  • I was looking at something similar to this yesterday. I need a battery camera that can run locally with my home assistant, any chance this will do it?

    • If you don't need it recording 24/7. I have the argus 2 which I imagine this would operate similarly. It only records/notifies when it senses movement which may miss people walking in and out very quickly dependent on your angle.

I've used it with Alexa and it's fine.

Have had it for over a year and with the solar panel I haven't had to touch it at all (battery wise)

    • I have POE ones at the moment that are linked to Home Assistant so I can display images in LoveLace as well as click through for Live Feed - works very well.

The Reolink App is also really good.

      • +1

I am worried about security issues, can I run it locally by blocking it from internet? Which integration are you using?

      • Hey Iceborg, can you have the POE ones connected to google home + record 24/7 to Synology?

I've read you cant connect to google if going via the reolink provided nvr so just wondering if its the same for synology.

          Hi,

I don't run the NVR on the 410's that I have.

You can definitely run it locally and block the internet connection to Reolink, but you won't get the mobile apps - in that case get an SD card in to it.

Once on your network you can use api call to connect to it over a private IP… e.g.

          http://192.168.1.1/cgi-bin/api.cgi?cmd=Snap&channel=0&am…

You'll need to get it out of the app for the ReolinkGUID and enter your account username and password. I haven't tested this with it being completely off the internet for auth, but don't see why not. You use the same codes to hook up to home assistant and lovelace. No integrations yet, just quick visuals of the cameras, the rest is controlled by the Reolink app. For the URL you can also do a guest account that can just view information as opposed to an admin account that can configure, if that helps with your security.

As mine are POE with the switch and firewall running over a UPS, if someone cuts the power to my place it'll still be powered for a good 15-20 minutes along with the NBN router. I've got mine to upload using a generic google account so when I'm out and get an email from that mailbox I know the devices have captured something - worth taking a look at rather than storing it locally too.

          Hope that helps.

          • @iceborg: That's awesome info mate. I'm also planning to hook it up to a UPS as well but if I can't have google + synology 24/7 then I guess I can live without the google side.

Going to look at the google cloud storage option too.

            Thanks again :)

    • Just as a follow up now that I have this battery operated camera.

I've now found that the RTSP protocol required for Home Assistant isn't supported on the battery cameras and is only available on certain models - so worth taking that in to consideration.

It still works well within the Reolink app, just can't have it on my Home Assistant video panel :(

      • Thanks for the info, how about the Reolink Integration?

  • Get Argus 2 if you want better night vision, 2E doesn't have Starlight night vision.

    • What's 2's video quality like? I have the orginal Argus, it's pretty good, but not really sharp.

      • +1

Good when there's a spot/flood light nearby to light up the area.
Night vision isn't that great IMO.

  • Is it worth than Ring solar panel stick up cam?

I have the argus 2. Only just installed it after sitting there forever.

    1. I'm surprised how slowly the solar charges it. Five days to add 10% battery. I hope it's ok in winter.
    2. Wireless is awful. It's about 5m from the router (albeit three single leaf brick walls) and can't do FHD resolution.
    3. No exclusion Zoe's on motion sensing.

But it's not awful for $120.

    • Cheers for the feedback. I was looking at the argus 2 to replace my original arlo

    • Wow. If I were you I’d ask for a replacement. My solar panel kept the battery at 100% for a full year (moved house so haven’t set it back up yet).

Wireless was actually OK for me as well? And that was using the awful ZTE router from Exeter.

For the exclusion zones, I think that’s the norm for battery operated cameras? No exclusion zones unless mains powered.

The biggest let down is the 1 camera only free for the cloud + having to renew the free plan every 30 days 🙃🙃🙃

    • Sounds like you need to position the solar panel better or you have a faulty one. It is slow but should be fully charged in under a day comfortably.
I have 3 cameras, one is in the garage so no solar panel but I just rotate batteries. I took it off this morning at 8% and it's at 75% now. My driveway camera triggers every other minute as it captures a lot of the street and it's constantly fully charged. Only time it dropped % was when the solar panel moved in the wind. Fixed it back up and it's been fine since.

  • I'm getting $133.22 after applying the code to the Argus 2E and the black solar panel.

    • Hi Flagger, the final price should be $117.70. Ccould you message me with your order number and I can check it out?

      • Haven't made an order, just sitting in the checkout stage.

        • That's weird. It's $126.86 without applying the code.

          • @dealbest: I'm on mobile, the camera is 98.55 and the solar panel is 41.79

edit: I see the problem, you have to select the camera + solar panel combo when adding the camera to the cart. I was adding each item individually. The coupon was still working with the individually added items.

            • +1

@flagger: Glad you found the problem

  • Have the camera, but not the solar. Charge it probably once every 6 weeks.

  • Any deals on the poe dome cameras. Looking to buy one to hook up to the cloud.

  • I've starting looking at home security cameras this week.

I'm thinking about setting up 3-4 around the outside of my house.
I'm very new to this but this is appealing as I'm looking for something wireless, motion detection and live view using my phone.

Would buying 3-4 of these be better than say the eufy 2c wire-free with home base?
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/eufy-2c-wire-free-hd-secu…

Can anyone weigh in on a comparison or what they use that can be recommended?

    Cheers.
