1000 Yums for Booking Restaurant (Worth $20) @ The Fork

870
EAT1000

1000 Yums (worth $20 off a future booking) for booking a restaurant / cafe through The Fork.

Better value if you save 2000 Yums for $50 off (if you use the points before they expire).

Really easy if there is a place you visit regularly, just make a booking via the app and turn up.

Where you can use them is fairly limited, but if you can find one that suits you, its a great deal!

Enjoy

Book on TheFork app between 7 – 10 April, using the code EAT1000 at checkout and earn 1000 Yums, instead of the usual 150!

3 days after your meal, you’ll see your Yums balance topped up.

Once you reach 1,000 Yums, that’s $20 off your next bill at any of the Yums partner restaurants. Or save up and reach 2,000 Yums, and you can get $50 off your next bill.

This code is only valid once.

  • Do you mean Yams ?

When you redeem the points, make sure the restaurant actually deducts the $20 from the bill. It wasn't applied for mine last time because waiter forgot. I only checked after I left the restaurant and the fork refused to refund the points, so the restaurant ended up with the bonus $20. I should've checked but poor customer service from The Fork.

      Very sneaky.
I have had where I booked with 50% off (food only) voucher and then was charged full price. I thought it seemed a bit expensive. I didnt keep the receipt so Fork couldnt do everything

    • So how do you actually redeem it as it's my first time using this.

      • Pretty sure it asks you if you'd like to use the points on the booking you are making, once they are in your account.

The restaurant is supposed then get this coupon with the booking and deduct $20 from your bill.

        • And is the person at the cashier meant to see the deduction?

          • @nightelves: Yes the person at the register is meant to see this and make the deduction from your bill before asking you to pay.

            • @Tech45: Ok thanks gonna try it out as I just accumulated so points for the $50 discount.

              • +4

@nightelves: I always mention the $20/$50 discount once I get to the restaurant and before I order anything and make sure they acknowledge it.

That way, you have a bit more protection as you can refer back to the staff member.

I have never had issues at the actual restaurant using Yums but I find The Fork's customer service to be poor.

        • +1

Just to add on, when you make bookings via The Fork only selected dates and time slots allow you to spend your YUMS so it should be pretty clear but always double check upfront with the restaurant before ordering.

          • @firestint: very true,

also, when you cancel a yums booking, you get the yums back instantly,

    • +1

I always have this issue. Not once has it been noted in the booking. Always have to pull out my phone and show them. Then the server has to go and get the manager. Makes for an awkward experience. I only do it now with the $50 off, not worth it for $20.

    • +2

I fell that the restaurant deliberately “forgot” and trying their luck to have customer to not check the bill.

I had it before for the $50 off, wasn’t a pleasant experience to “argue” with the restaurant.

So easy to get this- just book a coffee somewhere nearby work/home.

My only beef with this is that there are limited places to redeem Yums and the ones that you can redeem at, the food seems overpriced.

    • cost the restaurant $5 per booking

      • interesting. so they basically make a loss if you book for a coffee

        • pretty sure most places tech would make a loss, but would make a gain

as it looks like foot traffic and entices more people in,

      • +2

Just curious, how do you know it costs the restaurant $5 per booking? I was just looking at The Fork's pricing and they have a "Lite" plan which has pricing = Free. Source: https://www.theforkmanager.com/en-au/pricing

        • I thought it was a per head charge and less than $5 for a standard two person booking.

        • Pay-Per-Use: fees are based on cover booked & honored

        • Wonder if a bunch of restaurants are coming off their free trials?

    Worth
    yum
    YUMS
    only
    Worth's
    Yum yum

    $20.

There you go, fixed the description so it makes more sense.

  • Can someone clarify - if I make a booking to redeem Yums, do the other offers (eg 50% off bill) no longer apply? Thanks.

    • +4

Yup offers and yums can only be separately used

    • +1

Also, you cannot claim additional Yums if you are making a booking to redeem Yums.
Something that might mess with this promotion :/

      • Thanks for letting me know. So it seems either redeem yums OR book to earn bonus yums.

        • No worries, and yeah
Spent some yums last weekend as they were gonna expire, didn't get any for the booking ><

  • How does the restaurant record that you have honoured your booking?
Some restaurant staff may not be au fait with the procedure.

    • +1

      "Au fait"

      You must speak French!

    • The restaurant should update the status of booking done/cancelled/no show. I had a reservation marked cancelled when I was running late but staff were able to fix that

  • +4

I believe there are only limited restaurants available to redeem points

    • +1

      1,120 places in Melb
      24 places accept yums
      https://www.thefork.com.au/search/?cityId=342389&restaurantTagId[]=831

      • +1

It's worse than that in Brisbane. Like 7 places all out of the cbd and not even available all the time. Like only Wednesday and Thursday lunch.

  • The Fork App

    Is this similar to Tinder?

    • in both occasion, it is recommended to wear socks so dont forget them

      • Disagree. I can't get enough traction with socks.

    • Depends on what's served. Let your tongue answer that question.

  • +4

Damn, looks like all my points expired. I wish they'd notify you before they disappear. It was really hard to find anywhere that would actually honour the points though.

    • Yes agreed. Wish they send out email reminders say a month before points are about to expire. Maybe one day they'll add that functionality to their system..

    • +7

Hey mate my points expired too. I just hopped onto live chat and said something like "I'm sad I couldn't use my yums and had no idea they were expiring". The agent reinstated my points to use for another year - might be worth a try

      • Ooh interesting, I'll try that

      • +1

Thanks for that, had 700 points expire last month and live chat just reinstated them for me.

        • tip my points were about to expire so i booked a restaurant to redeem points. due to lock down they called me to cancel the booking so i got my points extended for another 60 days

      • +2

Got my 2000 yums back, thanks so much!!!

      • Was it instant?

        • +1

i got my 3600 yums back after chatting online thanks for the tip.

  • Expiry for putting this code with a booking is 10th April, says unknown in the deal post

  • +2

These points have worthless, I've had mine sitting in my ages for years… can't redeem them anywhere

  • +2

I wonder can I use this together with citibank 20% off at meat and wine co, plus free wine? Tonight is the only chance. Time is running out.

  • Does anyone know if the restaurant takes the $20/$50 hit or it comes from the fork?

    • +3

I would guess that the restaurant would claim the money back from The Fork.

  • Can't seem to get it to work, throws an error code :(

    • +2

you need to enter it in the app

  • Not sure how it works… I did a booking and entered the restaurant…. It was pretty empty… But the restaurant guy told me that should be fine and I can sit anywhere… I completed my order, paid and came back just as normal.

  • I usually wait until I have 2000 points, and then find a place that accepts them, and splurge $50 on it

  • +1

There is like 3 restaurants in the whole of Brisbane that accept Yums now

Even the amount of places that allow bookings via the Fork has dropped big time.

Wonder how much longer it will be around…

    • It's owned by TripAdvisor so I'd guess quite a while?

    • +2

Agreed, the number of the restaurants that's bookable through The Fork is quite scarce even in Sydney. Especially compared to a few years ago when The Fork was previously known as Dimmi and before TripAdvisor bought them.

The Fork needs to increase the number of restaurants that use their services and can be booked through The Fork, so that more users will book at one of those restaurants.

  • Wonder how they are going at the moment..
Any good business sheds underperformed arms

    • +1

Well it was bought by TripAdvisor a year or so before covid struck. And the data is useful to TripAdvisor so…

And they're an internet company that has relatively low operating costs and overheads and scalability?

  • Yeah all valid points.. but if you have no restaurants on the platform…everyone will just use another platform..

  • is this code once only per account and or can you use it mulitiple times to get multiple 1000 yums?

  • Do we just have to book before the 10th or the actual booking/meal needs to be before the 10th?

  • Just got my 1000 yums , very quick

    Yum

  • Does it show up in the booking as 1000 upcoming Yums? I just made a booking but at the end of the confirmation it only said 100 Yums will be earned by the booking…

    • takes 3 days to reach account

      • I haven't fulfilled my booking yet. I meant at the end of making the booking it said I would get 100 yums only.

  • also can you make a booking in advance for after april 10th and still get the yum points?

  • +4

    it is said code expired

    • +1

did you already use it for that account? maybe its only once per account? just use the other code OUTDOORUK21 ref https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/614651

    • +1

Yeah eat1000 didnt work for me either, so much for the push notifs saying expires midnight

      OUTDOORUK21 worked

    • Yep can confirm when trying to use this code it gives the error message "This loyalty code is invalid" on the app, and the error message "The expiry date for this code has passed" on the website (for testing purposes). Weird because the banner on TheFork's website says inclusive of 10th of April. I'm going to guess they forgot to set the expiration time as end of the day of 10th of April in their system…

      • Same for me. I messaged them and they claimed it was an error and they were trying to fix. They advised me to make a booking before midnight on the 10th anyway, and then to message later to get the extra 850 Yums credited. We’ll see if they honour - this isn’t the first time this has happened to me with a TheFork code.
