I of course provided my credit card. The page before the last in the app says that if you dont send it in, they will deduct this amount from my card, which of course is fair and not a problem and I expect it. btw it was $220 for note 10. The point of this is to also get the $400 bonus discount that you get to keep.

    • How does this work? I've tried the trade up app and it shows $5 trade in value for my S7?

      • Yeah, then you get a bonus 400 off any new s21.

        Get an s21 5g for 695

  • S21 FE seems to be on the horizon, but still not a bad deal

  • I have the 4g non-snapdragon I bought a little while ago. They're on sale for $600 because it's old stock on the way out. As others have said the snapdragon 4g has been on sale for $600 too so if you see it that price I highly recommend it. The non-snapdragon has its own dxomark review with great results.

Really good phone, the overheating people are talking about I'm not sure but it could be the "black screen of death" (search for it) which has happened to me about 4 times in a month. Just hard reset and it's back to normal. I'm sure a future software patch could fix it.

    Great phone and no regrets.

    • "Just hard reset" you lose all your data?

      • -1

Yeah you have to factory reset each time. I've done it 4 times this month.

Not really ffs it was a typo but I can't change the post now. You just hold vol down and power and "reset" it.

        • +1

Wow, the things users tolerate. I'd 100% be sending a phone with that issue back.It sounds like a hardware fault.

          • @ihfree:

            Wow, the things users tolerate.

It's just a quick reboot, it's not a big deal. Pretty sure a software patch could fix it.

  • If price was exactly the same would you go for the S21 or the S20 FE?

    • For me it would be the s20 Fe 5g, for the SD card reader alone. The main differences after that are aesthetics and size. Performance goes to the sd865 in the Fe but it's not as big a lead as it used to be with last year's Exynos.

    • Also S20FE. Though it's worth comparing the two and seeing which features matter to you.

    • Do you want a bigger display/SD card support vs Faster SoC/More ram?

      • The articles and youtube reviews I saw showed the SD865 being the overall faster chip, but thanks I wasn't aware that the S21 started with 8GB ram vs the S20FE's 6GB. I think that makes it far more compelling than the SOC if you like to keep your apps open in the background. That SD card reader if you take a lot of pics and videos is a life saver.

Can anyone tell me where I can buy a galaxy s20 5g, not FE. I prefer a smaller gimbal-friendly phone.

Is this Model compatible with the Telstra network?
