Holy (profanity) hell. Please people do not ever join Flip!!!

I made the great mistake of joining them them about 2 years ago. They are so abusive on the phone, they yelled at me and everything except swear. Black Collections is even far far worse. For about the first two months they would text me a minimum of every second day, telling me to pay the "debt", telling me that my bank account will be "garnished", and I will go to "prison"…… It all took a severe toll on my mental health (which was already had), and pushed me to suicidal thoughts, and self harming.
Throughout the whole fiasco I always talked politely, never yelled on the phone. Flip and especially Black Collections were extremely abusive - I was told "that's a load of crap" "that's rubbish".

      • I'll write up a in depth reply, just don't have the time, I'll reply with a more detailed reply in a couple of hours when I'm free.

Also, Black Collections would text me up to 3 times a day and email me up to 3 times a day. I say "up to" because that only lasted for about 8 weeks. During this time Flip also bombarded me with text messages up to 3 times a day, and emails up to 3 times, as before I say "up to" because it only lasted for about 8 weeks

      • I had a debt referred to a collection agency years ago when I moved properties and at some point they found my phone number and started being abusive after about the 3rd call I told them I will never pay them I don't care if they take me to the supreme court. I contacted the original company (Optus) in the end (about 6 months after they started calling me) and said I'd pay half of the legitimate starting debt (without all the collection, late fee garbage) & suprisingly they took it. I literally said I would've been happy to pay it but when the first contact is some aggressive arsehole who then keeps calling after agreeing to give me time to look into it I figured a 50% discount for pain and suffering was in order.
My point is these guys are bullies, give them nothing and the second they start being aggressive or continuing to call after you've already talked to them you need to tell them straight out you aren't feeling with them and the original debter needs to call you. Also record the calls as Australian standards are fairly strict so if they threaten or call you after hours or more that a certain number of calls they can lose their licence.
Sorry that got me back into anger mode, besides my own issue I've helped out a few friends with guys like that.
Greedy bastards usually pay cents on the $ for rights to the debt then intimidate people for huge profit.

It all started a couple of days after I purchased a plan from Flip. I got a phone call from a man from Flip, he was rude on the phone, he was going off about how I haven't paid for my Flip service that bought online a couple of days, saying that 'I hadn't paid for the service when I bought it online' 😳…… I told him I had, I went through the checkout online, I then checked my bank account and the money was debited from my bank account and it said 'processing'. So through some talking he told me that Flip would debit the money on Monday as it's only possible for debits to happen on Monday due to their system. I explained to him it'll have to wait until my next pay day as I'm currently broke, after telling him this he started to be rude and aggressive again.
After the phone call I checked my bank account and the money that was listed as 'processing' gone. So that's not my fault that their charge to my bank account was 'processing' and then was gone.

Hmmmm I think I'll just skip the detailed communication, and just give the pointers. I don't have the capacity to start dragging this all up, and I'm sure no one here wants to read a wall of text.

Flip double billed me on my first month. It took me about a year of arguing and the ombudsman to fix this.

In my second month I arranged to have my speed tier increased from 25mbps to 50mbps for my third month with them. However Flip sent me two bills for my third month, one bill for the 25mbps and the other bill for 50mbps. It took about a year of arguing and the ombudsman to get this fixed.

By the end of my third month I had enough of Flip, and so I phoned the up told them not to renew my contract for next month, and I joined Tangerine 3 days before my Flip plan ran out. Despite this Flip continued to bill me for 2 months for the 50mbps plan…….

I phoned and emailed Flip over a dozen times to get it sorted out.
A few months had passed now, and at this time I get a phone call from Black Collections. I cannot tell you how rude and aggressive Black Collections were, I was yelled at and everything short of swearing.
Flip had passed on the 2 bills that they billed me for after I left them…… These 2 bills came to about $130 dollars, however Black Collections was trying to recover $153 from me. I sent and made numerous phone calls and emails to Black Collections, I tried to explain, I sent screenshots from when I joined Tangerine, and I also requested that Black Collections send me a itemized breakdown on the money they are trying to recover from me but Black was just ignored my requests.

I believe the extra $23 was a debt collection fee that Black Collections was trying to charge me. I read Flips T&C and there was nothing saying that a debt collector can charge a fee - debt collectors can only charge a debt collection fee if it's stated on the original T&C of the product or service bought.

The whole ordeal took a large toll on my mental health. It got so bad that my mental health worker at the time had to help me write emails, make phone calls, and even got me some free legal advice on what Black Collections can do. The person who gave the legal advice had a bit of a chuckle, told me there's nothing Black Collections can do other than to take me to court and in which case they'll lose, but they are very unlikely to do that for only $153, and in short there's nothing to worry about.

On another note Flip never admitted to me that their billing was wrong. When they cancelled the incorrect bills they said it was a "gesture of goodwill"……. Also, they cancelled the wrong bill for the third month i.e. they cancelled the bill for the 50mbps and not the 20mbps and so now my account is in $10 credit……

That's just the short version, it didn't include all the abusive language, the yelling, phoning me outside of hours etc.

        • Wow that's longer than I thought.

Forgot to mention, while the billing with Flip is kind of fixed (I'm in credit) Black Collections is still pursuing me.

I am with flip more then 3 years now. No issues whatsoever. Very happy with speed and customer service. Outages come and go but its not their fault. Do get txt msgs for planned outages. Also their tech support is very helpful. On 50/20 plan paying 64.90/month once this offer was expired when i joined. Just sharing my experience as I see lot of bad reviews and experiences in this comments

      • "Outages come and go but its not their fault."
        How?

        "On 50/20 plan paying 64.90/month"
Why? Tangerine/Spintel is 55/m, Superloop/Internode/Leaptel is 60/m, or you could get 100/20 with myrepublic for 70/m.

Was referring to planned outages. Unplanned outages are very rare in my area.
Also with other lower plans with different ISP, I guess i never bothered to look around as I was happy with their service. But yes thanks for bringing this up might give them a call

I'm with them and so far no issues. See my comment in the previous thread
There are other comments there to help you decide

    • I joined Flip for a month, and had some issues connecting. Sometimes it would take a few minutes to get a connection, sometimes a few hours. Once it was connected, it stayed that way, but I couldn't turn off my PC or I'd have the same issue.

I cancelled after the first month, and they simply never sent me a bill. In the client portal my connection was never set to active, so no idea what the problem was, but I got a free month of kind of terrible internet.

Also, I had a hard time getting them to give me the PPPoE login details. For some reason they wanted me to give them the NTD serial number and jump through various hoops. I did eventually manage to convince them to just give me the login details. At first they wanted me to write them down, but I convinced them to email them to me so I could cut and paste. The guy on the phone seemed pretty angry for some reason.

  • Just completing my 6 months with flip. Called to cancel expecting them to say 30 days notice required as per T+Cs. They are letting me cancel with 5 days notice. I didn't even ask.

    • That's odd. I am in same boat as you….for cancellation they said i need to give them 14 days notice….which provider you jumping to?

  • Can anyone provide me with a referral code for Flip NBN?

    Thanks

  • If someone can please refer me?

  • Can I get a referral please?

  • Can someone please send me a Referral?

Need your Name & Account number.

You can reply here or PM.

    Thanks!

  • Word of warning. I'm with Flip and tried to add a static IP for cameras/Plex etc etc. They told me it would be done within 24 hours, last Wednesday (it's now the next Tuesday) and instead, without any communication they took my NBN offline for "3-5 business hours" in the middle of the work day, Monday while they "switch me to another network". It's still offline as of now.. atrocious service.

  • it is now advertised as $59/mth for 50Mbps plan, so the pricing is different!
