I have one of these and you’re right, there is no separate tray for softener but there is the conventional tray for detergent. I’ve had other idos machines and not ever had a problem with the dosing system. It’s really handy.
This also means that you need to use a diluted softener (for it to work in i-DOS) as the viscosity of the concentrated softener is too thick.

No, the code doesn't work if you don't select afterpay as the payment method. I didn't have afterpay account either, just created it today as I have seen quite a few deals with afterpay. You can even make partial payment with afterpay in order to use the code and get 15% off.

I bought choice gift cards https://www.cashrewards.com.au/choice-gift-card. These get you $15 (1.5%) off on $1000 purchase. I bought 2 for $500 each. The only painful step is to convert/swap these into ebay giftcards ($200 + $200 + $100).
Final amount was - $1000 on gift cards (got $15 back in cash rewards) and then $255 with afterpay.
