It's amazing that they can sell a monitor as good as this for such a low price.

I love mine. I miss the IPS viewing angles sometimes but you'd be paying $1000+ for an IPS version of this.

  • +3

    VA.

    • +1

Good to see you know how to read the specs

    • WA WA WA

    • -1

Not sure why he was negged. Yes, it's on specs but this is one of the most important drawbacks of this particular monitor which should, in my opinion, be highlighted. The difference between VA and IPS panels is huge for someone who values colours and viewing angles. VA panels have better contrast but that's pretty much the only positive of the panel apart from being cheaper. I'd pay a little bit more for an IPS panel anyday.

      • +6

By that logic it should be highlighted that to get same size in IPS is not a little bit more but a lot more, which is an important drawback of 32" 4K IPS.

        • +3

Exactly, you're talking three times this much for an IPS equivalent.

      • +3

Different price range, different markets. 90% of home users don’t care - they like big inches and resolution at a reasonable price.

      • -1

IPS displays are also very glossy which I absolutely hate

      • Contrast under 1000:1 = ew.

      • I have this monitor as my primary WFH monitor. Up until now I have been exclusively IPS (I have an Acer X34 for gaming).

I also use the U3219Q in the office. Which is nice for attaching via usbc and has 85W? PD back to the laptop

Yeah the viewing angles aren't great, but for productivity work it is fantastic value at this price imo.

      • +1

Show me where you can get a 32" 4K IPS monitor for "a little more". You can't.

        • Show me where you can get a 32" 4K IPS monitor for "a little more"

          Here ;)

Specifically, the LG 32UN650-W. In the US it's slightly moreactually cheaper than the Dell! (edit)

Was slated to sell here for $649. Unfortunately LG Australia are idiots and have not imported this model, so we can't buy this monitor without importing ourselves. So yeah, unfortunately you are right - affordable 32" 4K IPS is not available to us here in Australia. :(

Edit: The RRP of the LG 32UN650-W in the USA is actually CHEAPER than the Dell! This is the monitor I really wanted…stupid LG Australia!!! :(

          • @caprimulgus: Yep trust me, I've been looking. Cheapest I can find is a Lenovo for mid $800s on eBay but they are not very popular so not many reviews. All the good ones are at least $900+ some are much more.

  • +3

It was cheaper during the ebay afterpay sale.

  • Thoughts on this or Ultra-Wide? Better suited for different functions?

    • Not sure why you'd get a monitor this size and it not be ultra wide.

      • To each their own. Most things are better without the stupid ultrawide aspect ratio imho

      • +2

I got this and this is much than a Ultra wide for me. I split one software into multiple small windows, and this setup is much better than Ultra wide.

      • +1

if you want to have a multi-monitor setup (like me), an ultrawide would be impractical.

        • Why? I have one ultra wide and three desktop columns. Works great.

      • Aspect ratio. For a multi-monitor setup. That's why I have this monitor.

        • Yes a lot of ultra wides don't have enough depth unless you get a Dell 43" or something

    • +1

      I have one of each - it's awesome! :)

  • +1

It is an ok monitor compared to what I am use to (ultrasharp ips or greater).

Using hdmi to my workstation the text is legible and clear. Colours look good.

Great specs for the price, but I just cant get an great 4k picture/colour using the google chromecast 4k.

To my eyes, setting the monitor to 1080 looks on par with the 4k resolution when using the chromecast. Not sure what is wrong with the monitor or chromecast or just user error.

Have yet to try hdmi/dp to my gaming rig.

    • +2

Chromecast needs HDCP2.2 to display 4k , otherwise it outputs only 1080p. Not sure if this monitor has it. Thats why having the resolution at 1080 works as the monitor does not have to show 1080p content on 4k

  • I got one of these during the previous sale to replace 2x 24" 1080p monitors on my WFH rig. Quite happy overall - No dead pixels. A small section of the bottom bezel isn't flush with the screen and sticks out a little bit but I don't notice it when looking front-on. The built-in speakers aren't amazing but are fine for WFH/YouTube.

I get 4k@30Hz / 1080P@60Hz via HDMI and 4k@60Hz via DisplayPort, but I had to try 3 different DP cables before I got a signal (only 1x HDMI cable provided with monitor, no DP cables).

Looking forward to testing out PBP (picture by picture) which lets you split the screen between two separate sources (i.e. PC takes left 50% of screen and laptop takes right 50%).

    • Interesting. When would PBP actually be useful tho? You could just use your laptop screen which would be better than half a 32” screen horizontally?

    • +3

Getting 4K signals at 60 Hz depends on the monitor as well as the computer hardware (and of course the cable). If you have a decent GPU that can output 4K at 60 Hz, AND if your motherboard outlet (HDMI version and Display port version to be double-checked for their bandwidths) AND if the HDMI or Display cable that you're using can handle this bandwidth then getting 4K at 60 Hz shouldn't be a problem. Some old hardware has DP port 1.2 (supports 4K at 60 Hz) and HDMI port 1.4 (only supports 4K at 30Hz). To get the best output you must have HDMI 2.0 or higher or DP 1.2 or higher.

      • These specs cause me frustration:
        - I have macbook pro 15inch 2017, using the Apple HDMI cable but only get 4k 30Hz. Then I replace this cable with DP -> Caldigit dock -> Macbook, now it can display 4k 60hz
        - the other macbook 12 inch, 2018, using HDMI cable does not recognize the monitor at all. Then I use the same route DP -> Caldigit -> Macbook 12inch, still not compatible.

Not sure if I should fork out the money to buy USB-C —> Display port to use this monitor with Macbook 12 inch.

        • +1

I would have thought the 2017 model would probably have HDMI 1.4 which explains why you get 30 Hz. Not sure why it's not recognized in the 2018 model at all though. Faulty port perhaps? Or a driver issue? Sorry, I'm not familiar with Apple products so can't really comment. I have PC laptop with reasonable specs and both HDMI and DP can do 4K at 60 Hz. I still find DP version of 4K 60 Hz to be somehow appealing for some reason.. I would highly recommend using a display port if you have one instead of HDMI port. If you have USB C, you may want to check whether that's thunderbolt compatible which (depending on version again) can give DP output using the right adapter.

          • @npnp: Probably because of macbook hardware. My Macbook 2017 has dedidated graphic card, while the 2018 has integrated card.
The funny thing is macbook 12inch 2018 can work well 4k 60hz with Dell Ultrasharp U2720q, using Dell thunderbolt 3 cable. But when I use macbook 12 inch with Dell S3221QS, it does not recognize HDMI cable, and it show "not compatible" with thunderbolt 3 cable. So the S3221QS is useless with macbook 12inch. 🤷‍♂️

            • @codinghelloworld: I would say double check everything between your MB and the monitor, ie cables and any dongles, as your MB is capable to 4K to one external monitor.

I have an older version of apple’s USB A/HDMI/USB C dongle which can only do 30Hz, the newer version of the same dongle can do 60Hz.

      • I am thinking of putting this monitor on an i5-4460 with an Nvidia 1030 which has a HDMI 2 port, no DP.

I should be able to pull off 4K 60Hz on this?

        • +1

Yup, just make sure you use a decent cable; I find HDMI cables very finicky and fussy.

    • Similar setup here, grabbed 2x Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" used monitors at the start of covid for $230 delivered which was fantastic before things went crazy expensive and OOS. They have been sitting on the floor since getting a Dell 3220DGF curved 32" monitor which has been fantastic. Good real estate and often spit the windows for things like browsers, word, youtube etc. Bought a better 8k DP cable so and achieves 165Hz fine. Didn't personally need a 4k screen.

No sure what to do with the other two monitors that are currently sitting on the floor, I still find 2 x 24" better for productivity (Cad and modelling), and usually have one screen with PDFs open which saves flicking between apps, helps with all the windows etc.

Thinking I may as well set up a sit-stand desk in the other room for more space (currently set up on the round living room table near the telly etc) could test out the other monitors again - don't think would look great mixing and matching one with the 32".. first world problems.

      • I ended up getting 2 x 3220DGF’s and am pretty happy with that setup for wfh.
Started with 1 attached to my asus g14, then ended up doing an r7 5800x build and bought a second 3220DGFF. Takes up a fair bit of desk room, but good screen realestate!!

        • Ah.. Awesome monitors hey, didn't think of that. Not sure if there are any around still, paid about $600 all up for this one, should be cheaper now that other models are out? that's probably the best of both worlds :).

A 1500-1600mm desk should be fine right? Want to keep the tower on the desk too (probably on one end sitting longways), (meshify-C). Probably no need to have one in portrait (not that these are IPS).

What about pairing a Dell S3221QS 32" Curved 4K from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/612774
Ideally want the same usually but could run at 2k res and physically look similar enough? $420 seems like a bargain

S3220 DGF comes down to $710 with SW15 and LOVEKEANU.. hmm.
          https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/dell-s3220dgf-v…

          Cheers!

          • +1

@G-rig: I got mine through the good guys commercial for $648 each which was pretty good.
My desk is just over 1700 I think but tower sits on a bar fridge next to it at same height.

The curve looks pretty insane with 2 side by side, very immersive.

I thought about pairing with a 4K but then decided I’d rather both @ 165hz as it feels so buttery smooth and looks great when they are identical.

            • @AmperSand: so the curve can make one big curve almost?
Hmm probably shouldn't mix and match them i guess. woudn't run it at 4k anyway (even though nicer for office stuff)
the deal runs out tonight can always price protect using 28 degrees like i did with this one when it went down to $599. So for another 180$ prob worth having a matching pair, and sell both the 24" for maybe $200
ps. will email my contact at jb commercial :)

            • @AmperSand: I can get another s3220dgf for $680, slightly cheaper than Dell. May as well do that. How much of an arc do they make together? Side by side would be 1400mm but hopefully less angled in (can't find any photos). Guess id want a 1600mm wide desk.
              Cheers

      • +1

If the stand on the 24” supports it, you could put it in portrait mode next to the 32”. It would be good for PDFs or even two apps split vertically.

        • +1

Yeah could do, i mostly look at A3 landscape drawings though. Drew up the monitor up quickly, the curve with two looks good. Mate will probably grab my old ones

    • do you mind sharing which DP cable ended up working and what types we should look out for when buying?

    • You can split the screen with the Dell Display Manager. You have to download it.

Just wanted to warn you people of Dell "premium" warranty. One of the two Dell 27" QHD S2721DS monitors died yesterday (it was promoted here on OZB last year). It's only been 5.5 months since I purchased it. I asked for a new monitor replacement which they agreed to. However, today I got a call stating that only a refurbished monitor would be provided. Obviously, I was very upset. I immediately called them, however, they stuck to their guns so I accepted a refurb. Next thing I asked if the monitor was being shipped tomorrow (i.e. the next business day), to which they replied that I'd have to return the faulty monitor first. According to their policy (even for this deal):

    Advanced Exchange Service
Your monitor comes with a 3-year Advanced Exchange Service so that if a replacement becomes necessary, it will be shipped to you the next business day during your 3-year Limited Hardware Warranty.

Clearly, what they said is against their warranty statement. I called them again. They're "investigating it internally". So, beware of this when dealing with Dell. BTW, their call centre is in Malaysia.

Dell's products are great, however, their support is horrible! Not sure if other monitor manufacturers have better support, but this needs to be taken into consideration when parting with lots of hard earned cash.

    • +3

Thats unacceptable for only 5-6 months of usage. If you paid by credit card, I would threaten them with a chargeback unless they honor their warranty and provide you with an replacement before you return your faulty monitor.

    • I got an advanced replacement on my order from November. It was for an occasional high pitched noise out of the speaker.

Unfortunately the replacement does it too. So looks like I'll get a refund.

None of my other monitors do it on the same PC, so not sure if I just got 2 duds.

    • I had different experience
I had the same Dell 27" QHD S2721D died, and used the chat function to ask for a replacement, Dell sent me a brand new monitor, and all I have to do is put my faulty monitor back into the box, then book a pick up from Star Track to return it to Dell (All instructions are included in the box)
Overall, I'm happy with the after-sale service.

      • That's exactly the same monitor as mine except for the stand. How old was it when it died?

        • +1

Probably the same time as you, I bought in around Oct last year, I reckon you try the Chat Function, the person I chat with was very useful

          • @Deimos0412: Yes, I used the chat function, but they only offered me a refurbished monitor for replacement after I return the faulty one.

  • Prices dropping like flies. Spewing paid $570 back Nov

    • Are you happy with it at least? Say yes….I just pulled the trigger on one😝

      • +1

not OP, but i think you'll be pretty bloody happy with this panel for the price. it's really good.

  • +1

Does anyone know if you put two of these side by side in a dual monitor setup, can it be shaped like a wide upside down U shape, or will it end up more like a flat M shape? Hope I explained that ok.

    • The curvature is left to right and no up/down curvature ie the curvature is in one direction. I have one and you could place 2 side by side.

  • Good item to claim tax on for working from home

  • +1

Only thing missing is USB C or thunderbolt

    • Dell make them but they are around $1000 from memory.

  • How does it compare with

Which one is better monitor and better value ?

  • Thanks for posting this. Bought it for $387.94!

No problems. That's a great deal, hope you enjoy.

  • +2

A 32" wide vs 34" ultrawide will give you more pixels and more physical space.

I haven't used an ultrawide yet, but so far, for work (as a designer) I prefer a more even screen space (vertical and horizontal) distribution of a 16:9 (wide) monitor. The ultrawide monitor just doesn't have enough vertical space. Now if we taking 5k2k ultrawide monitors, I would love that.

    • Ultrawide better for documents I reckon. Yes more pixels on 4k, but the ratio of splitting them makes them a tad on the skinny side (notwithstanding sharper clarity)

  • Got it beginning of February, pretty happy with the monitor quality for the price. Mainly development and office work.
Since price dropped twice within 30 days since then, claimed price difference twice from Dell. Can't complain :)

  • Ordered mine is the last deal.. does anyone know why the 25 day wait for delivery? Are they being shipped from O/S? Or just backlog? or are they being made to order lol

    • Mine came within a week…

      • Thanks that's good to know was kind of the answer I was hoping to hear :)

Did you get a tracking number beforehand? Ordered mine off dell eBay

        • I bought mine from Dell direct. Got tracking number, shipped through Startrack.

Looking to purchase one of these, but still deciding between the 2721QS and 3221QS!

    Anyone in the same boat?

Have read alot about the QS being "overkill" on the 27" size… Another option I was looking at was the S2721DS… Is that even comparable to the QS 4Ks?

Would love your thoughts thank you!

    • +5

Just be aware that at with 4K at 27", you will almost certainly need to use some amount of scaling (125%-150%), unless you have incredible eye sight / sit extremely close to your monitor. If you are used to the sharpness of high ppi monitors (ie. Mac "retina" displays), then that's probably exactly what you want, but otherwise, you will be sacrificing desktop real-estate. eg. 27" 4K at 150% scaling is effectively the same realestate as 27" 1440p (like the S2721DS), but sharper (the actual ppi is still higher on the 4K monitor).

27" 4K is 163ppi - I would say this is too high for most people without scaling
32" 4K is 138ppi - this is perfectly usable without scaling, if you have good eyesight
27" 1440p is 109ppi - this is pretty much the new basic standard (fine, but a bit low if you ask me)

27" 4K at 125% scaling is an effective 3072x1728 workspace (similar to a 130ppi screen, but sharper) - similar to 32" 4K, but smaller workspace
27" 4K at 150% scaling is an effective 2560x1440 workspace (similar to a 109ppi screen, but sharper) - similar to 27" 1440p (S2721DS), but sharper
32" 4K at 125% scaling is an effective 3072x1728 workspace (similar to a 110ppi screen, but sharper) - similar to 27" 1440p (S2721DS), but bigger workspace

For me, I run 4K without scaling so I can utilise the full resolution for desktop real-estate (productivity usage). For that, 32" is definitely the way to go. If you're happy to trade-off some workspace for sharpness, then you perhaps the 27" is better.

      tl;dr
If you care more about desktop real estate (eg. productivity use) - go the S3221QS
If you care more about sharpness of the display (eg. "retina" display) - go the S2721QS
If you don't really care about either, and just need a basic screen - the S2721DS will probably suffice

      • Love your thorough comparison, thank you!

      • woudln't mind scaling dialogue boxes etc lower than 100% on a 1440p for a bit more real estate, possible?

  • +1

I bought this monitor for the aspect ratio & the "premium speakers". Speaker/audio quality is good. VA panel is very bright, almost too bright, no complaints. Took 2 weeks to arrive. Curvature gives a more of a "cinematic" experience.

I also had a Dell rep call me up, he said to call him for better prices.

  • Anyone have their order processed and shipped yet?

    • yep. ordered on the 24th shipped on the 26th. eta 30/3

had to email them because my order hadn't been confirmed in over 12 hours. that sorted it out.

  • I can't get 4K working on PS4 PRo against this monitor. Any advice? I only got 2k output

    • change the hdmi cable to a better one. the one included is dog shit.

      • Need a deal on 4K cable….I already tried the one bundled with PSVR not working

  • This is back to the same price again, $417 with LOVEKEANU

    • Seems this is the normal price now

      • We’re living in the golden age of big cheap VA panels

  • Dell Outlet has these refurb for $359 now - https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet/refurbished-dell-32-curved…

    • I bet my 2 returned ones are there! They both had a high pitched sound coming from the speakers after a random amount of time of silence from PC. They also had 3 to 4 dead pixels.
I ended up getting a refund and ordering again a few months later through ebay at $120 cheaper and got one that rarely makes that sound, and no dead pixels.
