Hmmmmm, belong is less appealing as time goes on

Catch is 18GB for $15 per 30 days. This is not a great deal.

  • It's kind of misleading saying this is for existing customers only. Anyone can go on this plan after the 1st payment date.
    https://www.belong.com.au/content/dam/belong/downloads/CIS-B…

Anyway if you're just looking at this deal without any context on how to get the most out of the Belong starter packs then it's pretty ordinary.
Kogan 60GB 90 days $14.90 leaves it for dead.

The $10|1GB plan is only available to people who are already on it.
Please note: once you upgrade, the $10|1GB plan will no longer be available to you.

Wat? Does that mean the $10 plan is gone everyone who's not currently on it?

    Really wish they'd get voicemail

    • They do have voicemail now. Call 321 or 101 and it has voicemail!

  • +4

Wish they would add VoLTE & VoWIFI

  • No more international with any of the plans unless you pay for it.

    • i would pay for it if they included more countries. they took so many countries off.

  • I bought this with a previous deal (sold on the endless shaped data) but found it pretty disappointing. The included data was used up really quick and the shaped data never worked at all. Also they said at the time you could use your credit to buy a data top up but charge your credit card and dgaf when you call to sort it out. Would not recommend if your interest is based on the endless data bit

Looks like I'll be staying on the $10 plan then :)

  • does that mean if i've got a $40 sim card, it now worth $45 or would they charge me an extra $5 to activate on that plan? anyone tried yet?

why does the website say the $35 plan is promo, is it cheaper than normal?

    • Promotion price $35 gets 40Gb data but without international calls. If you use a $40 starter pack, you have $5 remaining in ur account.

$45 gets 80Gb, if you use $40 pack, you need to pay $5 extra.

No more double data from fixed billing dates. Now billing date is the day SIM card activated.

$20 referral code only can be used with new email sign up. $20 credit only can be used from 2nd months.

  • So does this mean that the 1GB/month plan for $10 will not be available anymore (even for existing customers)?

    • That sounds like the case

      • Oh that's bad news. Had been transferring between Belong and Kogan every 3 months. Had previously been transferring between Kogan and Catch. Now need to find somewhere else to transfer to. Anyone know of any other cheap 1 month or 3 month providers for around $5 per month with around 10GB per month?

        • (even for existing customers)?

No they can stay on this $10 plan if current. If you switch, you cant switch back.

If you stay you can stay.

Belong was good option for SIM hopping with $20 referral credit, you can get connected for 6 months on $20 start up kit. (or even add 2 months to your other account using your own refer code). Even with recent change where you have to select $25 plan on signup, you can switch back to $10 plan from next month.

But with this change, if you port out your number to another provider to hop back to Belong later, you won't be able to get $10 plan in future….
Hmmm… should I stop hopping the SIM and stick to my current $10 plan….

    • Belong was good option for SIM hopping with $20 referral credit

This is why they banned the $10 p/m plan for new signups.
Too many SIM hoppers who were porting out after 2 months of free mobile service.

      • i'm confused. Do people actually think $10 for 1 GB was a good deal?

        • +4

Do people actually think $10 for 1 GB was a good deal?

          Definitely not for everyone.

If you have banked up enough data (via gifting or double data back in the glory days) then the $10 p/m plan is excellent for simply coasting by paying the least amount p/m. Otherwise, it is extremely poor value for money.

      • It was still the best value with kogan for sim hopping even though they banned the $10 plan on signup.

Now if the $10 plan really is no longer available, not sure if it's the best sim hopping option available.

Ok did a quick comparison with catch who is offering $29 /90 days / 20gb.

Belong with this new offer is $20 /90 days /26gb based on if you can get the half price belong starter packs and also the $20 refferals credit.

Or you can do $30 /120 days /29gb if that's enough data as you have $5 credit left on that first option.

        Or if you're sick of sim hopping there's catch that's doing $120 / 365 days /120gb

Amaysim atm has $6 /84 days /6gb if that's enough data.

  • Well I was going to go back to Belong for the better Telstra coverage once my current deal expires but I won't bother now if they have killed the $10 deal.
Bad move in my opinion - they are already compromised with no voicemail and crappy email only support.
This swings the deal to over to nah..

so on the King Tightarse scale of "clench" to "spread", you're rating this a firm "clench".

      • +1

Lol, I'd give this a passing clenched pucker

  • I wouldn't think this is a deal. As Belong removes $10 plan for good, it's not appealing at all comparing with Kogan $15 for 90 days with 60GB data.

  • +1

this was a good deal by 2011 standards.

You can get 30-45 GB starter sims regularly for $8-10 at woolies/coles and just sim hop from month to month between them. Throw in the Kogan 90 days for $15 (new customers) into the mix. You're a fool to pay $15 for 3GB.

Belong doesn't give you the option to park your number there when you're out of credit until a good deal comes up. If this is your main number, it's not something you would do anyway, but I have a sim I use for my tablet and want to keep the number. I left it there, but unlike other prepaid services they will automatically renew you. You don't have an option to remove your payment details. What I did was remove paypal authorization and thought I was safe. They still told me I owe them, which I didn't pay because I didn't want/need the extra month. Then I couldn't port out until I paid the 'overdue' amount. You can't just leave your service without credit like with other prepaid services. They don't give you the option. It behaves more like a post paid service. If you want to avoid another bill as a sim hopper, you have to port out before the credit expires.

    • As others have noted, the $10 deal was great to keep your number putting along, once you had built up a reserve of data. It rolls over every month indefinitely and the calls are unlimited, so it was a really handy option.

      • how long ago were people doing that? The GB is a piddling amount.

$10 for 1GB would have been a cheap deal 10 years ago when Live Connected and Vaya were a thing.

        • You can build up as many GB as you want. People have hundreds of GB in their rolling allowances. The $10 is just for the calls and use up the stored data as needed

          • +1

@King Tightarse: That's what I was doing on my belong Sim which resides on my tablet

            • @xoom: Yep, my wife has a few hundred GBs in her Belong account and is on the $10 deal. With Covid and working from home, she's not really using the data at all. Should last at least another year at least, assuming they don't completely kill the grandfathered $10 plan. I am slightly annoyed because I was going to go back to Belong too but wont bother with the $15 per month minimum - I can get three months of discounted Kogan for $15

              • @King Tightarse:

Yep, my wife has a few hundred GBs in her Belong account and is on the $10 deal.

At 1GB a month allowance, wouldn't it take hundreds of months to accrue hundreds of GB?

At $10 a month it's still $120 a year for 12GB. You can get cheaper deals that that which will give you 60+GB for the year. The amaysim $100 deal is for 120GB.

                • @lostn: Well you can switch plans any time and also send each other data. She didn't earn it 1GB at a time. She was on a much higher plan earlier and it built up, plus I send her all my accrued data when I ported out. The $10 plan is good once you have a fair bit of banked data or are working from home and on WiFi 99% of the time etc

The whole value proposition of Belong was the discounted starter kits on top of the referrals meant you can get 6 month access for $15(discounted $40 starter kit price) to use.

Belong has already eroded this value by not letting you sign up to the $10 plan upon activation so you have to activate on $25 then drop back to $10. that still meant with a $40 starter kit + referral, you can still get 4 month usage, 60 - 25 - 10 - 10 -10.

but with this change you can only get 3 months from it 60 - 25 - 15 - 15 and only get like 26 GB of data.

the Plans by themselves are far from good value

    • Very well said!

I am now in the process of moving all my family members out of Belong, and onto Catch Connect … as soon as they are close to finishing up all the banked data.

  • Just got an $80 sim and wondered if someone can check my logic

If I use a referral I can get $100 value which gives me two options as far as I see :

    1) $25 for first month with 20gb then 5 months at $15 with 3gb. Total 6 months and 35 GB

    2) $45 for first month with 80gb then 4 months at $15 with 3gb. Total 5 months and 92gb data plus $5 cost

Is that right? I read through the terms and seems to suggest that if you drop a plan you still bank unused data.

If so the second option gives a lot more data but one month less which is better suited to my needs….

  • Could people remove their inactive nbn mobile codes.. I've just gone through about 50 that don't work and I've given up.

    • I think you can ask the mods to flush the codes which will prompt everyone to re-enter them.

  • I have learnt today that current $10 plan users will lose access and be moved to the $15 3gb plan as of April 2022

    • Just received the same email, sad day but had a great run

    • Boooo…

    • Me too.

I have 3 accounts with around 250 Gb across them.

Are there any better options for cheap mobile service for children (maybe I will port out 2 of the 3 accounts)?
