Been with them 5+ years, just insured another car thru them the other day. Got the quote, then ignored it cuz I wasn't in a rush. 24 or so hours later they sent a bonus $60 egift card offer aswell

All roadside assistance operate the same, they use same contractors for their call outs.
The one that came quicker probably didn't get stuck in traffic than the guy who came later.

The NRMA have their own network, Budget Direct don’t own a thing.
The NRMA road service may use other subcontractors when busy but that would be it. Budget Direct Would hire the cheapest contractors out there.
I had Budget Direct car insurance once as well, never again.
I use my roadside assistance once when my battery was flat.
The roadside mechanic who came was a very nice guy and we were chatting while he fixed my battery. I asked him what's the difference between roadside assistance providers. His answer was that they are all the same because he also receives calls from bigger companies like NRMA. I was using 365 roadside assistance that time.
Not happy with this roadside and went back to NRMA. They only have "technicians" not mechanics. Unless it's a battery or flat tyre the only thing they recommend is having the car towed - and this needs to be requested at the phone call stage. NRMA are usually mechanics and will do a lot more at roadside before suggesting a tow.
Whats the difference between technicians and mechanics?
That word is their description to me. They said “we don’t send mechanics, we have technicians” and then came my questions about what that all meant. Weren’t prepared to me with nothing other than a tow truck because it looked like I had a faulty alternator, as my battery completely died after 12 months. They asked if I wanted a new battery or a tow truck… how should I know?
My roadside isn't up for another month and it doesn't seem to have an option for me to choose a start date. Also, does the discount apply to multiple new vehicles or just one per customer?

I got renewal quote for $67.96 from BD but when I checked my BD online account, they had charged me $79.95. I contact their customer service and they said there is nothing they can do about it as this is normal price. Just something to be aware about.
