Kogan 15.6" Portable Monitor Full HD IPS LED $219 + Shipping (Free with First) @ Kogan

130

Kogan 15.6" portable monitor on sale. I think it's similar to a monitor made by Lepow (they are probably made in the same factory but branded slightly differently as they have the same ports).

2 x USB-C, HDMI mini, headphone jack, speakers. Comes with HDMI mini to HDMI cable, USB-C to USB-C cable, wall adapter and USB-A to USB-C cable (for adapter). Works with Switch.

Relatively cheap compared to it's usual rip-off price of $500. I haven't looked at portable monitor prices since the start of the pandemic but I think prices across the board are higher, maybe due to the chip shortage.

Save yourself $60 and can grab the ones off eBay for ~$160 delivered. Just rebadged generic USB-C monitors.

    • Any suggestions on half decent ones?

I use the Corprit branded one. I use mine as a Switch dock with a powerful power bank.

        • I saw a review for the Corprit one and the screen was all washed out and looked horrible. Does yours look ok?

    • Hmm interesting, just looked and saw the ones you're talking about. Seems to be branded as "Corprit". After skimming through a couple of Youtube videos the quality seems to be okay, wonder how it stacks up to this one.

the ebay one can't be any worse, this is kogan after all

    • +1

Haha, pretty much the rule with every kogan product imho

  • I don't get the difference between that and this: https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-156-touchscreen-full-hd-i…, which is touchscreen but has a much lower RRP.

    • +7

Simply put, the RRP is Bullsh!t.

    • Screen is thicker would be the reason I'd say.

      • I think the screen is thinner for parts of it

  • Do these have some sort of generic power input (e.g. 12V car source) or does it need to be USB-C? Specs are vague.

    • +3

      Specs aren't vague - it's USB-C only for power.

Pretty dim. You should be able to do better for this price or not much more

    • Main reason for the dimness is the amount it's allowed to draw over usb c sadly - an inherent problem for all usb c monitors.

      • This one suggests "Brightness: 400-500cd/m2 (Dynamic Brightness in different display modes)"

Not sure if its true though….

(edit: actually, might require separate power since it comes with power adapter - the post has conflicting info…)

      • No. USBC can provide 100 Watts

  • Does anyone know of a portable 15.6" monitor that has a built-in battery AND works with the Switch (without the need for a dock)? This one meets half that requirement (works with the Switch) but I'm guessing it either drains the Switch's battery, or needs a USB powerbank to be connected to power it. It'd be good to find one with a largeish battery built in. Appreciate any tips!

    • Can you connect Switch to any display without using dock?

      • This one claims you can, and shows a picture of it working that way. I was surprised myself as I know the Switch's display out specification is a somewhat arcane version of displayport over USB.

    • Probably won't happen, besides the need for a decent charging rate, you are also going to battle the switch with it's arcande usage (or misusage) of the power specification - in short, be careful plugging anything into the switch while attempting to use it in dock mode (high power), as it can destroy a voltage regulator inside it and leave it not charging.

    • Doesn't exist. The Switch needs a lot of juice in docked mode. I use a 60w power bank.

    • There is the ASUS Zen one with battery. The Switch does not work without dock and power. Which sort of counters the portability.
