[QLD] ASUS 15.6" F15 TUF Dash Laptop (Core i7, 16GB, 512GB, RTX 3070) - $1997 @ Officeworks

230

Saw officeworks have the Asus F15 TUF 3070 laptop for $1997 again which seems to be a regular price for this machine. Not in stock near me but available for free delivery. Keep in mind the TDP of this RTX 3070 is only 85W so definitely worth checking out RTX 2000 series machines or stepping up to a better TDP 3000 series laptop. Also appears to have HDMI 2.0b rather than HDMI 2.1 which is disappointing and takes away a big reason for going 3000 series IMO, but if you want something ASAP here it is.

Just a reminder, the cpu is 4 cores, and GPU is only 85w, so it is not that powerful as you may think.

I didn't even notice it's only a 4 core CPU, that's a bit rough in addition to the 85W 3070 and no HDMI 2.1. I was tempted initially but i'm glad I spent the extra to get a Legion 5 Pro.

Yeah, 11th generation i7 running as a quad core is the biggest marketing bollocks that Intel has run with. i5 at best should be where the quad cores finish up.

Got one from the last deal at this same price. I am stepping up from an Acer Predator with an i5 8th gen and a GTX 1060. With all the talk of a 4 core CPU and a TDP-limited GPU, I must say that the performance levels of this laptop are pretty good! I'm talking about real-world performance here, not TimeSpy scores (which, no doubt, are an important barometer). I have also used a Zephyrus G14 with Ryzen 9 4900HS, and the TUF Dash comes out on top for me. Thermals were a pleasant surprise (but my benchmark with the Acer was a tad low anyways), and non-gaming battery life was simply the icing on the cake.

    • That's good to hear, it may have it's downsides but I think it's alright at $2k considering full TDP 3070 machines are around an extra $800.

      • The portability and battery life were the real deal clincher for me. Apart from the Zephyrus, this was the only laptop powerful enough for gaming, and suitable enough for a full workday.

    • Hi. Can you play minecraft with ray tracing decently?
Wondering if it would be suitable for my son.

      • Yes it runs easily at the highest settings, no sweat :)

  • I sent this back after doing some research.

The regular tuff is a better buy on eBay 1899 ATM but keep and eye out as it's gone down to 1799 recently

Albeit it's only 3060 but better CPU to handle that GPU

Asus have very recently released pretty much the exact same laptop with an 11800H, which goes to show they are acknowledging that the CPU is a bottleneck.

It is a decent laptop at a reasonable price, especially if your using it as a more portable machine and require very good battery life

However if you are purchasing it as a machine purely for gaming and plan on keeping it a few years, I would recommend the Asus G513QM-HF012T, which was $2159 from wireless1 on eBay during the 10% off deal from a fortnight ago and should hopefully be even cheaper as we are going into EOFY sales. This PC has an AMD 5800H with 8 cores 16 threads and an RTX3060 130Watts which will provide better performance than the limited 3070 at 85 Watt.

Also there are currently multiple deals to be had on last gens Intel 10850H RTX2070 and RTX2070 Super systems for similar prices that will perform much better in gaming and multicore processing.

    • Doesn't seem like a bad recommendation for the asus but regarding the multiple deals for 10850H and 2070 how low is the lowest we are talking $2200? $2000? Got any examples?

    • Is the G513QM-HF012T worth it at $2399 when it is not on special or does it push it closer to better deals in that price range?

      • No best in class pricing in the past IMO was 5800h plus 3070 lenovo legion 5 pro for $2460-ish since that machine doesn’t throttle etc and what’s more it has a 1440p+ screen think 1600 but at 16:10 as compared to 1080p for these

        The $1600 I paid for a 5i 2060 @ 115w is still holding up OK so far

I’m looking at passing it on when I get an awesome deal on a 3 series

        • I can't even buy that laptop at full price. Only the 3060 version is coming up for me.

  • CPU bottleneck super hard, even comparable to some 2060 laptop with better CPU at some games. Plus all games nowadays somewhat require multi-core performance, this would not be ideal for current-gen even though it has a current-gen GPU

  • Also on the page listing.

This laptop is eligible for a $50 cashback via redemption from Intel.*

    *This promotion runs from the 17th May 2021 — 30th June 2021

  • Keep in mind, the 85W on the GPU and the significant bottleneck with the CPU makes this a fairly weak device.

You're looking at sub-RTX 2070 performance from what I've seen.

  • Hear the new AMD GPU RX 6800 are coming and are great.

For those that are wondering, these do 45MH/s mining ethereum.

    • That is more the hard drive not the cpu/gpu?

      • No, the RTX3070 graphics card. Even though it's limited to 85W, it still gets about 3/4 the hashrate of a desktop 3070.

    • All i get is black screens while it mines in the background. Care to share ur oc tweaks??

  • Bought this laptop on the officeworks deal around 2 weeks ago I'm currently getting display flickering issues
