Typical of most Google (Nexus / Pixel) devices, crap battery capacities. If they stuck 4000mAh in it for reasonable battery life, wouldn't hurt that much.

    • +9

I don't why you getting negative vote but I used it for almost 2 year and it had one of the worst battery life among all the phone I have used.

      • +1

My Pixel 3a battery started strong but is pretty crap now after 2 years.

        • +1

You need to research 20-80 rule for lithium batteries. The problem isn't exclusive to pixel phones.

          • +2

@TEER3X: But it is just worse then battery degrades over time. If you lose 20% from 3000mAh you only got 2400 left. Of you lose 20% from 4000mAh you still got more capacity than this phone new.

20-80 rules is worse when you have a small battery. You literally need to carry a battery pack or be near a wall socket.

            • @netjock: True, the funny thing is 5000 mah is what you see in a lot of mid tier phones now. So it’s gonna be a massive advantage over this phone. The pixels selling points have been support and camera. The problem for google, companies are catching up in both areas but are better in many of the areas you have to compromise on with pixels devices.

            • @netjock: How much are you using your phone?

My pixel 3a lasts me all day, also use GPS to and from work 45 min each way.

If you're gaming on it, then sure, you needed a larger battery.

My battery will outlast the rest of the phone.

I do agree however 3000mah is way too small for heavy use.

        • +7

          Wtf are you talking about?

        • You are confusing Android with Google devices. Lithium in general has these issues. I gave my old iPhone 6s to my dad, he sent it back and said he doesn't want it anymore because the battery doesn't last an afternoon.

          • +1

@Kontiki: Capacity and stamina after 20% degradation on a 4000mAh battery after 2 years is a lot better than 20% on a 3000mAh.

iPhones have the same problem. Small batteries to keep phones slim.

It also depends on cycles and depth of discharge how well your battery condition is after 2 years.

            • @netjock: It’s because Google want you to buy a new pixel phone after two years, same with Apple. Putting bigger batteries in that’ll offer good battery life on a 2 year plus device isn’t gonna help persuade the user to replace their older phone.

        out of stock man

        ozbargained!

  • Is it worth getting this for the sake of High quality unlimited upload to Google Photos… very tempted as I really do not want to pay for Google One ongoing!

    • +2

Just to avoid any confusion for those reading, unlimited 'high quality' uploads isn't the 'original quality'.

Google is renaming 'high quality' to 'storage saver' soon to make it easier to understand. Ref

Meanwhile, Google Photos is renaming “High quality” backup tier to “Storage saver” to make the options “easier to understand.” There is no underlying or technical change in quality.

    • +2

Those with an older Pixel 3 continue to get unlimited free storage at Original quality for all photos and videos uploaded till January 31, 2022.

      Not much time left either.

    • -4

I would say no, since unlimited free storage ended on 1/6.

      • +6

        For Pixel 3:

You get unlimited free storage at Original quality for all photos and videos backed up to Google Photos from Pixel 3 through Jan 31, 2022. Photos and videos backed up on or before that date will remain free at Original quality. After January 31, 2022 new photos and videos will be backed up in Storage saver quality (previously named High quality) for free. Photos and videos backed up in Original quality will count toward your Google Account storage.

        • +2

I did not realize that. Thank you for clarifying.

  • This was still in stock 5 minutes ago, why OOS soon?

    • +34

Because the stock, they are out of it.

  • I'm using the pixel 3xl and already using the android 12 (beta) so I guess you will be able to update this one as well

  • Crazy bargain!
Well done to those who scored one.

  • +1

it is a good phone, I had one for a while

got a premium feel to it, and a good camera

    battery life sucks though

    • Battery is important so what’s the point then…

      • Get a battery phone cass

      • +2

good for people who drive uber cars, and phone never leaves charger

in my experience, sometimes the phone won't survive a full day of moderate heavy use on a single charge, so I returned it

now I am using a Vivo X50 Lite I got for $215 and it's been fantastic. OLED display, NFC, good CPU, plenty of space. cameras aren't bad at all, so I think it's perfect

  • Still available, but at $320. Need to change seller…

    • +1

      That is listed as used.

      Used - Like New
      $320.61

I don’t know anyone with a google pixel. I always see them discounted but are they still worth with such a price tag? I usually prefer 1000 times more an iPhone…

    • I bought this phone for both my mum and dad. They haven't had any issues except that the ringtone is pretty quiet even at loudest setting with a 'loud' ringtone. This is because the ringtone only plays through 1 of the 2 speakers. If you work in a noisy environment and/or have poor hearing then I think it will be a problem. But at this price it's incredibly good value. Even at ~$380 it's a good buy I think.

    • +1

Thery are alright phones. Nothing special hardware-wise. Camera (computation) is great, photo wise (video was disappointing) You get one of these for the tight integration with Google services, same reason why you'd probably get an iPhone.

    • +1

I go back and forth between a Pixel 3XL and iPhone 11 Pro Max. They both have their strengths and weaknesses but I enjoy using them equally.

  • +1

Might be a great deal, but i personally can't deal with pixel battery life, regardless of price.

    • +1

Get a P5 and never look back

      • -1

I also can't deal with the fact that it's only got one main camera on the back, can't do without the ultrawide, and the zoom and macros are handy also

        • P5 has 2 rear cameras

        • +1

          Its got the Ultrawide, nephew.

          • @Uncle Roger: Sorry I was referring to the p4, probably should ha e clarified that

  • +1

Great deal. Camera (software) is still great.

  • +1

Excellent phone, crazy bargain at this price!

  • +2

I've had this phone for 2 years. Still pretty good. I do everything but games. Battery life is shockingly terrible and it's what I'm looking forward to most in my next phone. Ram management was also atrocious but it's much better now

  • Not getting why this phone's so popular. Are people buying it to upload photos to Google Drive?
