From OW questions - may be helpful:
It has a USB port that can be used to back up the internal hard drive to an external hard drive formatted to FAT32. (FAT32 - agh!)
The device can record to the internal hard drive or an external hard drive.
No it can’t be used as a media player.
No it doesn’t have A/V in RCA sockets.

Has been on OW 'clearance' for a while - was $159 in September

FAT32?? arrggghhh indeed! if you buy this be prepared to spend time joining lots of 4gb files together, unless you like movies split into several files!

  • 2 left in the Hobart store at COB 30/12. The hdd is worth $75 at todays prices!

  • actually I wonder what is the purpose of today's LCD/Plasma digital TV having built in HD tuner if people still buy/use set top box with PVR functionality. Are there actually LCD/Plasma digital TV that comes with PVR function (except Kogan 32 inch deal posted today) or with Harddisk and PVR?

    • most seem to support PVR functions if they have a USB port.

  • out of stock online

  • I just got the Magic MTV4000PVR (apparently quite ok, haven't got it yet) from Crazy Stu shipped with the wireless adaptor for $263.95.

  • Appears we missed this at WOW for even cheaper

    • Bugger! $50!! That was a great deal. Wonder why no one posted it?
May only be a placeholder price, not actual price sold - as used by OW.

  • This is now back in stock online for Melbourne and suburbs only. Not for NSW, QLD, haven't checked other states. Price is now $99. Picked one up today for that price at Ferntree Gully Officeworks, about 4 left. With an extra 2 yr extended warranty it came to a bit less than $120. Thankyou for the post.

    • Is it in all Victorian stores or just Melb burbs?

      • Since I posted the above comment it is now out of stock again for Melbourne online. I phoned officeworks main number and the person did a check of several stores in Melbourne Eastern suburbs, Ferntree Gully the only store that had stock.

  • Succumbed today when I was browsing the aisles, and noticed the extra drop in price to $99. Hobart store. You will find some items in-store only, when the website says out of stock. Always pays to ring or go in and browse.

  • Can confirm some stock available in some stores at $99. Bought 1 today.
Not that impressed with EPG, a 'no subscription for this service' notice keeps appearing over some channels, a litlle slow changing channels. But cheap.

    • Three in stock at Upper Mt Gravatt, Brissie at $99. (Took mine back)
This is a very basic PVR - basically a STBox with a HDD added.

No way to pad scheduled recording times. My first recording set by EPG started after the program started & stopped before the program ended - very frustrating. The only way round this is to write down the EPG times & laboriously enter longer recording times manually. Recording only part of a program makes this a pretty useless recorder.

The only timeshift feature is to Pause the live TV, then FF/REW/PLAY the time between the Pause & current time. OK to pause it to make a cuppa, but not to rewind live TV to watch something again. And forget chaseplay!

If recording 2 programs at once, can only view live TV programs on the network of the last recording to start. Stop button did not stop played recordings. Recording titles only give time, duration, date & channel - pretty useless as you don't know what is recorded later. You can not rename recordings.

All those missing features are common on many sub-$200 PVRS. I have a 4 year old one with these features.
Would not recommend. Probably the most basic & useless PVR I have ever used.

  • Anyone still after one of these, from what I can gather they are cleared out of Melb stores, but may be able to get hold of 1 or 2 is some are still after them.
