  • Need to ask, this one or the Acer Nitro?

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-nitro-5-15-6-inch-i5-10…

    Similar price, need advice!

What do you need more? The Acer has a 3060 which is a lot better than the 1650. but has only 8GB of ram and 512GB SSD. Where as the Lenovo has 512+1TB and 16gb ram. If you are getting it for a bit of everything, maybe consider the Lenovo. If not, then maybe the Acer.

I'd be inclined to point out the Acer Nitro has an Intel CPU and not a Ryzen as well.

        Ryzen > Intel

The Lenovo also has double the cores. And I'd say most people would rather Lenovo over Acer in general (in terms of build quality at least).

The Acer Nitro has a good GPU but the quad core Intel i5 CPU will be a big bottle neck in games supporting more than 4 cores. Considering both Xbox and PS5 consoles have 8 core AMD Ryzen CPUs, developers will be optimising games for 8 cores on PC as well. Nitro build quality is also decidedly budget.

The Lenovo has a much better 8 core AMD CPU, more RAM and storage. However the 1650ti GPU is a slower then the 3060. Lenovo's build quality is also better then Acer's.

      • Thanks for the two responses! I think given longevity will be a factor, I will go the Lenovo. 1650ti isn’t near the 3060 of course, but the RAM might be more important to me. Cheers!

Can you not upgrade the ram and storage though? On the acer one I mean

          • @mushi33: you sure can.
I have the Acer Nitro 5 an515-45 and ive upgraded both nvme's and the 2.5 hdd AND the ram.

  • Any recommendations on a 13" with 16GB ram and 512GB HDD in current sales?

    • What will you use it for? Need a GPU?

      • Nah I don't need a GPU.

Will just be for general purpose work stuff (programming)

        • I've been looking for something similar with good keyboard, decent screen and battery life. XPS 13 looks pretty good and is on sale on Dell website and eBay (depending on the sales) or could try Dell outlet. I think all of the XPS range are Intel though and AMD seems to be the better buy at the moment.

I'm also tempted by the M1 MacBooks, just not sure if I can run everything I need without VMs and then I'm not sure if 16GB would cut it.

Other options are Thinkpad X1 Carbon (haven't found it on sale), ThinkPad T series, or maybe HP X360.

    • The AMD Ryzen 4800u, 8 core based Lenovo S540 13" would have been a good option at $1106, but is now sold out. It has a QHD 16:10 IPS screen, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD and all aluminium build. I have had one for over 6 months and it's great.

  • How does this compare against ASUS TUF A15, for general usage (e.g. casual coding, web browsing, typing documents) and light gaming (e.g. Apex Legend)?

    • +1

Both have the same AMD Ryzen 4800h 8 core CPU and will easily fly through the workloads you mentioned. Gaming wise the A15 has better GPU options which will perform better on Apex Legends. However the 2020 version of the A15 had inadequate ventilation and cooling, which was rectified on the 2021 version with the AMD 5000 series CPUs. The Lenovo has better build quality and cooling then the 2020 version of the A15, but a much smaller battery.
