Castrol EDGE Engine Oil 10W-30 5 Litre $31.49 (Was $62.99) + Delivery ($0 with $99 Spend/ C&C) @ Supercheap Auto

400

Alright so this isn't the OzBargains favourite as its NOT the 5W-30 however if your car can take it this is a good price none the less. I know winter is approaching which is probably why these are on sale so ideally you would want a 5W-30 but honestly I don't know if its going to make that much of a difference - I'm not a car expert just read your manual. If it can take this oil then thats all you need to know. I have a Camry and this stuff works perfectly fine at least here where I live it doesn't dip below 0 degrees. Otherwise you can save this oil when you do your next summer change.

If you really want a Full Synthetic oil at 5w-30 SCA also has their Castrol Magnatec line on sale (same shit as the Edge imo just odd marketing now at this point) for $35.99 here.

As far as I could tell their Magnatec line used to be Semi-synthetic oil which is why they were normally cheaper and always used to be on sale. However now a days it seems like their Magnatec line also sells Full-synthetic oil. I do have one question for Ozbargainers and thats does anyone know what the "DX" means on their? Is it for fuel efficiency?

i'm subscribed to SCA deals on here, and forgot to use my $10 voucher last time, so it hurts when i get notified as a reminder

  • The 5w-30 is $37 at Repco

    • but its more expensive plus delivery

Well you could always consider this 5W-30, 0W-30 and 5W-40 - limited stock but every bit as good as the Edge offering (IMHO) and 50%+ per litre cheaper. Just sayin'….

I've already bought 20 litres of this, please don't tempt me to buy more lol

  • 10w30 is generally better for older engines, but it all really comes down to what works best for your car and is within manufacturer specs. Dino oil may even work better for a tired old engine, best to ask a knowledgeable mechanic and do some research on car specific forums.

Has very little relevance to australian conditions

Both 5w30 and 10w30 will provide exactly the same engine wear protection, when warm they have the same viscosity.

The 10w30 will be thicker when cold, providing less protection at startup (as it won't reach all the narrow areas of the engine as quickly). There is zero advantage to using 10w30 over 5w30. You want to use 5w40 (or 10w40) in an older engine

      • Doesnt the 10 refer to 10C and the 5 refer to 5C, and they have the same viscosity at each. So if your engine is 10C plus there is no diff?

        • No, it's the minimum viscosity at temperature 0 F for that oil

At 'cold' Australian temperatures (say 10c, 50F) they will be almost the same)

        • Nah, it's an abstract number scale that the Society of Automotive Engineers developed as a reference to the 'kinematic viscosity' of oils:

It is on eBay SCA too. Probably the best time to redeem plus $50 sign up voucher on it with something else.

  • do these go on sale every year?

    • Multiple times a year when you look at all the sca and repco deals. I made the mistake years ago of buying 2 every sale till I had 10 or so containers.
Still got a few left im slowly using.

  • Thanks v much, bought for next service.

  • been waiting for this, thanks champ

  • Don't forget 8% discount on sca gift cards from suncorp/aami benefits, which brings price down to $29.

  • Thanks OP.
Perfect timing as my xtrail is due for a service and uses this oil.

  • again no sale on Castrol Edge 5w-30 LL :(

Can anyone purchase 2 in eBay? I keep getting qty error during check out

    • SCA seems to limit all products to one per location and refresh back later. So you may not be able to buy 2 at one time.

In other words, SCA does not want eBay as their main channel to sell products. Maybe stock level tracking issue too.

      • Ok, so I put only 1 in cart and added something else to make it $70 total. Now I'm getting error about unable to choose pick up option even though they're both in stock at my local store. SCA and eBay are a match in heaven of time wasting fcuking PITA mob to deal with. I give up.
