That is a good price…
This or the Hisense 65Q8?
Hisense - this model is plagued with DSE and vertical bands. I would go the X900H.
Unfortunately X900H is out of my price range.
My budget is $1.7-1.8k only and want 65".
Need best TV for this price.
I would probably go the Hisense then. I went through 3 Q80Ts and unfortunately they all had really bad DSE. Watching any content that pans wasn't possible which was very disappointing.
@DModjo: When I read criticism of the Hisense many people also complain that it suffers bad motion blur as well, it's really causing me anguish to decide what the best way to go.
Many people recommend X900H and X9500H but these are much more expensive - of course they should be better, but if my budget is only $1.8 I'm left with different choices.
It seems no TV will be perfect, but I want to get the best option I can for the budget. The way some people talk about the Hisense Q8 in particular is that the motion is so bad it's unwatchable and almost like it's no better than some $1000 or less TV. Is it really that bad or are some people just super picky?
@placard: I think it just comes down to whether you notice the flaws. No TV is perfect, but I just couldn't get past the DSE on the Q80T. It was there, prominently in your face every time the camera panned taking you out of whatever you are watching. My X9000H isn't perfect either but nowhere near the level of the Samsung.
@DModjo: I'm currently having this issue and had replaced twice. Did the retailer refund you and what TV did you end up with?
@Quotationz: Yes I was going to get a refund but I decided to spend an extra $350 (I got the Q80T for 1950) and get the Sony X9000H. It's much better - no vertical bands or DSE. Much better build quality too - I'd recommend it.
@DModjo: Thanks I'm thinking of doing the same. I have the 75 q80t and the dse and vertical bands are just completely unwatchable. Will try find a good deal on the X9000H cheers
@Quotationz: I am confused is that mean both Hisense and this Samsung have the same problem?
@superforever: Q80T has bad BSE effect and vertical banding. Can notice it on any dark scenes or panning or clouds. It's been changed twice and still bad.
I didn't know what dse or vertical banding was until I owned this TV and thought it looked strange. So I would avoid the Q80T and go for something else definetly as Samsung support are useless.
@DModjo: I have a Q80T since November. It's been great so far, but would like to know what films/shows this is particularly noticeable in? you mentioned panning shots?
@RevMet: I have both the x900h and the Q80T and usually have them side by side while gaming. I barely notice any difference between the two.
@RevMet: DO NOT ASK FOR EXAMPLES!
IGNORANCE IS BLISS!
Just enjoy your TV if you are happy and thats it.
@Blue Cat: Just like Wine 🍷
@RevMet: Type in Dirty screen effect test on YouTube and watch the cloud one.
That shows you if yours is bad or not.
I noticed mine in gaming and sports which is all I use it for so it's a deal breaker for me.
@RevMet: Don't look for it.
Hisense Q8 is the best value for money in your price range.
It's nice to see some sale pricing coming back again, but I feel that all of the 2020 models (LG OLED aside) leave you needing to compromise in some way. I think I'm going to hold out for the 2021 crop and hope they have more stable tech/processing to get a great picture whether it's a movie or sport, and doing HDMI2.1 / VRR properly as well.
Read reviews for Hisense.
With Hisense forget about software updates, if you watch cricket or soccer, tennis or any fast paced game, you won't be able the ball smoothly and will have a lot of motion blur, inbuilt interface is quite slow so I use NVIDIA shield so you may have to add cost to buy something additional box or something. But then again these TVs are cheap.
Do you think they will fix the software to help with motion blur? Is this different to the fixes provided with firmware updates?
I don't think they invest much in software. I am talking about n7 series tv that's quite old now so they may have improved or may not have. Hard to say
Only available to residents in certain areas of Victoria?
OP needs to fix title as VIC only.
For what it's worth, I have this TV and have no DSE or banding problems. It sounds like it was a bit of luck of the draw with panels. Everywhere seemed to be sold out not long ago so I'm guessing these will all be a new batch. You'll have to take a leap of faith to find out if the new batch has a good panel or not… With no DSE or vertical banding, this is a great TV (not as good as my Panny OLED in general but actually superior during daytime in a bright room).
Do you know how this would compare to the Hisense 65Q8?
I don't have the 65Q8 myself so can't really comment. I thought it looked nice in store when I was originally looking at TVs but that doesn't mean a whole lot because the Good Guys had all those optimised vibrant colour images showing on it.
One thing I'll say is that it's not as good at upscaling FTA as the Panny OLED is. That said, any non-HD FTA will look crap regardless of what big 4K TV you put it on…
Sorry I can't help more.
You won the lottery
Confirming the same experience. Pulled the trigger during the last sale despite the warnings since it was an upper end of my budget anyway. Also I wanted HDMI 2.1 for my PS5. I do not see DSE or vertical banding. I did notice the invert ghosting effect when I was specifically looking for it after setting up the tv, but by now I forgot about it. I did have to wait for my tv for like 4 weeks, so might be a new batch.
Have you tried any gaming content at 120fps? If so, how did you find it with this panel?
Good price but after the 75" version
Put in my postcode (Melbourne) and it gives me the message that there's only one in stock, so looks like it's pretty much all gone.
Call JB sales 1300942765 see what they can do
Number is for good guys….?
Oops.. JB - 135244
I have this TV and have bad DSE and vertical banding, on the third screen now and it's just getting worse. Currently sorting it with Samsung for a fix.
Edit: Mine is the 55" model.
I have a 55 Q80T & could not be happier. No issues at all, maybe it is an issue between the 55 & 65 inch models.
I agree. I have the 55 Q80T and it’s great.
I've never heard the term DSE until today.
Wished I never Googled it. Some things are better off unknown.
I won't check if my current TV has it… once seen, can't be unseen.. lol
As always remember the AU version of the Q80T is worse than US/UK, no Ultra wide angle layer and much worse FALD with half the zones, don't be mislead by reviews.
For real? I had no idea!
This shits me beyond belief, shouldn't be legal to give them the same name.
Have the 75" Q80t and viewing angle is great, awesome TV
I just got it price match with Jb hifi for $1997 ($40 bucks more) while good guys refuse to do it. In VIC
Thanks OP, just ordered a Q80T from appliancesonline. Timing was perfect (well, not as perfect as getting it for $1739 but eh), was going to grab a Q70T for the same price from Videopro then saw this with free delivery and they will deliver it Saturday. DSE (had never heard of it before) does have be worried but my PS5 has been sitting unopened for 4 weeks now due to no 4K TV so we roll the dice and live in hope.
Good luck. However if you notice it in normal viewing conditions definitely return it.
Appliances Online is now $1957
