Darling Harbour (NSW) Chinese Garden - FREE Entry Opening Weekend - Sat/Sun 21/22 Jan 2012

640

Chinese Garden Opening Weekend Free Entry for all on Sat, 21 Jan & Sun, 22 Jan.

This is better than last year when it was free for only one day. Guess they can manage the crowd better by giving people a choice of two days.

The gardens are open from 9.30am - 5.30pm on both the days.

Chinese Garden free audio tour is also available for download at http://www.darlingharbour.com/index.cfm?menu_id=2818

If you are around on Saturday between 11:30 and 11:45am you can also enjoy the exciting and colourful lion dance at the Chinese Garden forecourt.

Sounds like a good deal, but there isn't going to be much "peaceful" or "serenity" to describe the experience.

yay. sorta. yeh i duno if it's worth going with the crowds

  • Moved to Sydney for more than 15 years now and I have never been there. Worthwhile to bring the kids there?

    For reference, here's last year's submission: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/38840

    • from memory, the place isnt very interactive and rather a very quite place to stroll around and relax. i wouldnt recommend it for kids

    • Definitely worth a visit if you have never been.

    • Thanks for all the responses.

      • We got some great photos there,
Take a good camera and certainly take the kids I'd say..
Lots of small waterfalls and some little attractive features there.

Also, there's a big, newly revamped kids playground with lots of equipment as well as water features for the kids to splash around in nearby. It's between the Chinese Garden and the Darling Harbour shop complex, near the McDonalds (of course).

Bring a towel and change of clothes if it's a nice sunny day!

yeah, There's a fountain next to it, plenty of people go swimming in it. Me and my mates were trying to run through it without getting wet.
          We had no chance

    • After a visit to the Chinese garden, you could entertain your kids by taking them to the nearby newly opened playground http://www.darlingharbour.com/sydney-Things_To_Do-Darling_Ha…

suggest you go when it isnt going to be packed to the rafters
you can not enjoy that kind of place when you are being shuffled along like cattle at the ranch

  • you have to go there when its quiet, that way you can enjoy the scenary and perhaps be naughty with the kids and feed the [coys?].

  • Great, thanks, also, Sunday you don't need to drive the car to city, the family fun day ride for the public transport still there, for 2 adult, 2kids family, just spend 10 dollar total, enjoy the whole day ferry, train, bus ride, check www.cityrail.info/tickets/which/funday for detail

this now includes the light rail which you can catch to/from Central station. Although calling the tickets family funday can be a bit of false advertising when you are stuck on a train for 2 hours with my kids.

There were about 300 people in the queue, my time is worth more than $6 entry fee.
