That's tempting, but I just can't do afterpay outta principle.

    • +1

Don't need afterpay, can pay with gift cards after selecting afterpay as the payment option.

      • Have you tested it?

        • +3

Nah but it's been mentioned by others in other deals.

        • +2

Can confirm, purchased iPad Air with gift card

          • +1

@scorpiosony: I just joined eBay and got my $50 voucher but now can't use both the codes at the same time … eBay voucher and PAPDY20 ….. frustrating

            • @jughead101: You can only apply one voucher code to this purchase.

            • @jughead101: Use the voucher on coles and buy those 50% off products

              • @ozvictor: Thank you for the suggestion … but I also didn't want to pay by afterpay

        • It works, I did it earlier with the same deal but for the Good Guys Chromecast + Google TV deal.

Get to the pay screen, enter the code, select Afterpay as your payment method, then enter gift card number to bring balance to zero.

          • @TrafalgarSean: Yes, but then the discount goes away.. you can only use one voucher/coupon at a time. May be its different with gift card.. I am trying with my eBay voucher which I received after joining Plus

    • What's the matter with Afterpay?

      • +9

It encourages people to make frivolous purchases they can’t really afford and caters to the millennial attitude of being entitled to everything immediately instead of working/saving for it first.

        • +17

Yep, definitely the fault of millennials, not the older generations exploiting their difficulty in securing a job, an income, a house, or savings

          • @klonky: They don't seem to mind buying 20-30k cars first up….

            Priorities.

            • +5

@PainToad: Didn't realise it was the pain Olympics there mate. My dad walked to school 9 miles through the snow with a rusty nail through his foot!

            • +17

@PainToad: There was no hecs because uni was free, not that you required a degree for an entry level office job 40 years ago like you do now. You could also afford to support a family on one middle income wage which is why Matt leave and childcare wasn’t a requirement. I’m neither a boomer nor a millennial but facts are facts. There are different hardships. The real problem with after pay is the interest is paid by the shopkeeper and passed on via higher prices and the split payments lowers the mental barrier for purchase enabling people to spend more then they would be comfortable with as it’s over 2 months and not immediate.

            • +5

@PainToad: House prices were significantly cheaper as well remember.

in 1980 is was more like 4-5 times the average wage to buy the average house. 4-5 times the average wage now doesn't get you anything.

IIRC 2008 was worse for mortgage stress than when rates were at 17%

To be clear, not saying you are wrong, just clarifying every generation has its positives and negatives.

            • +5

@PainToad: High interest rates on cheap houses, or low interest rates on excessively expensive houses that increased exponentially in value while the cost of living increased but the wage didn't go up.

Not really the same thing there. Especially since a lot of households were single income, and could still live comfortable.

Also heaps of that generation got free uni. No need for HECS when you aren't paying.

            • @PainToad: Look at Mr well to do millennial over here shitting on anyone in his cohort that isn't doing as well as he is.

            • +1

              @PainToad:

Btw, I am a millennial, not a “boomer” (I hate that insulting arrogant term).

              Sounds like you're actually a boomer then…

        • -2

          Couldn't have said it better.

Don't need to encourage things like that.

        • +4

Comments like these are just inflammatory for the sake of it. Yes afterpay's business model is predatory, this "entitled millennial" stereotype is just something peolle fall back on to feel smug.

          • @TrulyUnicorn: Is it really predatory? Its like a credit card but with less interest.

Is it really the younger generations fault, or is it the older generations fault for not teaching the right values?

$71.20 Delivered for eBay Plus members, for non members there is additional delivery charges

  • Can i use this on PC?

    • +2

Yes, with either Bluetooth, a USB C cable or the Xbox Wireless Adapter.

      • Mine doesn't connect to my Bluetooth receiver but I might need a new receiver

    • +2

If you want to use it on computer you get this combo with the wireless adaptor for $86.36 : https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/333864684763

      • Are there still issues with wireless though?

        • +1

No the Xbox controller uses a proprietary wifi version that offers low latency, it is superior to Bluetooth.

          • @Spendmore: Ok thanks. Not sure how MS can be having Bluetooth issues though tbh.

          • @Spendmore: Doesn't it also have bluetooth? If not i might just stick with my 8bitdo controllers.

Bluetooth latency is already very low (under 7ms) and I'm unable to perceive it already on my Bluetooth controllers. Certainly paying $80 for another propriety dongle seems a bit much.

How do you get 5% off gift cards for ebay?

    • it was 5% cashback on cashrewards for the choice gift card, but seems like they decrease it to 1.5%, but you can still get the ebay gift card at shopback for 3% cashback..

      • Okay cool. Thought I was going mad.
        Wonder when that changed then

    • +2

Shopback has 5% ebay giftcard via the swap giftcards. This is similar to Cashrewards' choice giftcards

    • Arent you supposed to pay using Afterpay for this deal?

      • You can select Afterpay as the payment option then pay with gift cards. Doesn't actually require Afterpay.

  • It's always been 72 bucks through Good guys commercial.

    • Were they the new series x ones?

      • Yep.

      • +1

Yep, Black and White are $72 at GG Commercial. Red and Blue are $76.

    • +1

Good on you whoever negged me. Gotta love the pansies on here.

      • don’t you need to pay to get gg commercial?

and don’t you need to add postage?

        • +1

No. Search here and you can find several ways of getting access to it for free. In my case, I have a Sunsuper account, which provides free membership to GG commercial.

Postage applies for this deal as well unless you have Ebay plus?

With GG commerical you can choose click and collect and avoid paying postage.

  • +1

Good price, but a friendly reminder that if you use Telstra you might have enough points to get one for free with Telstra reward points…

    • Thanks mate. Redeemed a controller using the points. Seems fairly cheap

  • May be a stupid question, but is this the original controller? No where it says the manufacturer is Microsoft

  • is the d-pad as bad as it looks?

Can it pair with the Xbox 1 controller's wireless adapter? it looks the same.

    • +1

D-pad is better, more responsive. It's louder than the older models though.

      Yes, you can.

      • any d-pad that's not a cross i have doubts about. MS has never gotten it right except on the XB1. The 360 was the worst.

        • Check out Linus' vid on the new controller, he goes over the d-pad and compares it to the One controller.

I personally decided to stick with the One controller. If I play games that make use of a d-pad like fighting/retro games then I have my PlayStation controllers for those.

      • +3

How loud it is can’t be expressed enough. This is one of the noisiest, clickiest dpads I’ve ever used. It’s actually annoying how loud it is. I’d trade the xb1 dpad over this one simply for some peace and quiet. Everything about the Xbox series controller is noisy compared to the dual sense.

        • I think it's better than the previous version having used both, in fact this controller is almost perfect. They hardly changed the formula but the changes they did make are subtle but offer an improvement to what was already a great controller.

          • +1

@Spendmore: Honestly even the dpad is great, but noisy controllers for some reason bother me. So I can't disagree that it's a great controller. Throw in Gyro, pads to quiet the buttons and it'd be the perfect controller for Xbox, Xcloud and PC.

        • Yes it is clicky but as such it has a very nice feel. I get how it can be annoying but it doesn't bother me and most of the time I'll be using noise cancelling headphones anyway.

  • thanks bought
