Not quite as good as the previous deal via eBay or the slightly more expensive Dell-Direct order deal, but the AUAFFILLIATES15% code still works, and a new code found via Honey brings it back to the same price as the early December codes.

Previous deals:
* $1779.20 - LiMaaa/eBay deal 27/11/20
* $1777.83 - 2/12/20
* $1816.07 - 3/12/20
* $1637.22 - 3/2/21 (eBay w/Plus)
* $1686.74 - 5/2/21 (Dell Direct)

Please do note that these monitors:
* Do often have long delivery lead times
* Have had some issues reported (Scratches on top-right of panel) and/or early failures. Dell replacement service is usually decent.
* Other 2021 Alienware models do not have an sRGB Clamp mode. We are still waiting for the HUB review of this particular model.
* We usually see best pricing deals early in the month.

If you have a Westpac credit card, you might have a $150 statement credit deal (spend over $1000) - this would work out to be a very good price

Happy to help anyone order for $1,627.83

    • I have a black altitude where’s the offer please….?

      • This

      • I have Qantas Altitude Platinum. I can see it in my app under "Rewards and Offers"

        • Thanks Op and Capt!

Ordered this now and expected delivery is March 1.

I dont think this will stack with Cashrewards 10% but i tried, then realised that they actually say Alienware is considered a separate brand with only 6% cashback.

Maybe a mute point given im using these codes, but it caught me out.

The "bargain" part of this site refers to lower prices on specific products compared to the usual price they go for

The "bargain" part of this site does not mean users should only post products that seem affordable to you

        • +5

Sheesh, I must have really nudged you into a pit of reality… Stay there for a bit, it'll help you out

            • +8

@mrau: Ah, yes, the perpetual argument for OzB: What constitutes a Bargain?

Some, like yourself, think a it's only a bargain if it's also cheap. Others, like the OP, think it's a bargain when it's less than the original price. Both have their merits, and both have holes in their viewpoints.

'Cheap' does not always equate to 'good value', because build quality may be compromised to meet a lower cost target and this can lead to early failure. Thus, you spend more money to replace it sooner, negating any original 'bargain' it started off as.

Conversely, a 'lower price' on a high-value item may mean it still ends up being outside the affordable range of many people. It may (but not always) be a higher quality, too, and last considerably longer, but not everyone will perceive it as a 'bargain' due to the high pricepoint.

Ultimately, it comes down to this: The Bargain is in the Eye of the Beholder

This means it's entirely up to you to decide if something is or isn't a bargain, and that's okay if your opinion differs from someone else. However, I personally believe that making denigrating comments or attacking someone in the comments simply because they have a different viewpoint doesn't add value to the community. Go ahead and explain why you agree/disagree, but keep it factual and provide alternatives and you'll be less likely to invite counteroffensives against you.

              @mrau: It's 31 negatives now :)

^ Plus, everyone who liked this thread

P.S. This deal isn't just "cheaper than RRP". It's a whole $500 cheaper, and additionally, it's direct from Dell AU

I didn't want to have to do this, but it seems like you're really stuck with that terrible opinion so here it goes…

Look at this deal (202 upvotes - 02/12/20)
              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/588100

You've been a member since 2018, so I would assume you'd have a decent understanding of how many upvotes a 'good' "bargain" would have. 202 upvotes is most certainly a clear sign of a good deal. This deal occurred ~ 3.5 months ago, and was priced at the exact same price (To the cent) as the deal we are discussing this issue on here.

After scrolling through the comments on this deal, it's obvious to see that users in the market for a professional monitor, appreciate this deal:

Thank you. Thank you. After missing out on the other one I was so sad.
Thanks, got one. I can't handle the anxiety and disappointment of the previous ebay sales again. Cheaper aswell.
              Thanks, ordered one.
              Thanks, got one too!

You complain about the negatives on your comment, but this isn't Reddit… You don't lose anything by receiving negs. You only receive a reality check. A hit in the face to show that, quite simply… you're wrong

            • +2

@mrau: A car is far more costly than a pair of shoes, but if you live 100KM from work - you aren't walking.

You just don't seem to be aware that there are reasons (entertainment, professional, hell even professional entertainment) that people would need a costly monitor.

Cost is objective, value is subjective.

Also you upvoted this deal for a $2279 iPhone marked down to $1579 - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/605348 (which is a good example of a bargain).
Curious what your rationale is here - given there are plenty of phones available that do 99% of the job for a quarter of the discounted price.

                • +1

@mrau: Then don't buy it and don't make negative comments about it. You are accusing others of being childish when one of your reply says 'Lol, that's your answer? Try again.' Grow up and reflect on yourself a little you manchild

                • +2

@mrau: I'm going to gloss over the first part of that as I'm chalking that up to wrong side of the bed?

The simple fact is that a monitor of this size and quality is not a bargain at this price.

Do you have an example of a monitor of this size and quality at a bargain price? Or an example of what this monitor's price must be to quality as a bargain?

  • -1

I have this monitor and I regret it, dual monitor is just way more useful

    • Can’t you split screen on the large ones too though? I have duel monitor and feel like going for ultra wide might be a mistake too

      • +3

then the 2 windows are small, you want a 49" for that imo

      • I have this morntor also, Use it for work and gaming without issues.

One problem is it isnt cfompatible with Dell display manager and im not sure there are plans for it to be.

Dell display manager allows you to split the screen so windows sees it as two actual monitors.

In this case you can only lock windows to each side which works most things.

        • Just use divvy, it’s free

    • You only have one…

    • +4

I disagree. Came from 2 x 27" to this one and I find it way better. Snapping windows gives you two huge work areas, or if you want to customise, just download PowerToys and set it up the way you want there.

    • Are you seriously jk?

    • +2

      Just buy another one.

    • I agree, It is much more flexible with 2 screens. I have 3 x 27" setup coming from a 34" monitor previously. I now able to play game on one full screen while easily check info on the other screens.

    • Get 2 of these ? :) I used to run 2 x 30", now back to 1 x 27" and thinking of something like this and then the 27" as a portrait monitor on the side.

    • +2

This was my immediate experience going from a dual setup to a single, larger monitor setup. However I quickly changed my mind after installing PowerToys which allows you to set up custom snapping. After a day I vastly prefered the single monitor setup! Hopefully this can help you out :)

    • Your sentiment is for all ultrawides, and not just for this particular monitor. 21:9 is good because you have 1 monitor for an immersive gaming experience as well as options for productivity. I prefer that to having 2 separate monitors. So… I don't regret having an ultrawide at all.

    no love for Keanu?…Sad Keanu

  • Anyone got theirs from the previous deal please let us know here if you: love, hate, recommend and reviews? Thank you.

    • +1

I got mine from the previous deal. Love it! Delivery was only a few weeks. Going from 60Hz to 120Hz has been great. Racing sims now very immersive. I've gone from 3x screens to this so overall screen real estate has reduced, but I'm dealing with it OK (#firstworldproblems)

    • +1

Great monitor. The nicest IPS I have personally used. Has great control on bleed & glow.

Came from a 34" Xiaomi which comparatively felt very slow even at the same 144hz refresh - I don't know if that was from input lag, ghosting, or what. Only thing I miss is the fantastic blacks on a VA panel.

Took about 2 business days from time of order to arrive as well, so very quick.

Excellent monitor, no issues with. It's massive.

    • I use it 10-14 hours a day for work and gaming. Came from a 2x 1440p 27" to this, super immerse gaming, specifically 3rd person games like Valheim looks great with ultra wide & HDR. Great for productivity as well. Only gripe I have is wallpaper engine doesn't have wallpapers in this resolution, you gave to go for thr 4k ones and top bottom cropped out. HDR while amazing in games it does strange things in desktop like using snipping tool your images will look over exposed for some reason, with DLSS only works on 16:9 ratio and not ultra wide so hard to recommend if RTX on is important to you. I'm sure nvidia could easily fix this in the future though. And make sure you delete Alienware command centre, it auto downloaded and I can't justify it using 10% CPU usage just to control ambient lights. Make sure you have a big desk as the footprint is huge. Otherwise no regrets. Absolutely amazing value for what you get.

    • I really like it…. I regret nothing. Nothing to hate

    • Great monitor, Got two for the wife and I, Its so bright it feels like daytime when both monitors are on white images at night. So play around with the settings to what suits. Dont use alienware command center though its rubbish software that sits at over 10% CPU usage for no reason on a Ryzen 3600

Cant fault the monitors at this stage and its really the Dell software that lets it down including not having support for Dell Display Manager.

  • Damn I bought my LG 34GN850 already like 6 months ago but prices have never dropped because of lack of availability :/

For only $200 more a 38" would have been much better!

  • 38 inch 3840x1600 is perfect for me - enough for a terminal, chat, browser and code at the same time (using PowerToys). I have the ultrasharp version. Used to have 3x24 16:10 monitors (ultrasharp as well).

Would've liked the high refresh rate of this one, but not for $600 - it's expensive enough as is.

  • Odyssey G9 difference?

    • -1

      Aspect - G9 is 21:9 right?

    • +1

      Basically everything? This is a 38" 144Hz IPS ultrawide (21:9) with a resolution of 3840 x 1600 and a 2300R curve. The G9 is a 49" 240Hz VA super-ultrawide (32:9) with a resolution of 5120x1440 and a 1000R curve - it also costs about $1000 more.

  • Just a quick heads up!

Listing refresh rates are incorrect in this listing, the Dell site states 85 Hz via HDMI and 144 Hz via DP.

Best to double check for those who have bought or are considering buying.

    • From rtings:
Note that Dell Canada's website advertises a 120Hz max refresh rate over HDMI, while Dell USA's website doesn't make any mention of the max refresh rate over HDMI. However, we were able to reach a max of 85Hz at its native resolution over HDMI, and the only way to increase the refresh rate to 120Hz is by lowering the resolution.

      • Thanks for the clarification on that one leech 👍

  • what about this vs g7 - 32 inch
I wanted to get this one but opted for g7 and I love it
wonder if 38Inch would be too much as I just about got used to 32 inch
240 hz vs 120 was the selling point in the end
picture quality on Samsung is amazing vs my old IPS - so don't think this one would be better but wonder is anyone had both and can comment

    • Sorry for the unrelated reply but I was seriously considering a G7 32" until I saw how many people seem to be having issues with certain colours or images triggering scanlines on both sizes of G7.

If you can spare a moment, I would love to know how your G7 behaves when viewing the ASUS ROG Wallpapers page and also how recent your unit is?

      • +1

i got the unit a month ago and it was already updated with newest firmware so I don't think its in the old batch that had lots of issues
there are 0 issues on myn BUT - I do have small….very small flicker on certain locations in Rainbow six (game if you don't know) - all other games are fine
this was much worse when I had a 1080ti attached to it - I have since upgraded to 6800 xt hence I went with 32 inch etc

I really love the unit and would def recommend it if you have hardware to run it at 240 hz

        • Good to hear, might give it another look then. Many thanks for the reply 👍

  • +1

What does current owners think about the HDR on this? I've seen the rtings review but just curious to hear about first-hand experiences from the community.

  • +3

Just thought I'll put my experience.
Purchased on the last eBay deal. Received it around 10th Feb.
It was fine all around, until I started playing with HDR and its Variable Backlight mode.

Mine had the issue where, turning either on, the left side of screen will flicker when you have a dark background and it tries to render something bright like a moving cursor. (I started seeing this when I was playing games that force 16:9/10 aspects ratio. Left would flicker, right is fine)

Tried all different config, g-sync, fps, hdmi/dp, different pc, all same result.

Things got worse as I tried HDMI again, and this time, simply turning on Variable Backlight, the whole screen is flickering constantly. And turning off Variable Backlight didn't fix it now. It even burnt in some screen content… though leaving it off for a while fixed that.

So now both HDMI output flickers constantly (even on alienware eco-signal screen). DP is still fine, just the same left side flicker when HDR is on.

Contacted support, initially they'll replace with refurbished, which I thought is stupid, given how new this monitor is and how recent I got it for. But the reason was, new stock will take a while. So now I'm waiting on an approval and ETA to get the monitor replaced…..

Makes me wonder why this thing is constantly on discount now….

(If you want to test yours out. The most consistent way to reproduce is turn HDR on, goto www.eizo.be/monitor-test and tick only response time, then watch if screen flickers when the bar is moving on different background colours)

    • Wow. Considering how much this cost, you must be shattered…

I'll let myself out now :)

      • +1

        LOL

I was somewhat disappointed when I notice the issue, but coming from a budget Korean monitor (those 1440p with ability to oc back in 2013ish), the build quality is a pretty big jump. Wish I could say the same about the panel… budget Korean monitor was rock solid with zero dead pixel till this day =p

    • +1

update: ETA new monitor, 22nd March.

      Well, shit.

    • How bad is your flicker? I got the monitor delivered yesterday and ran through this test. I see a very slight flicker when I run through that test. It's subtle but definitely noticeable and is more pronounced on the left side.

However, to me it looks like my issue is simply an artefact of the edge-lit local dimming used by the monitor (auto-enabled in HDR mode). It's very noticeable if I I move my mouse pointer across the screen with a pure black background. e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RycgCidVtqs

I'm not suggesting yours is the same; just reporting what I found.

      • Interesting, mine is very prominent on the left side and not noticeable on the right at all. But the effect is very similar to the video you've linked.

Damn now I'm torned whether I should just get a refund instead…. I have also seen others having similar issues on reddit/hardforum etc

The flickering is really awful when gaming which I would assume is predominantly what HDR would be used for too. Ugh…

Edit: I jst tried testing it with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYtvehF9-Z8, and yea, I do see the right sight with slight flickering now, though it's very uneven. The left is very prominent while the right is subtle with bottom right barely noticible.

  • Fwiw I rang Dell during the previous sale, haggled a bit and got it for $1570 delivered in 4 days. It’s brilliant- coming from a 21:9 34” and a 43” super ultra wide, I’ll take this taller aspect ratio every day of the week. Amazing monitor. I use Divvy for window management, it’s the best window tool I’ve tried.

  • Have a Predator X34P, wanting to upgrade to an ultra-wide curved model with HDR - this fits the bill. Can anybody chime in with perceivable differences? Should I consider this or wait for sales on other options?

    • +1

You do not buy these for HDR. If you want HDR then go get a FALD display like the X35.

      • True, but FALD pushes the price out to OLED TV territory. I'm mainly considering this mainly as a middle-ground option I guess.

Speaking of OLED - if LG can make an ultrawide curved OLED monitor I'm sold.

  • +2

Ordered yesterday and arrived today! THAT WAS FAST!

    • Whats your impressions?. Tempted to pick up myself for work / gaming

  • Anyone else buy recently for gaming / WFH? What's your impression? Tempted to pull trigger

    • I owned the predecessor (the AW3418DW) for about three years and loved it to pieces for work and gaming. Just a really, really nice monitor. This is a little more expensive now (I believe it was mine was $2000 RRP that I got for $1500) but would still be worth it IMO. The only reason I don't still have it is because it was smashed by an act-of-god :'(

    • It’s now 1568 but only until midnight. Let’s buy 1 each together?
