Lenovo Thinkpad E495 - AMD Ryzen 5 3500U 8GB RAM 256GB SSD Win10H

Usual issues with low quality screens (250nits), but sounds like a decent machine for casual surfing/the parents/streaming movies.

Usual issues with low quality screens (250nits),

This is actually way worse than the E495's that we're used to seeing posted last year. This version has a TN display with 768p resolution.

There's not many good laptops on sale on Lenovo atm and this is actually one of the worst ones. Maybe checkout the Slim 5 for $799 instead.

Ewww. Just when you think Lenovo can't scrape the barrel any harder they go ahead.

      • so what kinda resolution is needed to be a decent laptop?

    • 768p in 2021, nice

    Forget the nits…. It's 1366x768.

      no nitpicking?

      • You won't be able to see em at this resolution

      • If i was nitpicking I would have pointed out that it's only 220nits, not 250.

I saw "ThinkPad" and "Ryzen" and was so stoked, but really? 768p? In 2021? ON A THINKPAD??

    • Edge is the budget range.

  • Check Amazon, many laptop better than this for the same range price.

768p? Gross… TN panel? Disgusting… Decent spec for the price ruined by the monitor.

  • Lenovo just hurls all their bad screens at the Australian market. It's so disappointing. Even high end ThinkPad P's will still have NTSC 45% and 250nits on a $1500 model. Urgh.

Unfortunately they seem to be the only mainline manufacturer backing Ryzen fully on their corporate lines (well as of 6 months ago, maybe HP has started dunno).
What blows my mind is that they don't offer the 400 nit 1080p option that every reviewer / commentator on the internet says is great, its 250 nit, 300-nit with useless touch, or 500 nit with terrible privacy filter WTF (let alone higher res options).

      • Yea this is driving me nuts. You'll watch a review and it's like 400 nit 1080p X1 ryzen for $1200USD. Meanwhile in Aus: $2000 for the same 8gb model of that.

Dont buy this one if you dont want to feel the pain of 1h battery after less than a year of usage…take my words.

  • +3

1080p should be a minimum in this day and age.
