Did we really need 3 posts for iphone 11 from jb hifi?

    • -1

      All different models ;-)

      • +2

        …your point? :p

  • +4

omg which JB Hi-Fi iPhone 11 deal to vote for?

    • Vote for all of them

      • +1

Que the Old El Paso ad musical jingle…

  • Not very tech literate - is the IPhone 11 worth getting given it doesn’t have 5G?

    • +22

IMO 5g is still very much in its infancy - limited coverage, no mmWave in Australia yet (the fastest 5g standard currently, I don't think any phones sold here even have that capability) and battery draining. Better to use 4g for the next couple of years and wait for faster and more efficient 5g network and modems.

      • +2

This is the reason In chose the 11 over the 12. Paying for tech that is not needed quite yet

      • -2

Yes $1500 for a superseded tech, 4G, is deal-breaker. 5G coverage is expanding quickly. No battery life issue when the modem is integrated. Also, phone performance in terms of loading apps depends a lot on connectivity speed.

      • Definitely can’t agree, very surprised by the speed and low latency I get on 5g, blindingly fast and no issues with battery

      • I know its very hard to predict, but how long do you reckon before 5G becomes the standard? I was going to update my phone in either late 2023 or early 2024 when I'm finally done with phones and was just gonna splurge out and get the best phone there is. Wonder if 5G would have improved by then in Oz, particularly rural where I am

        • 2-3 years

          • @itsme56: Now for me

          • +1

@itsme56: to be honest, considering how shit Australia is with technology normally, I would've thought more than that.

            • @Pornboy69er: IMO mmWave will not take off, it’s gimmicky, needs line of sight. Standard 5G will just end up being as prominent as 4G in 3 years. (everywhere you get 4G, you’ll get “5G”).

    • +1

I don’t think not having 5g is currently a dealbreaker. But others can correct me if I’m wrong

      • +2

I have 5G S20FE and haven't noticed any improvements in my life with 5G on.
It actually drains my battery so I turn 5G of

I get solid 100 to 200mbps on 4G in my daily commute around Melb

    • +1

Depend on how you use your phone. If you are keen on using 5g and doesn't plan on buying new phones for a few years, yeah you should probably get the newer ones with 5g. But if you don't really care much about 5g and other tech stuff and you have money laying around go for it.

    • +1

even if you get a 5G phone, you will need to make sure 5G covers your area of travel and your phone plan supports it.

      • What, because you can’t drop back to 4g??

        • no, its not that but if you are spending extra for 4G, its best to be aware of the conditions.

          • @yummycoot: I've been impressed by the amount of 5g already rolled out - Telstra. I commute an hour from my home to a major city and have 5g at work and home. Heading up the coast there were plenty of times kids would say, hey Dad look more 5g. It was not uncommon at all.

    • +2

You will also need a 5G plan like ones from Telstra.
Boost and Catch (which often goes on sale) doesn’t have 5G.

    • I’d definitely go with a 5G phone if you live within 20km of a cbd. The difference between 4g and 5G, to me, feels like the difference between ADSL and dial up. My 5G is often faster than my NBN FTTC (100mbps+). Depends on what you use your phone for and where you live I guess. It’s great having anything instantly load. I have a 12 pro max and my battery lasts fine. Eg 2 days and nights normal use without charge before dying. Definitely check the cell tower maps for the major carriers though. I live within 2kms of melbourne cbd but I’m in an Optus black out spot (literally just me and the neighbour) so I’m with Telstra.

  • Might as well pay a lil more and get the 12pro.

    • +3

Where can I get the 12 pro with same specs for say $50-100 more?

      • -5

        12pro max 128gb is $1769 at ozmob.

      • +3

12 pro and max cameras are significantly better

        • They're not sorry. I had an 11 and 12 PM and they're hardly different. Significant my backside

    • Said no sane OZB ever.

  • +5

This is the battery king so I highly recommend it. 12Pro is slightly worse battery, has the annoying magnet at the back, and so on. Still a great phone, but I prefer the 11 Pro series. I have the 11 Pro non-max and it's fantastic.

    • -1

annoying magnet lol, you don't have to use it, modem is not as good as 12 series, worth it alone.

      • +1

I've heard that it just picks up random things because the magnet ring is so strong, could be wrong though

        • haha

        • +5

Yeah you go into the kitchen and whoosh, all your cutlery drawers are emptied out.

        • I had not heard that but had a good chuckle thinking about it after reading your comment

  • +1

Does it come with accessories or just the cable?

    • +2

From Apple it looks like the below is included:

      In the Box
      iPhone with iOS 13
      EarPods with Lightning Connector
      USB-C to Lightning Cable
      18W USB-C Power Adapter
      Documentation

      • -6

I think he is just messing around. Given the news about what's in the box for many weeks I am sure everyone knows it doesn't come with a charging cube.

    • +3

Apple stopped selling new iPhone 11 Pro Max for a while now. Therefore, these are old stock so they did not get the "better for environment" treatment.
The included 18W USB-C charger is much better than the 5W one.

    • +8

Isn't that the whole point of a company? "To extract as much money out of your pocket as possible"? Are you stupid in the head?

      • +1

How good is buying a phone without expandable memory, who then charge you overs for cloud storage, who de-rate their phones then lie and say it is to prolong the device……. Then offer a free battery replacement onto to turn down customers for mythical bent phones.

Apple fanboiz will always be fanboiz. They call it the Stockholm Syndrome I believe.

    • +6

Android - made by google - all they want is your data, and they charge you for products… Yea they are better… totally…

      • Lemon star? No sense blabber mouths who don’t learn and should at least acknowledge they are wrong XD glad people give the two evils when people think one is better over the other

      • -1

You think apple seriously is much better than Google? Check out some Rob Braxman tech videos and be surprised.. stop drinking the kool aid

        • They are better, they are both evil companies though. No cool aid required, one is is slightly more transparent than the other. One is a ecosystem driven by sales and the other is an advertising company purely focused on getting as much metadata from as possible.

          • -1

@onlinepred: I doubt Apple cares about your privacy honestly

            • -1

@Exec-Matrix: It care about the appearance that they care about my privacy.

              • @onlinepred: Right.. so you do drink the Apple kool aid because they cArE..

                • @Exec-Matrix: I'm brand agnostic. Got Android and iOS. How about you

                  • @onlinepred: Yeah same, have a note 10 plus and 12 Pro Max. Happy to call either out when need be such as apple pretending to care about youe privacy when they really don't give a crap.

                    • @Exec-Matrix: Well on a scale, Google is the absolute worst and least caring, somewhere on the scale is Apple, but they are by no means equal at this stage. If Apple decides to transition to advertising instead of software and products then perhaps.

    • +2

I’m still waiting for the Salvation Army to release their smart phones :)

    • IMO Google are far less ethical than Apple these days. You can also avoid both and install LineageOS, which is Android de-Googlified.

The issue is still that many of the Android phone manufacturers Will try to "extract as much money out of your pocket as possible" in what I feel is a much less ethical way than Apple (and I've been on Android/LineageOS since Windows phones were killed off).

I keep being seriously tempted to move to iPhone, though no Myki mobile is a deal breaker for me.

      • -1

"The issue is still that many of the Android phone manufacturers Will try to "extract as much money out of your pocket as possible" in what I feel is a much less ethical way than Apple"

I don't think anyone can take you seriously with this comment..

        • If you read my comment properly, you would see that I use Android hardware (though with LineageOS as the operating system) and have no plans to change to an iPhone unless/until I can use it as a Myki (Vic Public Transport card). The last iPhone I had was over a decade ago. I also use Android (WearOS on a Fossil). I've also run Android for a number of years on my phones prior to discovering LineageOS. I also used Macs and PCs. I've previously used Tizen (Samsung Galaxy Wear) as well.

I'm fairly unbiased in my opinions and am not a fanboi/fangirl of any current OS or manufacturer and have found some Android manufacturers less ethical than Apple (Samsung in particular from 4 devices owned, Motorola to a lesser extent due to selling a device and indicating it would get OS upgrades until at least Android 9, then reneging on that).

As such, yes I think people can take me seriously over someone who clearly has a grudge against Apple.

Now, do you also use the iPhone in the deal? If not I refer you back to your previous comments on another thread "Makes me laugh when people who don't own the device pass comment from what they read. […] Most people repeat what they hear and use excessive language."

    • +2

Yes because your preferred Android vendor is so holier than thou; why do people post such stupid drivel.

  • -1

I still prefer 11 pro max, feels much better

  • -3

ordered it, but just realize 11 is not the latest, cancelled it straight away. Good price, but I prefer the latest model.

    • +25

where have you been in the last 6 months?

      • It's the RRP. At that RRP, most people's initial reaction would be that's the latest.

        • +2

You mean where it says it was over 2200 and now it's under 1600?

          • @smartazz104: Well, it is kinda a sneaky move from JB. Apple stops selling this when iPhone 12 is out so its RRP remained the same (as when it was still the flagship).

I did have to google a little bit to realise the reason the RRP is still crazy high for this is because Apple stopped selling it when 12 is out.

  • -3

4 gb of Ram.. Here i am looking at buying at 12 gb phone and knowing its over kill. but 4gb is not enough for the price..

    • +12

iPhones with 4GB ram can still run as smooth as an Android with 12GB ram. iPhones are well optimised

      • +1

Not about running smooth. My iphone 12 always needs to reload apps or browser tabs whereas my Android with 12gb doesn't.

The lack of ram is purely apple getting as much profit as possible. Not about IOS being magically more efficient.

        • +1

my 12 pro max doesn’t do this and I believe it has 6GB of ram. never experienced any issues with reloading

          • +2

@skido: I use a app called studio ninja to manage my business.

On my samsung android, it literally stays in ram for days.

On my iphone 12, it regularly has to reload.

            Same for many safari tabs.

Apple fan boys, downvote all you want. it's the truth.

Apple profit margins are the aim.

    • -6

Does that 12GB RAM phone have 512GB internal storage? How about the CPU? Is it 3X faster than Apple A13?

If I add more RAM to my old i3, will it beat my Ryzen 3700x?

    • -1

      Android needs it, not apple.

  • +3

My partner has this phone as an upgrade from 6s. A bloody good one, screen is brilliant, battery lasts her 3 days (she doesn’t play game but watches streaming). The only down point that it’s quite heavy for long use, but we have small hands. Should not be an issue if you are used to holding tablet/gigantic phone.

    • 3 days?? That seems incredible. Lucky to get half a day on my iPhone 8!

  • +1

So, yesterday, we got ipad on discount, then today iphone, I guess the new gen is coming soon?

  • +4

Can someone tell me how they justify the cost of this phone?

Is it really worth 5x POCO X3 NFC's?

    Or even an older iphone?

    • +2

That's why I haven't upgraded from my 6sPlus. I had Apple install a new battery and speaker, and it works just like new. I stream on it and have never had an issue.

I can't justify the ridiculous pricing these days for phones.

      $2k for a phone? Never.

    • Know what you mean. I want to hit buy, but I'm quite happy with the Pixel 3 I got from Amazon for $360 earlier this week to replace my XS with dying battery.

      • Wow I replaced my pixel 5 with an iPhone XS hahahaha. Leagues better. Albeit was only to try iOS, of which I’ll buy a new iPhone soon I guess.

        • Bet the XS cost more than $360 if it was new LOL. I will get the battery in the XS replaced down the track. Need some software on it for WFM. Not sure what this iOS / Android thing is the apps are the same on both. Mind you I wish I could get Apple Mail app on Android.

          • @mostlygordon: Yea was $500 with 84% battery health. Is crazy how great these phones are. I think I could even just replace the battery and last another 2 years. Could never do that with an android phone. I just can’t get over how much faster and smoother it is compared to the pixel 5.

            • @onlinepred: Whoa, so a refurb. My Pixel 3 was $360 brand new sealed from Amazon with 100% battery and two year warranty. Mind you the price is at $391 ATM. I don't notice any performance difference to the XS, but my iPhone is probably getting throttled with 59% battery.

              • @mostlygordon: Oh man kudos to you haha pixel 3 was one of the worst phones I ever owned. Has the worse battery life of all my xl pixels, and the worse performance somehow. It killed my apps constantly with its terrible ram management and low ram. If you don’t do much on your phone or a non issue. Still impressed you done it faster than the xs.

                • @onlinepred: I liked the Pixel 3, but a bit small. So have upgraded to a Pixel 4 XL now:) $570 brand new, Mrs can have the 3. Looking at speed tests, it seems about the same as iPhone 11 e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5NZY1Z4PPY

I don't think it matters what we use, a new phone feels fast, one screwed around with for a while, not so much. I run some tests on two Galaxy S6, an old one of mine, and factory rest the old Mrs unit. Night and day performance, and the factory rest unit even runs cooler!

                  • @mostlygordon: The real test is load websites. I’m a web dev and we test load times on various devices regularly. An iPhone 8 loads websites faster by a factor of about 4 compared to an s20 and pixel 5. Even just loading the Amazon site. Is crazy man. Chrome and android is just so inefficient. Like I said, my tester xs is so much smoother and faster with web loads times and app memory recovery. I’ll hang out for the iPhone 13.

Your pixel 3 will only get updates until November this year btw.

                    • @onlinepred: Not sure if you watched the vids of the Pixel 4 matching the iPhone 11 loading Web sites. In any case, I use Feedly, Audible, Pocket Casts, Mail, Web, I don't notice any difference between the iPhone XS and the Pixels. I will get the battery changed in the XS when I go back to the office, but I will probably keep using the Pixel 4 XL for my daily driver, 90Hz display is sweet:)

                      • @mostlygordon: Yea most of those apps don’t require much cpu. Only browser. Yea the video didn’t open complex sites, so was a bit of a waste. Simply sites load very fast, about 1 second on the iPhone 8 and about 1.5 on the pixel 5.

                        Try this page https://materialdemo.blazorise.com/

Let me know how many seconds you’re p4 takes. Start timing from the second you tap the link.

                        https://youtu.be/uDmAaoavolk
That video shows how terrible pixel 4 is at ram management

                        • @onlinepred: Link seemed to be a little under 4 seconds. Anyway, the vid I sent is pretty much how I use a phone, so pretty relevant for me, i.e. I'm not missing the iPhone especially given the P4s smooth scrolling.

                          • @mostlygordon: Yea crazy it’s 2.5 seconds on my xs haha. Just insane the optimisation. Pixel 5 is 15 seconds. I switch tabs and apps constantly so pixels don’t suit at all.

  • +1

Just so you know guys, iPhone 11 utilize Intel as their modem chip. The new iPhone 12 uses Qualcomm modem chip. In my personal experience, I reckoned the Qualcomm chip perform superior than Intel, if speeds matter.

    • -1

      Lol

    • +1

You may be right about that, but I have a 12 Pro Max and the modem is significantly worse than the one in the Snapdragon 845 that's in my old Oneplus 6. I get semi regular data dropouts in places the Oneplus was fine, and the call quality is pretty bad as well. Returned for a new one but it performs the same. I'm fairly disappointed to be honest, it's my first iPhone ever after 11 years of Android and to pay so much money for a product that has such a serious functionality shortcoming is not what I expected, especially after years of owning iPad's that have performed flawlessly.
