  • Gotta say beware with preowned Wii's (and most consoles) from EB - they're notorious for not checking them out well, know a few people who have had Wii's with dead DVD drives, as well as semi-bricked attempted soft mods etc.

If you do get one, make sure you test it as soon as you get it so that you don't get stung later!

    • +2

Yeah… Definitely test that everything is working with all secondhand purchases. Also give it a good cleaning.

And you can just bring it into a store to exchange it if something is wrong…

    • Yep. I bought a PS2 from EB second hand and the power cord didn't work. Returned it and the second one wouldn't fit the disc in properly.. Use caution.

    • +5

So are you negging the deal or EB in general?

      • +4

I like how he posted the comment and then negged it 10 minutes later. It's got 12 months warranty, so even if there's something wrong, just exchange it for another one.

        • +2

          Agree, not worth the neg.

        • +3

And what's that got to do with anything - FYI I was actually called away from my desk and did it when I came back. Negging the company, not the deal, if you have to spend time and effort trying to get a good one then you're not saving money when they can be had (new) for a little bit more (with accessories/games).

Just trying to help the OzB community make sure they're at least aware of it prior to ordering, thought that was the point of having the commenting system.

        • +1

Would the warranty be valid if the Wii had a semi-bricked soft mod attempt by the previous owner?

        • +11

Well, if your against EBGames not the deal, please read the Ozbargain guidelines, you leave a COMMENT warning about the company, NOT negging it.

        • We have had COTD haters, now EB haters???

        • +1

EB haters have been around since the dawn of time. ;)

  • +1

Hmmm, already have an Xbox, now wondering if I should add wii to my collection.

    • +3

Do you like Mario or Zelda games?

      • Yeah the Mario Galaxy games are so good!

      • +3

Who can say no to that question

    • +4

Super Smash Bros. Brawl………enough said :D

  • Good Bargain! it desires + not neg!

Personally, I actually prefer to buy older consoles this way. The 12 months warranty is most likely going to be more stress-free than dealing with a console manufacturer. The amount of times a customer would come in with a pre-owned issue, it was just swapped on the spot, no questions asked. I've even walked in more recently with a personal pre-owned controller (part of a pre-owned console package) that had stopped working, tested and swapped on the spot.

Complete disclosure, I used to work for EB a long, long time ago, although that has no relevance apart from my own experience dealing with the topic.

    • 100% spot-on. I work in games retail and it is MUCH easier to fix issues with pre-owned products (swap it over, no questions asked) than it is with products bought new.

I thought I would comment. Last year I bought a preowned ds. Now after 1-2 months the screen starting going up. I returned it to EB and they replaced it. There was no stock in their store besides pink. They said they could get other preowned ds from other stores. So they ended up getting a red preowned ds for me.

I understand EB's prices for games are expensive. However, I do believe their preowned console prices and warranty is pretty decent.

  • what are eb games trading hours??

    • I noticed that on their website. Complete lack of store trading hours. Frustrating.

      • u rekon chaddy store be open till 6?? anyone know?

  • no online stock, only in store, then how to use the coupon..huh!?? don't need it anyways, pretty happy with my xbox

    • There was stock, but it's now sold out.

    • +1

Come on… It's cheaper than the price of an Xbox game and you can exchange it if you get a dud.

      • +4

No OzBargainer should be paying $79 for an Xbox game ;)

        • +2

$79 for a new release game in store is pretty decent.

        • -1

Yeah, most local new release games are at that price.

    • its really funny gilbarc

Reliability issues are also important to know about. However this comes into a gray area.

      did you envisage being negged?:p

      • Well, seeing how many negs Baker got, yes I envisaged being negged. I figured it was worth warning people anyway.

  • Thanks. Bought one

  • Thanks. Got one too. My old one was falling apart.

  • Bought one like many here lol.

  • got one too cheers

    Comeon guys, don't buy preowned.
Support the right companies, it's only what $50 extra for a fresh Wii and you get Mario Kart + Wii Sports + Motion Plus controller.

    • Link?

    • +2

Common? I think Nintendo will do just fine without the support of OzBargain. Software on the other hand, small game and dev companies, heck yeah. I support and donate where I can personally.

      Zelda?

Bought on of these today. Didnt expect it to be that great condition physically but mine wasn't too bad. Few marks and bit of dirt which easily cleaned off as well as edges were bit knocked but all in all for the price it prety much what I expected. Just tested setting up with controller and Internet connection. All works. Tested a disc in it and works too so I'm happy. For 78$ can't go wrong. And in a year I'll probably end up selling it for $50 or giving it to my niece for her birthday. Definitely worth the go if you always wanted one but dnt Wana folk ou $150+ for a new one

Hmm tempted after hearing about EB's good warranty service. Buy for $78, attempt soft-mod.. if it doesn't work return for exchange :D

..in all seriousness though I've read the softmod guides and it looks pretty simple now.

    • That would be called fraud.

    • what can you do with soft mod?

      • play backed up games and homebrew

        • +1

I've actually never seen someone own the actual original game and a backup game in the first place…

        • dont worry i know exactly what he meant hehehe im jailbroken all my iphone!

  • Sweet they were shipped out today.

    • +2

Arrived in one day. I think it came from brissy (to the gold coast)

Condition is actually really good. Like, perfect. No marks or scratches on the console, controller or the sensor bar thingy.

Thanks a lot for the post OP.

  • Looks like its available online again..

  • +2

Thanks for the post. I grabbed one yesterday. There were two in the stores and I just picked the best one out of the two. For $78, I am very happy - everything works perfectly.
