    Amazing value for money

just that the 8GB Soldered DDR might not be enough in a long term (in 2021) :(

    • +5

Unfortunately yes :( and there's no option to expand either..
It should be illegal in 2021

      • Should be illegal since 1202, its not a console or refrigerator after all.

Don't worry, you can get more RAM if needed: downloadmoreram.com

Good enough, and for a long time, for the category of people looking to spend this kind of sum. Certainly not good for the category of people that want to spend $800 and have the benefits of a $2000 computer

      • Certainly not good for the category of people that want to spend $800 and have the benefits of a $2000 computer

Yeah some people here have dumb expectations. No you're not getting a GPU and 4k for $800, get real.

      • In my experience, RAM and HDD/SSD fail first on notebooks.

  • +1

At that price it's about what it should be.

good bright screen, powerful APU … 8 GB RAM.
Still good value and good for a lightweight school notebook. Show me a better ultra portable option for $800
8 GB RAM should be fine for several years if you make some effort to debloat Windows a bit.

    • I've noticed the price on Acer Swift (with 11th gen i5 ) at Hardly Normal has fluctuated between $700 and and $1200. Just have to be patient and wait for deals.

I jumped at paying $800 to get it . A few weeks later saw it for $697 .

      https://www.harveynorman.com.au/acer-swift-3x-14-inch-15-113…

I've noticed Lenovo AMD gaming machines on sale for sub $1400 as well.

      • looks like a comparable deal for $800 but I doubt the screen is as good as the Lenovo
** if this is the same model then the screen is actually not bad at all. https://laptopmedia.com/au/review/acer-swift-3x-sf314-510g-r…

        • The full code for the i7 model you linked to is (SF314-510G-767Y).

The code for i5 model is (SF314-510G-576A)

Whether the 510G have the same specs other than processor I'm not sure.

      • Hey mate, I remember the acer swift 3x at $798 @ Harvey Norman, then jumped up to $999 few days later while i sat there and pondered..

Where did you see it @ $697?

        That's a pretty good price!

31st of March - I actually had to pick one up for my daughter . I was spewing because I had paid a hundred bucks more a couple of weeks earlier.

Between the two purchases the price jumped- go figure !

    8gb soldered, no deal

    • +3

Have to delete more than half of the laptop deal here in Ozbargain.

    • I think it depends on what you need it to do.

I recently put a second 8 Gb stick of ram in my old i5 Thinkpad, I only got it up to 37% of ram being used, before I stopped loading web pages.

If I was getting a gaming machine I'd put 32 Gb in.

This is a much better deal than that 768p laptop from a few days ago. Soldered RAM sours it a little, but with some smart care and management that can be easily mitigated

  • Will a 60W USB C charge this thing up?

It seems to come with a 65W barrel…

    • +2

very likely yes, I charge my E14 with a samsung 25w and apple 35 chargers quite often :)

      • +1

        Thanks! That's very helpful.

I've got a 60W PD charger and I'm trying to minimise the things that I have to carry!

        Cheers

        • +1

I know with Thinkpads you can use a 45w charger but if you are maxing it out it will slowly drain. I can even use a 5w phone charger to charge it overnight provided its sleeping

  • Does this integrated gpu use that system ram, if so you could have less than 8gb

  • OOS now

    Back in Stock :D

    • Only 6 left now. Was 8 before I bought.

    • +1

      Thanks OP!!!

I missed out but then picked this up today.

I'm about to try van life, hopefully this thing will cover my needs.

      Cheers.

  • Wow, came in two days, shame I wasn't home… ergh

    • Awesome.. How's the initial thoughts on this? A review would be fantastic..

DHL called back and came back! I'm impressed!

It's no X1 Carbon, but its more than adequate being only 3mm thicker and 250g heavier and 1/3rd the price! Build is great but you notice the 250g a little bit in your hands but not in a bag or backpack. Build quality is sturdy and great and the trackpad and keyboard feel nice. Screen looks great but I'm no colourphile.

Otherwise haven't done too much, just setting it up now.

Strange thing I noticed is when I did a warranty lookup it says its out of warranty and has 0 months warranty remaining. It came with a bunch of "upgrade your warranty documentation" so I'm not too sure what's happening here. Surely it comes with a 1 year manufacturer's warranty right?

All in all, amazing product for the price! Thanks again for the heads up!
