Folks,

Just stumbled across this - amazing pricing on top quality oils. Suitable for both Petrol or Diesel (both are DPF suitable) vehicles, check the weight and grade API etc needed in your car.

This is genuine top shelf quality oil from a first tier maker in Caltex, check the ratings/grades on both of them - they compare well with any of the premium blends.

Both products are at the type of prices that are below what you see for 5L bottles - so that these are both 10 LITRES is a terrific buy.

Repco has these on clearance, so there is still good stock levels but they will go quickly at these prices.

    • Oils are fairly easy to compare; their specifications are always listed on their websites and bottles. (Not just weight; tested ratings its been able to meet)

      Also, if youve been doing it for 6 years, did you ever get a Used Oil Analysis?
      If so, you can change with another oil and compare the UOA of that one.

      Only an oil analysis will tell you if you should change.

        With the price of this oil an oil analysis will cost you the same as 5-10 oil changes if you do them yourself.

        You drive something fancy, especially with a turbo, sure get an oil analysis done.

            A Corolla would take less than 4 litres of oil, you do the math. Filters are extra, we are discussing oil.

            I was just making a general point, an oil analysis on a well maintained Corolla is ludicrous.

              Thats not the point; the OP is showing brand loyalty; in order to be doing so, I assumed he had some reason.

              If its simply "it didnt break yet" then there's an analytical thoguht process missing; why would you consider it "good" as opposed to simply "adequate"?

              A person with logic needs more than "it didnt break it" to assume "its the best choice".

              For someone to stick with one of the most expensive brands for 6 years, id assume he has a founded reason.

              If not; well, why advise anything? The person is making choices on hearsay.

    • Honestly you'd be for all intents and purposes splitting hairs. IF you wanted to make a genuine difference you'd change your oil every 5,000kms (you can leave the filters in place and do every 2nd change).

      You should actually find using a petrol & diesel rated oil a benefit as diesel oils tend to have a lot more detergents and other goodies in them to meet the more stringent diesel grades than the same priced petrol only oils.

      The thing at this price is that it has all the major grades covered and is cheap enough that you can do your 5k and then dump.

  • Yes, I googled and found little experience with these oils. So held off buying. But keen to hear whether I should be apprehensive or not.

    • Aprehensive? No. Its SAE certified, so it will meet the viscosity requirements it advertises.

        Obviously prefer to use something with good reports behind it.

          I build engines. Im also a huge oil nerd.

          I assure you, most people wouldnt know the difference between their sulfated ash count and their molybdenum.

          For the layman; make sure its SAE rated to your weight, make sure it meets the OEM standards you want it to, then use it.

          Its has to pass tests to get sae certified.

      • Glad to have helped - sad thing is I didn't grab any at all myself as I literally have around 40L of C3 rated oil onhand already - though rest assured at this price I did consider grabbing some but just don't have the room to store it and even with 5k changes 40L is like 3-4yrs worth already. :-/

      I would not recommend putting anything without VW504/507 certification in your car. This is not certified for your car

  • Hmmmm well I thought that $4/L for a C3 rated oil was pretty damn good - unsure if there's ever been one much cheaper on OzB - is a bummer the stock is a tad spotty but still pretty good from the limited checking I did. To contrast this older deal was 25% more per L (only $1 more at $5/L) and yet seemingly much more well received - go figure:

    From everything I've read getting too wound up in which is the absolute BEST oil is wastefull, unless you're driving a very high end car or doing performance driving - instead stick with an oil that meets the grade on your car and then as regularly as possible change the oil itself. I'm amazed with how cheap top quality oil is that folks regularly stick with 15,000km intervals just because the makers say to do so….not to mention the folks who go much longer between changes. DIY oil change is so simple and quick.

    • The reason to do long OCI's is because modern synthetic style oils can do it without causing engine wear. I've done UOA on several different oils that I use in my car (2010 Prius) and after 20K km in the sump the oil specifications are still acceptable. My car is at 325K kms and going strong btw, no oil burning or loss of power, plus when I popped the valve cover to replace a weeping gasket, everything was very clean with no sludge and very little varnish.

      Changing oil too often is wasteful, both environmentally and financially, so if you can use your oil for longer without causing additional engine wear as proven by UOA and personal experience, why not do it?

        I've been unable to find decent used stats on that 0w-16 they spec, I'm really interested in HOW it wears.

        • My Prius is a ZVW30R series released in 2009 and it's minimum viscosity spec is 0W-20. 0W-16 wasn't specced until the ZVW50R series released in 2016, so I can't help you sorry, I run 5W-30 exclusively.
