What is it supposed to protect you from? Cuts to the forehead? Wouldn't do much more than that.

  The main use of these is to prevent contusions and other damage - think rugby union prop forwards and cauliflower ear.

    Actually it's mainly just preventing the puffy ears and some are more prone to cuts in the forehead area which this helps with.
